I have been carrying a Classic for a few years now, here in the UK and, although it is small, it lives on my car keyring, and the amount of times it comes in very handy is amazing! So much in fact, that i have bought them as presents for my wife, her father, and her brother, who all now cannot be without them! 😊

Totally agree, everyone who doesn't carry a larger SAK should carry a Classic...or other 58mm SAK. Or even larger model plus a Classic which I sometimes too e.g. Hiker or Farmer and Classic.

I have owned a few of the classics, plus my dad has owned a few versions of they camping ones. He kept them in his tackle box, hunting bag, truck, pocket. Plus we had a few off brand ones that he didn't care if they got damaged. We lived outside a lot when I was a kid so we used our stuff frequently and you can't beat that quality. My dad a d I were in a real survival situation once when a storm forced us off a mountain we were on and we had to survive for 46 hours in the woods overnight with nothing but our swiss army knives, and a backpack full of survival stuff my dad always had on him. Pouring rain and flooding all around us, we built a shelter, harvested wood to make a small fire that we had to dig out of a cave plus we caught fish by making spears. We truly tested our gear and luckily it didn't fail. When the rain let up and we could get back to our vehicle and leave it turned into a great memory. But not having that tools, woukd habe been bad.

Back in 1978 my dad gave me a victorinox SD classic keychain knife.. it was so useful that I have had one on every keychain ever since.. what gets the most use is the scissors the screwdriver tip that's on the end of the fingernail file it can tighten Phillips head in a pinch also! The tweezers get a lot of use and sometimes the toothpick... I am fortunate to live within 15 minutes of the Swiss army headquarters where they have a warehouse sale twice a year.. I have gotten victorinox SD classic keychain knives for as low as $8 with an advertisement on them.. I have gotten real good deals on other victorinox knives there also..

@@KitbashedSurvivalluckily it didn't come with any marlboro branding either, I hate when companies do that. They had them as a reward for 10,000 points or so when I redeemed it but they quickly shot up to 15,000 points. Most likely due to popularity. Again, didnt have the red scales but they had a black & white topography style design. Great video btw, always nice to see your content.

Another thing that I would like to add in favor of the real Swiss army knife, is that I've found that if you have a nice tool, that works well and that you trust, you actually will use it more. So it's worth spending the extra money because it will actually be a tool that sees use as opposed to something that clusters your pocket.

Great video. Love Victorinox products. The classic belongs to a category of pocket knife called a Gentleman's pocket knife. It was designed to be used for grooming one's self and for opening the occasional parcel package. Today, it is still considered to be the best personal use knife for the price. This pocket knife won't build a shelter but it will manage to give you years of use. Also I hope to see more videos from you soon.

Eric, have you thought about a sardine can home build? Not just one can....use a p-38 can opener to totally remove the can sharp edges and then pack your kit into TWO of them. Twice the room but still pocket sized. Seal them together with tape. I once used some chilli cans that I found were identical to Walmart roast beef cans but larger. The roast beef cans were 10oz each and the chilli 15oz. Packed and then sealed with tape. Made up nine of them for family one year. I'd show you the double sardine can but I think it was in my last vehicle. Mine was primed and sprayed international orange and had a simple orange webbing harness with a belt loop.

I was under in impression that swisstech is its own company making It's own stuff. Not exactly cloning but also not reinventing the wheel. Obviously the swiss army knife has been around for generations and has always had great quality. But over the past year or so I've seen many channel's that only speak on this kinda stuff. And they have been mentioning how the swiss army knife brand just hasn't been putting much effort into making newer stuff with say maybe better steel options or tools assortment options etc. But see for me a knock off is something that is exactly the same with branding and all. And from all I've seen come out of this swisstech company they are adding thing's like the G10 etc. I don't own any swisstech stuff just going off what I've seen from channel's that focus primarily on knives and multitool stuff. Like china is known for making something like the Leatherman wave but in a different name but virtually the same tool at a quarter of the price. I have even seen some china made multitools with quality steel and overall better engineering then some name brand stuff. I don't support clones and that's just my point here is i don't think swisstech is exactly doing that. They just aren't reinventing what we all know work's just adding little thing's that are different then the traditional plastic scales like the swiss army knife.
@simonh6371
@simonh6371 Ай бұрын
I agree that this isn't a Vic knockoff, there are Vic knockoffs which have exactly the same shape and colour scales, with a different emblem on, but this doesn't really look like a Vic so I don't see it as a knockoff. I keep seeing comments/opinions that Vic should up their game regarding blade steel especially. I don't remember which yt channel it was on but a few weeks back I saw a vid of a guy who had tried a number of pricey folders with better steel and larger blades but in the end he came to the realisation that in fact for all the cutting tasks he did, the Vic actually performed better. Because blade geometry and grind are also major factors in cutting ability. So he went back to carrying SAKs.

😂 checking "blade play" and it sure looked like you dang near bent that tinfoil blade on the Victoronix .... I have never understood people and the love they have for that brand... Crap plastic slippery handles. Crap blade steel. Useless tweezers. And unless you can floss with a shoe lace that toothpick is useless.

To each his own. If ever agreed on everything the world would be a pretty boring place. 👍
