As a trucker of 42 yrs, the fact that the load came off the trailer tells me the strapping was not done properly. Besides that, the ball was not in the bed of the truck. (1:24min) Either over stressed or not properly installed. But a fifth-wheel hitch would have been a better choice.

As a flatbed truck driver. On off ramps like that or sharp curves especially with a trailer with the load being high center of gravity is probably the number one cause of most roll overs. Glad all people are ok. Machines can be fixed or replaced. That's what insurance is for.
@frankrotello89382 жыл бұрын
Yup, I once hitched my tag-along car carrier to the ball, but it wasn't actually full seated on the ball. The ball actually hung up the lock so when I thru the latch it went right in place. I had no idea that my trainer hitch was sitting on the bottom of the lock and not in the ball socket. Thankfully I wasn't going very far and the tongue weight held it in place. But when I got home and went to unload, all hell broke loose. As soon as the car was far enough back the tongue shot up and tore a gash in my tail gate. needless to say I needed a few friend and a change of under ware to get out of this mess.
@mjodr2 жыл бұрын
I was a truck driver for a while. Company rule was 5 mph under the posted limit on the curve. Sometimes I did 10 mph under. Their trailer isn't heavy enough, so the CoG is too high. I bet they were doing exactly the posted limit on the curve or just over because they were so comfortable towing that trailer, but it's not capable.
@jonnie2bad2 жыл бұрын

I’d recommend a 5th wheel conversion on the trailer or a new trailer with a 5th wheel. That would allow for less play in the trailer and it has a lot safer of a locking mechanism than a gooseneck. B&W companion is a great hitch that mounts up to your gooseneck and is a ton safer than gooseneck
@TacoTodd_4202 жыл бұрын
That's right buddy exactly what I was thinking why would you have all that weight on a gooseneck. Yes I see it on my travels in my state all the time. Humans hauling equipment etc. On gooseneck trailers. I personally would not trust one with the amount of responsibility you have when hauling.

Just from my experience as a truck driver, looks like a lot of weight sitting way up high for that little stilt of a trailer hitch connected to your truck. Just the law of physics working against you when you came around the curve. That sucks bro, I hope you guys get back to it quickly. 🤙
@francikaa12 жыл бұрын
Yes. All of the load on the first half of the trailer was way too high, plus all the cars are lifted,made it even worse. This trailer has a design flaw. In old England we have double decker trailers+trucks up to 97003lb. You have to have +20% or more weight all the time on the top deck. Also the trailer here does not connected properly to the pulling vehicle by that knob, giving it less stability against tipping during cornering. So the trailer went over, without getting any the stabilily from the pulling vehicle.
@Goat-vy2bi2 жыл бұрын
Yeah its too top heavy. Its easy to get used to towing and you feel comfortable about it. But as a truck driver, that is really top heavy…

I am so sorry this happened, it really sucks, but listen, you don't have "bad luck" gents. You are constantly on the road, constantly doing stuff. You don't have any more issues than the normal person, you just do SO MUCH that it "seems" like you get more than your fair share. For every 50 times on the road the "average" person probably has 1 issue. You are on the road 20 times a month, so the issues come quicker than most. It probably takes me a full season sometimes two to get out over 50 times. I just riveted up my sled trailer after a "soft" rollover...lol. If there is such a thing. I didn't have full coverage though so I had to bandaid and bubblegum things back together for now. Keep up the good work, we love your channel. Don't let things like that get you down for a second! Guys, times like these you just remember you have each other and your families. That's all that matters. I can't wait to see the recovery story arc from here, SXSblog will only grow from this, much love from Australia- you guys made me get my first RZR in 2019.

High center of gravity, long sweeping turn, the trailer flipped and came out of its kingpin and took the fender off. It didn’t come unhooked. Sucks to see it boys, but it happens to the best of us sometimes. Glad everyone is ok!

They never latched it. If it were latched the truck would have flipped with it.

@@huskers1278 ...But wouldn't the ball still be in the back of the truck ? The ball went with the trailer , they went around the curve way too fast .

New subscriber going through all your awesome content. So glad y’all were ok on this. Them exit ramps can be super sketchy when you have weight up in the air. Been a truck driver since I was 18, seen it many times. And it’s almost the exact same sentence. I didn’t think I was going that fast LOL Things happen yall are safe, god is good.

Storm cloud: tipped the trailer crashed the load. Silver lining: plenty of content for the channel. Glad to see you guys able to take the punches and laugh through it looking forward to seeing you get these rigs back together and rippin'!

Plenty of content for the insurance to blame the driver for not checking the load and make sure the gooseneck ball was locked in place

I’d really like to see someone “pass the hat around” at Indy this weekend. Those grandstands are full of SXS Blog fans and while buying merch definitely helps, it would be cool to see the donation bucket get some love without expecting anything more than good content (and good karma) in return.

I applaud your intentions but let’s be honest here, they make a ton of money on KZfaq, and I guarantee they have everything insured enough that while they are transporting, in the event of a catastrophic issue like this, their insurance will cover pretty much everything. I love channels like theirs, Cleetus, and all the others, but as businesses, they take all the appropriate measure to protect themselves. Keep buying their merch and keep watching their videos, that’s all they need.

I agree with a few other comments on here, those gooseneck's will tip when you least expect it. I know those f350's can be fitted with 5th wheel hitches, I think that should be your next upgrade. Tough break. Bunch of awesome dudes that don't deserve any of the bad luck you've had lately. Keep your heads up and keep sending it!!
@JesseG0852 жыл бұрын
5th wheels aren't any better when they're not locked in. 🤦♂️ These guys have no business towing anything. Luckily no innocent people were injured.
@wilddeuce94612 жыл бұрын
Yeah doesn’t appear the ball was locked into the receiver in the bed of the truck. Looked like the fucktards don’t do a pre trip inspection. Maybe insurance fraud……..
@theoneandonly25902 жыл бұрын
well considering the chains weren't connected in the first part of the video, would lead me to assume they never fully connected the trailer. That is why you should double and triple check your work, especially when they were probably in a rush, with little to no sleep.
@sirmonkey19852 жыл бұрын
@@theoneandonly2590 if you look closely at the chains the mounts where they were connected are still connected to the chains, nice try though.

The ball wasn’t pinned into the bed 1:36. They didn’t pin it. I also don’t see any chains!

Nice driving mate!! those trailers are so unstable and not good to tow with the centre of gravity is too high. If you're towing an articulated type of trailer you should have the appropriate semi-truck CDL licence. And then you hook it back up again and then use it? like WTF?!
@indianacarguy2 жыл бұрын
Glad y'all were ok. You still showed up for the event, showed love to all of your fans and put on a great show. Thank you all.
@customconnections24252 жыл бұрын
What Brian Wilson said, plus you need a 5th wheel to add a more stable connection to your combination vehicle. Glad you guys are ok and this is all replaceable. Sorry for the lost work, but you will have the opportunity to do it again. This will be one of those ‘remember when we…’ stories that will be told with a laugh hopefully soon.
