I have been using my Swytch Pro kit for two years now and so when I was asked to compare it to a rival, I felt I could offer a well-informed opinion and jumped at the chance!
In this video, I will take you through the Geeko kit from 100G and see how it stacks up against arguably the market leader, Swytch, both in terms of functionality and aesthetics. I hope you find my insights useful in helping you choose the right kit to transform your favourite bike into an e-bike.
If you want to learn more about either of these kits, place an order for a Geeko kit or join the waiting list for a Swytch kit, click on the below links and explore their websites. Both offer lots of information and insights into the hardware and the technology behind them.
Geeko have also sent me an exclusive code for you to use when placing an order, giving you $60 off the price! Just enter "Paul-60" at checkout!

For clarity, I paid for the Swytch kit shown in the video with my own money, whilst I received the Geeko kit free of charge from the suppliers with the intention of providing an honest and unbiased comparison review, which I believe I have done here. I was not paid for the review.

I can’t comment on other people’s experiences, but I ordered a 100G (rear wheel) kit on the strength of: a, this review, and b, the fact that I’d lost confidence in Swytch after months of waiting and the numerous bad reviews. The Geeko kit arrived when they said it would, every email query has been answered promptly and accurately, unlike Swytch who took days and then didn’t answer the question, and so far it’s been great fun. It’s got me out again after an annoying illness and the battery has enough juice to get me to the coast and back (about 45 miles) with capacity to spare, which is all I could have asked for. It’s a kit after all, a kit to put on your existing bike, in my case an old 90s MTB, so I wasn’t expecting a great deal, but it’s surpassed my expectations. Thanks Paul for the discount code. 👍

Nice review of the 2 units :) For chain free starting off, look at how cycle speedway riders start off :) I currently have 2 Swytch Gen 2 Pro installs, Brompton and Hybrid, which run great. My only concern is when the battery cells fail, and they will eventually, how I replace them. Hopefully some bright spark will bring out an adapter kit so I can use something like the Geeko battery instead.

Great comparison. Love the „chains off“test.😂 As a former Swytch owner, I fully agree with the up- and downsides of the kit and the business model. In addition, long term users (previous series) seem to have issues with controller defects (so did I) which usually happen outside of the warranty window. I think the Swytch is better suited to a Brompton (because where would you put the „bottle“?), the Geeko is certainly a better fit on a standard bike.

Actually I think when I signed up for Swytch, they did list the prices. Yes the wait is insane but the alternative is to ramp up prices, which would be worse, in my opinion. The reason I preferred swytch over more standard conversion kits (and even ebikes) is that its miniature design and low weight. The new battery appears to fit into a large pocket. This Geeko bottle looks a lot bulkier. A question: did you feel this difference in weight distribution? Thanks!
@PaulsViewsReviews
@PaulsViewsReviews Жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment. I did find the move of the weight of the battery from the handlebars to the frame definitely positive impacted how the bike rode. Weighted handlebars take some getting used to, where as a slightly heavier frame does not. The Geeko battery locks to the frame so I would be OK leaving it attached to the frame when the bike is locked up, albeit not for long just in case a thief sees it as a challenge. As a result, the bulkiness of the battery is not important. The Swytch has not got the option to leave the unit on the bike. I still really rate my Swytch kit, but I preferred the set up of the Geeko.

Thank you for the detailed review. At 6:40 you mention the pedal assist sensor for the swytch was left on with the 100G kit and you mention that bike had no gap. Does that mean the 100G definitely would not fit around that crank or would just be a terrible fit. It looks like you can get the wheel with a quick release which I don't think the swytch does. Also with anything being imported I'm always a little worried that any import tax and duties would offset the initial cheaper cost.* Do you know what specific model you tested? I can't find a 250W version with a thumb throttle. Only one without, or higher watt motors with throttle. And there doesn't seem to be an option to add it as an seperate extra. *Import tax included in price apparrently.

Morning. I did leave the pedal sensor from there Swytch on the 100G kit because it did seem to be a better fit for my particular bike. The Geeko version fitted the other bikes in the house without any issue but, for some reason, mine simply didn't have this gap in the crank. Not sure why but it is a few years old so is probably the exception rather than the rule. I haven't looked into the quick release element of the front wheel but it is a really good point, as the wheel has the motor and would be a coupe of quid to replace. Might not be fun to carry around but definitely worth bolting to your frame. Regarding the import element, 100G assure me that all taxes and duties are taken care of as part of the price you pay - I had no issues. Lastly, regarding the throttle, send them an email - they're a helpful team and will point you in the right direction, I'm sure. Enjoy the kit, if you go ahead - it's very impressive.

