A great and informative video. Yes, Switzerland can be pricy but one of the ways we have solved that issue is to go half board at the hotel (yes, you might miss some restaurants) - but the food in the hotels is usually excellent and quite traditional Swiss. This means you just need to get lunch and we often got that from the supermarket. Also, as you guys have said, train / transport passes are a must. Local tourist cards often give you 50% off the local pool as well so great for kids (and big kids like me!)

Great video!🙂 Advice from a Swiss: If you don't have a big budget but you really want to visit Switzerland, don't go to tourist areas & bigger cities. Avoid Zürich!😉 There are many beautiful & affordable places in Switzerland, you just have to do good research & look for good deals to save some money. Look up every canton & city or ask locals & people who have been to Switzerland because the prices are very different. You have to think everything through & plan your journey very well before you visit to have a great experience even with a low budget. Greetings!🇨🇭😊

You have fantastic advice! And we completely agree. We’ve been to almost every canton, and some of the less touristy ones have been our favorites because they’re more affordable and authentic in many ways. Plus the Swiss are super friendly people - like you! Thanks for sharing your experiences and tips with us!! We’re all ears if you have more wisdom to share 🙂

@[J4M1E] very much agreed!! I'm 19 and have wanted to travel abroad for 10 years. It hasn't happened yet but I'm planning a big trip to Europe next year. The reason I want to travel is to meet people and experience the local culture, especially in the countryside and small villages since I grew up on a farm in the USA. Big cities just don't attract me.

Have been living in Switzerland for seventeen months and I recognise most of these points. I'd say a big plus is the air and water purity: every village has at least one drinking fountain with ground-chilled, mineral-water-quality water, which is great if you're on foot.

Switzerland isn't a budget destination, that's true. But there are cheap options like M-Budget (Migros), Prix Garantie (Coop) and Aldi, Lidl, Denner. So you can buy a bottle non branded Cola (1.5 liter) for 0.60 CHF, 8 Granola bars for 1.95 CHF and so on... and there are Coop and Migros Stores at Zurich Airport. So even there you can save some money.

Hi Claudia! You can use your Swiss Travel Pass instantly when you arrive in Switzerland, as long as you choose your arrival date as the validity start date when you buy your pass. For money exchange, we always use a debit card to get money from the ATM, but if you need to exchange money, you'll find options at the airport or major train stations. Hope this helps!

Hi Jana and Brett! I always hear that before going up in the mountains with the cable cars, you have to check the weather cams first. But doesn't the weather in the mountains change all the time? Maybe it's foggy in the morning and by the time you arrive it has a blue sky? Another question I have is if I want to go in July up to the Jungfraujoch or Schilthorn, isn't it necessary to book that in advance because it's so popular? Of course I would like to go when the weather is nice, can you still book for the same day? Maybe these are silly questions, but I really wonder how that works and I thought: let's ask the experts! Thank you!!
@AplinsintheAlps
@AplinsintheAlps Жыл бұрын
It's true that webcams are only so helpful. But they're great to check just before heading up. Our favorite resource is meteoswiss.admin.ch (Swiss weather website). It's way more accurate than our U.S. phone weather apps, and there's even a way to see how many minutes of sunshine are expected each hour! For the Jungfraujoch and Schilthorn, if you go early in the day and avoid weekends, you shouldn't need a reservation, and can book on the same day (use the SBB mobile app for the most convenience). Hope this helps!

We were going to do this over about 8 days hiking. but What is your opinion on this? We want to be able to spend time in some of these towns though, do you have any recommendations on maybe cutting out some of these stops and staying longer at other places I have listed ?

Question from a Swiss😊: Did you plan your trip according to the Via Alpina route (a national hiking route)? There the stages you mentioned are Meiringen-Grindelwald, Grindelwald-Lauterbrunnen, Lauterbrunnen-Griesalp, Griesalp-Kandersteg, Kandersteg-Adelboden, Adelboden-Lenk. 6 stages and quite some difference in altitude, so it might be an alternative to go only as far as Kandersteg. I don‘t know about your hiking experience of course, but sometimes less is more - and you‘d have more time to explore the Grindelwald area or Lauterbrunnen. Enjoy! 😊

But can you please do a video for Zermatt tour with 2 kids ( 5 &7), the places to visit there and tickets for trains and gondola there. Your videos helped last year as well. 1:28 - 10 CHF for a soda - and - a pack of chips? Hell no... I mean I know it's expensive but I never paid that much in my life. Give us the addresses so we will never go there. You can guy soda and chips for less than 5 CHF at Migros or Coop. And knowing an average salary per hour in Switzerland is around 20-24 CHF/20-24 €, that's pretty much okay. 2:24 - Complaining about the uneasy way to get a train ticket is... mesmerizing to me. Because virtually in no other country (might be the case in smaller countries such as St Kitts and Nevis) you will be able to use so many means of transportation with only one (or two) tickets at max'. You should try to go from Lille to Chamonix at the top of Mont-Blanc in France and you will get a real sense of «complicated» travel system and ticketing. I think pretty much that Switzerland offers such an impressive and great way to travel that as soon as it gets a bit less «easy going» but still way much easier than any other country to go to so many places with, I repeat, most of the time the possibility to buy 1 single ticket on a machine where everything is explained in French, German, Italian and English makes people being picky when they should just feel lucky. 4:28 - Sorry but planning *is* part of travelling. If you complain because you didn't check the weather and get heavy rain, c'mon. If a traveler is too dumb for not checking timetable of a funicular, well that's nothing to do with Switzerland but rather because the traveler was unprepared to travel. ;-) I hope you have enjoyed Switzerland and that my country and fellow citizen treated you well in return and made you feel welcome. Nice video and never forget to come back and visit. Again.

@@swisscitizen6951 So it's *really* not expensive to eat for 5 CHF a soda and a pack of chips. 👍 Again, what is said in the video about 10 CHF for a pack of chips and a soda might be true up at the top of a mountain. Who would not prepare and go buy this? Probably naive tourists. But average people who know how to travel would have planned this. I seriously doubt 10 CHF is the average for buying chps and soda in Switzerland. It might be, though, an exception.

@@nashtags sure, I totally agree. you can buy m-budget chips and a softdrink for 3 chf. and there is a mm migros store at zurich airport. so even there you can buy cheap (and good quality) stuff.

Poor comparison ...... Airport food costs much more than it's surroundings no matter what country you are in.

You’re right, it’s a good point that airport food is always overpriced. However, it’s still expensive to pick up a quick drink or snacks anywhere, that’s what we were trying to communicate. Thanks for clarifying!

u don't get lost? maybe it was somebody else but r u the guy that thought he had to get on a bus to another station, both of u were running around literally with bags, and it ended up being a platform a 100 ft away? I saw u guys or one of these travel guides doing that. With so many stops, train changes, diff stations, platforms, I wouldn't say it's super easy. Be careful.....

Haha, nope that definitely wasn’t us! We use the SBB app which simplifies hope to navigate all public transportation in Switzerland!

@@AplinsintheAlps Does that app, or Google app, tell you where to go/walk etc. down to the meter level? I heard Google will tell you where to walk like it would a car directions... get off train here, walk to this platform there, get on bus etc.

We highly recommend getting acquainted with the SBB app. It won't talk to you like Google will, but it's much more accurate and detailed for riding public transportation in Switzerland, including walking directions from your location to the train or bus stop where you need to go.

We’re so sorry you feel that way. Our goal is to help travelers feel confident before their trip to Switzerland, and that usually involves lots of speaking and communicating. We aim to show details as much as possible. Hopefully you can appreciate both our verbal information and scenic views as well!
