That half-swording display by Mark Wilkie at 2:39:16 was truly beautiful! One of the many highlights of this incredible event!

The entire final match was awesome. Seeing Ivan mix things up with his...unusual approach, but still in the end the masters proved effective.

There was something magic about this year, because I cant stop rewatching the tournament, not just one or two moments or matches, but the whole thing.

It'd be nice if next year position of fencer names in overlay will match they starting positions on ring, and not vice versa

Do they use their own weapons in sword and buckler category? If so, what is it? Regenyei?

I think they just have no external point of contact and didn't bother to create it. But may be mistaken.

what does 16:13 mean? the side reaches 16 points win? What if the 13 side received first 3 points? In real duel, this means the 16 side has dead already 3 times.

It's just how this tournament worked, you have other tournaments that only go to "first blood". There are pros and cons with both. With the "more realistic" way you have to be at your top game every time and you can go through a whole tournament in a very short time. But with the system they use here you take away some of the randomness and also evens out any mistakes by the judges (it's easy to miss what happened or even impossible from some angles). That way you are more likely to get the most talented swordsman at the top. Even then, you usually se the same people at the top no matter what kind of rules you use.

@@gurkfisk89 I honestly think 3 points are enough for a match. First, it is easy for both judges and swordsmans to be at their best game mode. Second, It prevents exchanges , since players will make attacks more carefully. This implies the process of the match will be more realistic. And the skills expressed by swordsmans will be more like sword-using skills. Third, it is long enough to prevent swordsman just win by randomness. I am not sure whether the same people will be at the top no matter what kind of rules. But I think the result is not the only concern, the process is also a necessary factor.

the new rules are shit imho. best would be a mix. counting the hit, and then not stopping immediately but waiting how the one who scored the hit gets out or if he does not get out without a double hit

Tom Truyens Apparently he hurt his right hand at some point before the tournament, hence the over reliance on one handed strikes! *Source:Matt Galas!

I think his athleticism would help him, but if you’ve watched or done sport fencing, you’ll see his style is way different from an Olympic fencer.