I’m shopping this style kit. My choice is the 100G, not able to do a front wheel hub, due to no go with mounting PAS on my gear case. With that said, lm told the PAS is inside the 100G rear hub, so I’m good with a fear mount! But, I’m putting onto a beach cruiser, tire width 2.125. Told by 100G that their wheel can accommodate a tire 1.5 to a 2.125 tire. Wheel height on my cruiser is 26 inch. I’m Not sure I’m going to like this thin of a wheel on a beach cruiser? Your thoughts on the 100G wheel size for a cruiser, my cruiser. Also, my bike has traditional brakes with pads that squeeze the side of the wheel rim to stop? Thanks for your thoughts! Hi. I have to admit that my knowledge on the product and the suitability for bikes other than my own is pretty minimal. The guys at Geeko are far better equipped to offer useful answers. They are actually sending me a rear wheel kit to test shortly, so I’ll share my findings on the hardware soon. I’m then going to connect both the front and the back kits in tandem to create a two wheel drive e bike. Looking forward to that one!

Concur with the delivery time. Ordered mine in April and finally received all the parts in December. Ordered the new Max. So far so good. I only use it when needed. I am also concerned if and when the battery does fail, how long it will take to order and receive another one. Great informative video, took my Swytch bike with the Max power pack out yesterday for the first time, power on all the time, inicially very impressed, but after about 7 -8 miles my motor was cutting out intermittently and coming on again after a few seconds especially on hills. I first thought that the censor or magnets may have been covered in mud as it has been very wet, then i thought the disk may be slipping, not turning all the time, but i don,t think so. Maybe i am expecting too much as there was some steep hills i this ride, another thing no one has mentioned is when free wheeling down the other side a hill the motor is acting like a magnetic brake unless you switch the power off. Only one ride so far so time will tell. I wonder why they didn't design the power pack to fit on a rack over the back wheel out of the way. Having another Max power pack to change over to double the range may be a good idea or just save the power for the hills.
@PaulsViewsReviews
@PaulsViewsReviews Жыл бұрын
I do think the range claims are a little on the optimistic side.You need to get into the habit of only using the motor when gravity is not on your side - it'll give you the best chance of longer range, even if it is a bit of a pain turning it on and off.

I placed the Swytch order in September and the delivery was due in December which I had paid for £1194. But after 4 weeks of delay, I was forced to cancel the order despite asking to arrange my own delivery from Norwich. People used to say the wait was up to 1 year, but I did not believe in them. I actually broke down in tears today when I received the email confirming my cancellation because my commute takes 4 hours from one city to the neighbouring city and I desperately needed the e-bike converter kit. However, having watched this video, I became hopeful again. The most important thing in life is to make oneself and others happy and you made me so happy today with this video. Thanks for your objective review. I'm still considering what to do, as with me being an occasional cyclist I'm worried that the battery packs on any e-bike kit stuff up due to lack of use or infrequent charging. I'm assuming, rightly or wrongly that most of these packs are full of 18650s and can they be re-celled or do you pay as much again for a new pack and can you still get the same pack a couple of years down the line ?
@PaulsViewsReviews
@PaulsViewsReviews 7 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. My Swytch kit battery is indeed essentially a bag full of 18650s, but their newer batteries might be a little harder to access (mine literally has a zip around the top to access whereas the new ones look like sealed plastic units). As for the Geeko unit, it is a sealed metal unit and not so easy to get into, so I can't easily verify the battery type. Regarding the battery capacity fading over time, it will happen, I assume, but I have had my Swytch kit for a couple of years and don't use it all that often at all. Despite this, the range doesn't seem to be degrading to a level which I have noticed or been impacted by. The Geeko is too young to be able to judge. Hope this helps alleviate your concerns a little.

I'm tempted to get one, but I imagine I'd like to swap back to pure analog every so often. Could you comment on how much worse your bike is assuming you swap back your old wheel and lose the battery and if you keep the wheel but lose the battery for a ride? How much weight / resistance are you adding with the controller / bottleframe etc.?
@PaulsViewsReviews
@PaulsViewsReviews Жыл бұрын
Hi. There is a little resistance but it is not overly noticeable on either of these kits. You can easily leave the wheel with the motor in the hub on the bike, leave the battery at home and ride as normal. The versatility to choose is one of the advantages, in my view.

