Just found your channel and an truly grateful. Your comfort with your imperfection and the approachability you bring has given me the confidence to tackle my first ever bike maintenance tasks 😬 Today, with your help, I successfully degreased and lubed my chain, and I changed my own disc brake pads!!! Thank you two so much

Method #3 is what I usually use. I use a light source like a lamp and place it on the other side of the caliper. What it does is the light makes it easier for me to see if the rotor is centered between the pads. Kinda like a "light at the end of the tunnel" approach. I hope I make sense. :)

Pro tip... Slowly tighten one bolt barely tight and then the other bolt barely tight and go back and forth until they're both tightened to the correct torque. Don't tighten one down completely and then the other down completely, you will misalign the caliper 9 times out of 10 doing it that way.
@romanryuninvalek487

What do you mean by "one bolt" and "the other bolt"? There is only one pad adjustment screw. What or where is that other pad adjustment screw?

I can't thank you enough for this great video! I assembled my new mountain bike and noticed that the front break disc was rubbing against the break pads. I didn't want to start using the bike before fixing it. I couldn't. It was going on my nerves. Before taking the bike to the repair shop, I decided to look up for a video on KZfaq and came across this video. The 2nd way (with the paper) fixed the problem beautifully. What a relief! The repair shop would cost me €60 to €80. I fixed the disc, thanks to this video, in just 10 minutes.

Your vids have been a great help to me Syd. My new Shimano XTs and Ice Rotors were so close, between pads and pistons, that they rubbed and I manually loosened the mounts and retightened them incrementally while spinning the wheel. Problem is I couldn't see a gap and that is a problem with some brakes having such tight tolerances. Feeling for vibration was what finally worked.
