This has to be the best painting of a Treeman/Ent I have seen. The colours and applications are beautiful. The finished piece is stunning.

I can't get over the amount of details you put into these models. Nobody on KZfaq uses speedpaint like you, its insane how well you use these paints. Perfect as always!!

Thanks very much! Yeh i do like using them, i think you can get a lot out of the range. But also using them alongside the normal acrylic range is pretty useful too :):)

So glad this popped up on my notifications. I have been struggling with the motivation to pick up a brush of late and my attempt last year at painting a small army of Ents was a disaster trying to replicate real world bark colours and failed. Thanks for the inspiration to open the door of my dusty hobby room!

Absolutely love the videos! I've had the box set of pelennor fields that I've only painted a few mini's from since last Christmas. Your painting guides have given me the enthusiasm to get cracking with them. Already bought the make-up brushes 😂

@@SwordsandBrushes Oh great love some Rohan. I painted a couple of Orks then painted the troll. Think I spent way too long on that (as it was my first big model that I've attempted to paint) and spent too long trying to get it to look just right and didn't end up enjoying it when finished!! I think I'll try some of the horse painting tips and try and bash out a load of Rohan Cav!!

Awesome job! Looks really stunning! I just got back into painting mini's and I'll follow this guide to paint Treebeard as well. I do have to ask, however. How did you choose the Citadel color equivalent that you wrote down for some paints? Looking at paint conversion charts online I get different results than what you mention.

Thank you kindly, hope you have fun painting treebeard! For the colours there is an old Army painter conversion chart that i used first, but then more Citadel colours came out - so i went to a hobby store to look at what would match nice enough and then amended/added the original chart :)

Thank you! No these trees were sent home as they were a commission i did except for Treebeard - he's sitting pretty on my shelf, and now i feel like i should do a full Ent force - i would like to have about 12 in total as i think it would look pretty ace! :)

Well... Bless my bark! Speedpaints were seemingly made for these types of minis. Large with lots of texture. Are you going to get whatever expanded SP paint line when they get released?

I just received this model for Christmas. I’m gonna follow your guide to paint it! Awesome! Unfortunately in my country the army painter brand is very rare. What citadel contrast paint would you suggest to use instead?

Awesome, it's a great miniature for sure. Im not too sure on the citadel equivalent for these as i have not used them (except for one colour) But going from a bone colour to the darker browns will be of use to start with. I hope that you have fun painting it and enjoy it :):)

Awesome miniature, i love how approachable you make painting look and how well you document your painting process. I am actually also thinking of getting some speedpaints due to having very little time to paint because of work and i would still like to field something that is not grey. Would you know if speedpaint actually reactivates when you brush on varnish instead of spraying it since it is very inconvenient for my location.

Thank you very much, I try to break things down so that they can be easily followed by anyone but also to try and make painting fun and enjoyable :) I use brush on varnish (Army painter Anti-shine Matt Varnish) on speed paints when I cant be bothered to get the airbrush booth out and it works fine, just takes a bit longer if you have a lot to do. I would either recommend to let them dry for a day just to be sure and to not put too much pressure on with the brush. Or what i do normally is just put the hair dryer on it for a few seconds and i find the paint dries very well. I even do this between layers of speed paint - so the same method would work with the varnish. But just to e super safe, if you have a spare miniature or bits of sprue, paint any left over speed paint on that and then do the steps above first as a tester. Hope that helps! :)

What a beautiful Treebeard. Awesome job...wow.. his eyes looks alive, I will attempt this when I eventually get my Treebeard. Are all those other Ents past GW releases? I'm new to the Middle Earth hobby scene and have only seen Treebeard and the back right one available to buy.

Thank you very much! It is just one of those miniatures which time seemed to fly by whilst painting :) There are a couple converted/kitbashed Ents which are the plastic ones, there is also a Blood Bowl ent, and old Warhammer Fantasy treeman and an old Metal ent in there too! So its quite a mixed bag haha P.s a warm welcome to the Middle Earth community! :):) How are you finding it so far?

Sure - In the group there is Quickbeam from Forgeworld, an old metal ent, a blood bowl Treeman character named Deeproot Strongbranch, also an old Wood Elf Tree man too :)

Not for the old metal model, I did record an extended version of the Ent project where i have a couple more methods and especially for the leaves. If people would like to have it then i can work on it! :)

It is a toss up between Morannon and the Fellbeast next I think - just depends on how much time i can make in the next week or so which will influence what i do next! They are both on the paint table at the moment! :):)

are the initial grey/browns applied via drybrushing technique?

Kind of, when i use make up brushes i try to keep them semi damp for best results - so not totally dry as you would do for a drybrush technique - BUT you totally can do a drybrush method as it will give you sharper highlights due to picking out the edges of the sculpt more :)

Treebeard are my favourite.. i am new with painting minifigures.. i would like to find all five trees and paint them with my daughter.. is still possible to find all of them? Any suggestion?

Fantastic! It's nice to hear that you paint with your daughter. Wel you can find treebeard, an ent and quickbeam on the games workshop website, the older metal ones ebay more than likely, though maybe o e day they will be a made to order for them again. But there are some nice minis from other companies too out there :)

Thanks very much! Yeh i think it was worth doing the extra highlight on them just to give it that little bit extra. I think that the time saved by using the Speed Paints first, then gave me extra time to work on the little its at the end :):)