Thanks for the positive feedback - much appreciated. Both kits claim to have water resistance and I have not seen anything to suggest otherwise in my use so far. The motors in the hubs are sealed units and the connecting cables should not present a problem if pointing down when installed (which I did not initially but have since remedied). The only exposed connections on the Geeko kit are under the battery, where it plugs in so there is ample protection, and the Swytch battery is in a rubberised unit so ought to be fine. The updates Swytch kit is all plastic, I believe, so should be equally weather resistant.

Hi. The Wh measurement is calculated by multiplying the voltage (v) by the Amp/hours (Ah), meaning the 36V 7.8Ah battery is the 280Wh. Swytch display capacity as Wh so I converted the Geeko for easier comparison. For this test, I had the battery on full power going up and down some nasty hills. It lasted 15 miles but was not fully charged at the beginning, as I had already conducted some tests. Therefore, Geeko's estimate of about 30km/18.6miles seems about right to me.

Was so looking forward to getting the Geeko 100G after waiting 6 weeks but the motor wheel (front version) is too small. I have 27.5” wheels. It says so on the receipt from the bike shop! They said I should have clicked on the 29” button when I ordered. The ISO measure is 622mm. So my original wheel is 25” without the tyres. They sent me one which is 23.5”. On what planet is a 23.5” wheel 29”. Anyway whoever is right make absolutely sure you send a photo of the tyre measurements and measure your wheel exactly and tell them when you order. Have had no luck in getting a replacement. Their customer service is awful. Now they’re saying they don’t deal with their European warehouse anymore and need to find a new one. So I’d have to pay shipping back to China and back again for the replacement. As for the 7 day refund policy they said it doesn’t apply because I opened the packaging! What kind of policy is that? How can I tell if everything is right without opening the packaging? So I’m not saying don’t buy it. The kit looks good. We apologise for any inconvenience caused by the wheel diameter. With regard to wheel diameters, we offer standard models. The figures for tyre diameters can usually be found on the tyres and there is no need to read articles on the internet to measure them, which can easily be wrong. In emails we have been proactive in providing solutions, which we offer below. 1. find a local bike shop and re-assemble the wheel. 2. return the kit or wheel, just make sure it shows no signs of use or handling. For reasons of cost and time, we recommend the first option. However, we also accept the option of returning the product. In the end you choose the first option. Regarding the reassembly of the wheel, please feel free to contact us if you have any questions, such as what length of spokes to choose.

In response, you initially told me the 7 day refund policy didn’t apply because I had opened the packaging! I have proof of this in an email. You later said you will accept a return, which is too late because I am paying a bike shop £100 to make up a new wheel. Also your website still refers to the possibility of shipping to or from your European dealers which would be cheaper but you then said you’re not dealing with them any more so I would have to pay shipping and customs costs to China. This needs to be clear to customers when they order. As for the wheel size, not all customers are experts in bike mechanics. The ONLY 100% accurate way of measuring wheel size is the ISO measure - the diameter of the wheel only, not the tyre which could be any thickness. The advice on your website is not detailed enough. Finally, any good company in a competitive market would at least make an offer for compensation. You believe this is all my fault. But I have pointed out that your ordering process is not good enough and needs to be improved. @@100gsmarttech4

How did you install that magnet ring, as you mentioned you had no space either? I'd appreciate your insight. Sadly cannot consider the Geeko option as no room for the battery due to the rear suspension in the frame triangle😢 Cheers for now.

Firstly, thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. The Swytch kit actually has the best kit for fitting the front cadence sensor, as the ring is attached to an adjustable arm which you connect to your pedal crank with tie clips. You get the position right with a small allen/hex key and it totally alleviates the space issue. I don't think you'll have an issue installing it at all. Enjoy the ride!

I'm still planning to try and convert my Trek Fuel EX 9.9 2010 bike, using the 100g. tech Geeko kit, I'd been chatting to them and they can send their prototype pedal sensor with the kit, I'll try and send the info too you, plus an image of my Trek bike if you'd be interested. Thanks again Paul, your videos are a great help mate 👍

Pretty sure when it says thumb throttle it’s as the name implies and it is meant for the rider to PRESS the lever forward with the thumb. In short, it seems to me that you have installed the throttles in a wonky position.
@PaulsViewsReviews
@PaulsViewsReviews Жыл бұрын
Hi. I agree but, as shown in the video, it is virtually impossible to put it near your thumb without making the brake lever and the gear switcher impossible to use. The Geeko is infinitely better than the Swytch version, though. The Swytch really was designed on the assumption that you were fitting it to a bike with no gears. Really odd, as they got so much right.

