In my last video, Flo has just left China and returned to Switzerland where he lives. In this video I am joining him on an adventure in the Swiss Alps. Switzerland is famous for its cheese, raclette, wine, fondue... and many other delicious things, so I decided to visit a small local Swiss Artisan Cheese manufacturer in the heart of the Alps of the French part of Switzerland.
Join me on this adventure in the beautiful heart of the Swiss Alps :)

WHAT language barrier?! Yan, if anything, you've proven how many more languages you are proficient in than any of your viewers. Thank you for another amazing experience!
@Kenny-yl9pc
@Kenny-yl9pc 7 ай бұрын
Don't say "any of your viewers", there are many people, especially in Europe, who speak many languages. For example, I speak 3 languages fluently and 1 (French) barely, which is kind of embarrassing since I had French for almost 4 to 5 years in school. But in Western Europe we learn different languages from an early age. Most people speak at least 2 languages. Depending on their efforts and I guess talent, they will speak 1 language fluently and at least 1 other language at a basic level where they can communicate with a tourist for example. In most schools they offer various elective subjects therefore you can choose different languages depending on what you prefer to learn, from French, Spanish to latin among many others, and English is mandatory. That is why most Western European people are proficient in more than 1 language.

@@Kenny-yl9pc Right, so you speak the languages you grew up with and were required to learn in school. Good job. Meanwhile, Yan is out here learning languages completely unrelated to her native tongue and using them to make informative and entertaining videos, while working through any language barriers on the fly. She's awesome.
@Kenny-yl9pc

What?! I speak German, Japanese, English fluently and a lil bit of French that I remember from school. I don't speak those three languages fluently because of my school. If that were the case, I would be fluent in French by now. No, it takes effort and you have to put in work, that's how you learn. Those languages aren't related to each other. They are very different. But even if they were related, that doesn't change anything, that doesn't take anything away from the work and effort that I put into learning them. I think she learned the languages the same way I did. Maybe you don't know what you are talking about, because you speak only one language and never bothered to learn more languages. The example I gave you of the school system in Europe was a way to explain to you why most people here speak more than one language even if it's on a basic level. I mean her German and French is pretty basic, it's far from fluent. So don't put her on a pedestal when you don't know much of the language and when you don't have the means to evaluate it. @@AllUpOns

Due to big corporates enterprises, telling it unsanitary productions and such. I am Swiss living in Lausanne and I watch your wonderful videos about China. The french speaking population of Switzerland learns German in School, but nobody likes the subject so the level of our German is quite low. You can see this with some of the cheesemakers as they are switching between German and English (with some french in between). Quite often, when French speaking and German speaking Swiss people meet, we speak English 😅

sad bunch ...not treasuring your multi linguistic culture is a big mistake ... speak English when you are outside your own country ( if you are not able to communicate in the language of the country you are visiting ). When you are at home speak French,German & Italian...show some pride .
@realdrivercom
@realdrivercom 7 ай бұрын
@@joeie5979 Are you treating Swiss French people as a sad bunch because of a remark made by a single person? Anyways here is a bit more information concerning languages in Switzerland. German is one of the 4 official languages of Switzerland (the others are french, Italian and romanche). Swiss German people actually speak specific dialects of German. There are at least 7 dialects and some are so different to the others that people from one region will not understand people from other regions. A German or Austrian will not understand these dialects. So when a french Swiss person (even if he speaks perfect German) speaks to a Swiss German person, he isn't actually speaking to that person in their mother tongue. He is speaking to them in the "official" language. On the other hand, the french spoken by Swiss people is just french with specific accents and there are no dialects. All of this in a country of only 8 million people.

This video was so fun to watch because I can speak English and Chinese and somewhat understand French. Normally in your videos I like to follow subtitles and compare the Chinese and English sentences to better my Chinese level. But this time when they speak French I had three languages trying to enter my brain at the same time haha. And as a Turkish seeing that they are eating homemade yoghurt in the Alps was the cherry on the top. That yoghurt has the same texture as the traditional homemade yoghurt(not the sweet ones sold in supermarkets) in Turkiye.

I spent a month in Switzerland in 1992, I stayed in a small town Sierre, Valais Canton, they are French-speaking. I was mesmerized by the beauty, the care with Nature, etc. Switzerland is another planet. I stayed in the house of a Brazilian girl who lived there and I was working ("in the black") with her picking up grapes. Good pay. A Swiss friend who lived in Sierre went up the mountains to work making the "Appenzeller" cheese like the ones we see here. He would spend 3 months in a high plateau and would get 9,000 Swiss Francs. Food and shelter were provided also. But these great summer cheese-making jobs are offered only to young Swiss people. In the valley, where I was there was just grape picking for us, foreigners. The Brazilian girl I stayed with had a cute 6 y.o. son with her rich Swiss "friend with benefits¨. We had a ¨fling", she fell in love and wanted to have a son with me, and I, being an idiot, I disagreed, lol. I regret it now, maybe I'd be legally living in that quiet and stunningly beautiful region. Switzerland is NEVER on the news headlines... because there are zero problems there, right?

A very well made video, I always love watching your videos. I’ll let you in on a secret though, the cute little stalls for the calves are actually for males( they aren’t milk makers) so keeping them in a confined space keeps their muscles under used, so they stay nice and pink and eventually they are turned into veal…perfect for schnitzels. Farming is always practical.

Really interesting. Cheese is being made all over Europe. Every country has it's own cheeses. It would be interesting to find out how that is in China. Allthough there might be some lactose intollerance in eastern countries, that shouldn't be the case for cheese. It would be really interesting to learn about what a Chinese person would do with cheese.
