yes it is very open. i visited in 2017.

Very quiet and hardly popular on weekdays unless there is an event on a weekend.

Platform 1 and 4 are used on special event days, so on those trains, both doors may open (I've never actually seen this for myself) but on a regular weekday, platform 3 is the only one in use, so only one side opens. On Trackwork days, Platform 2 will be used for T1/T2 trains while 3 is for the T7, on special events all platforms will be used, I'm pretty sure both sides open and yes, they require Opal cards.

@@MsetFox M sets can be used for the T4. A and B Sets can't

@@raph6931 no m sets have too much power otherwise they would be operating on that line

@@MsetFox they don't use too much power, only the A and B Sets do. If M Sets used too much power, H Sets wouldn't be able to operate on the T4 either (yet they do). The reason M Sets aren't used is because the T4 is segregated from all other lines, so only one type of rolling stock is used. There aren't enough M Sets available to fully staff the T4, so Tangaras are used instead.

They were originally T5 trains (meant for Liverpool) but because of Trackwork between Glenfield and Fairfield, T5 trains went to Olympic Park from Schofields, and the A Sets are common on the T7 on a Weekend

It is only stopped by Homebush and Parramatta all stops services weekly

Parramatta services stop at Homebush, unless if it is a Trackwork train where the stopping pattern is affected and require to stop at Homebush. Homebush is used to terminate local all stations trains on weekends.

Lindfield trains don't normally run to Olympic Park unless if it is a special event day or a Trackwork day, but if something was to happen to the train, a Bus would replace it.

I’m sure it’s for events, although the most major events was during the Olympics 21 years ago but still is busy during the Easter Show.

It is designed as a Balloon Loop.

The reason it is designed like this is that for big events like the NRL grand final or state of origin and Easter show to name a few, the capacity is improved as there is less dwelling time due to dedicated boarding and alighting sides, I have been on platforms after NRL games and platforms filled with whole schools even and boarding on standard platforms can be a pain as people boarding have to wait for people deboarding

Due to Trackwork between Fairfield and Glenfield that weekend. T5 Line trains had a line change to T1 and ran shuttle services between Schofields and Olympic Park :)

It is a great station, on weekends and special event days it gets great train movement from a bunch of different lines, such as the T1 and T7 and on Main Suburban Line Trackwork days, T2 trains also run there. Whats also amazing is that Olympic Park and Lidcombe Platform 0 get a train every 10 Minutes while the T3 Bankstown gets 2 trains (one in each direction) every 30 minutes :/