Don't go with Swytch. They cannot deliver their product. My kit was supposed to arrive in March 2023. When it didn't arrive by April, I opened my first support ticket. Swytch told me the order was delayed due to the warehouse taking inventory for 2 weeks. The order tracking page was updated to show a mid-April expected delivery. 2+ weeks later and no update - so I opened my second support ticket. This time I was told that the warehouse was backed up and could not ship more that 180 units per business day and that they sold 5000 units. The tracking page was updated to show an early May expected delivery. Another 3 weeks went by with no updates so I opened my third support ticket and was told to be patient that the delivery was further delayed. I looked today and the expected delivery is now mid-June. After waiting 9 months to just place an order, I am now waiting another 9 months after giving them my money - and delivery is delayed over and over.

Swytch V2 owner here. The kit was ordered on May. Arrived last Friday. Wife is happy with her “new” bike. As you said, the Swytch model is frustrating, I was to ask for the money back several times because all the delays. Also, they haven't advertisement for a consumer product like this. Their KZfaq (Only standard ads from months ago), Reddit, other social media, no ambassadors, nothing. I have nothing to say about the quality, is top-notch but I hope they can change the model. They have so amazing kit that they can partner with some bicycle companies to make Swytch bikes ready. Like MIPS is doing with the bike helmet industry.

There are more and more inexpensive ebike options appearing each month and it comes down to what you want and what you can afford. If you already have a bike, with great components and you love it, an e-bike conversion is a great idea. If you starting from scratch, an out-of-the-box bike is a great solution. Each to their own.

THERES A FLAW with your tests, the motors are controlled by a microchip which decides how much torque and so on, this basically effects the power and how fast the motor burns out. less torque=longer life. So to compare the two kits, you would have to make sure that they both were using the same settings for their microcontrollers.
@PaulsViewsReviews
@PaulsViewsReviews Жыл бұрын
True enough but beyond my technical capabilities to be 100% certain of consistency, to be honest. I have both kits tuned to their maximum performance at all times, just so I am getting the most they have to give (even if it is potentially detrimental to their life span). This is probably the closest I can get to a like for like and exactly what a consumer buying either product would experience, which is hopefully useful to a viewer considering either kit.
@viet0ne
@viet0ne Жыл бұрын
Not a flaw, because these are drop in kits and absolutely should be compared out of the box. If he was comparing motors and controllers sure then you would want to know how configurable the settings can be. But that isn't a valid comparison here as they are drop in kits that you won't be mixing and matching the motor, controller, battery like you would if you sourced parts for your own build.

I think the key is if you like your existing bike so much that you want to keep it but want, or maybe need, the extra boost from a battery and motor. However, if you are looking for a new bike and want e-bike functionality, I would definitely suggest buying a ready built e-bike over buying a new 'regular' bike and converting it.

The problem with most eBikes: the gears are very limited, usually 7-speed in a narrow range (14-28t), really designed for the motor to be used almost all of the time. And they’re very heavy! Based on this review, I’ll be installing a Geeko kit on my new lightweight Marin bike with 1x10 gearing - sufficient gearing to climb the steepest hills without assistance, if I need to. I intend to pedal most of the time unaided, so I don’t degenerate into a lazy fat old fart.

@@HDsharp If you're not going to pedal, why get an eBike? Might as well get an eScooter or eMotorbike, something without pedals. Technically, we're talking about a form of moped. I want to use my pedals for more than a footrest. The kit suppliers are only crooks if their products don't work, and most of the better ones do. Wheel build with motor, controller, PAS sensor, battery, throttle, wires, display -- worth $500 to me over trying to Frankenstein my own kit.

In our email correspondence with Mr. James Corrigan, we have been actively trying to resolve this issue. After our pleading, James Corrigan provided the only video available, but in it he covered the key area with his finger so we could not see the product at all. Later, we provided two videos showing Mr. James Corrigan how to take clear videos so we could find the problem. We repeatedly asked Mr. James Corrigan for the videos in each of our emails, but Mr. James Corrigan consistently refused to do so. We are engineers, not debaters, and we need to solve problems with actions. Without video and further cooperation, we will not be able to resolve the issues raised by James Corrigan with only verbal arguments.
