6 жыл бұрынIn this 2017 lecture as part of Red Bull Music Academy Paths Unknown, Syd sat down on the couch in London to look back on what she had learned from her days with Odd Future and the Internet, detail her approach to writing and explore how collaborations have shaped her sound.

LA native Sydney Bennett started making music as a teenager, eventually connecting online with Tyler, the Creator and joining up with his Odd Future collective. Bennett found early success as Syd Tha Kyd producing tracks and DJing on tour for the collective. Eager to explore her own creativity, Bennett founded the Internet, an electronic soul project, in 2010 with fellow OF affiliate Matt Martians. By 2015, the band had released three albums and earned a Grammy nomination. That’s when Bennett, now known simply as Syd, began her third act - as a solo artist and songwriter. In 2017, she released her debut studio album Fin.
The Red Bull Music Academy is a global music institution committed to fostering creativity in music. We celebrate music, its culture, and the transformative minds behind it. Begun in 1998, the Academy has taken the core principles that underlie its annual workshop for selected participants and applied this curatorial approach to events, lectures, and city-wide festivals throughout the year.

Sid is a Contralto. She sounds a bit like an adolescent boy whose voice is just beginning to "break". Hers is has an earthy voice. The color of her chest voice has some similarity to Bruno Mars! @9:00 "l came to realize l have a very specific voice... Not everybody can sing my songs..." Unless it's a man with a high pitch voice?

Love her music, and the internet. But I hate this always happens when people go solo. I remember she did the live performance at the desk with the band, "under control" song but before they did it she dedicated it to her band saying basically once she gets big she wont forget about them and they will get success together. Disappointing

What are you talking about? Under Control was on their 2015 album Ego Death. Then in 2017 she did her solo album Fin. In 2018, The Internet did came back and did their album Hive Mind. And everyone from the group except the drummer has done solo projects. They're still a band. What's disappointing? Because I'm confused by your statement.

@@Brielle905 I read they broke up on tour, and the reasons why few reasons but one is that they became homophobic in a way and felt they were using them for her "get out of jail card". There was other issues as well, of course the usual with groups like money, autonomy etc Also keep in mind I'm still learning about this group as I have only found out about them about a month ago, so just going off of what I read and see in interviews.

@@bengals098558 That's a different group called Odd Future. That group was created by Tyler the Creator. Syd and Matt Martians were apart of Odd Future then branched out to create The Internet. The Internet is still together but Odd Future is over.

But she didn't leave Odd Future because of homophobic stuff. She left to do her own thing. The Internet. And then soon started doing solo stuff. But The Internet is completely fine.
