Think of the 3 wires of 3-phase as 3 points around a circle. Imagine each wire turning on-off in order of 1, 2, 3 clockwise around the circle. Now switch any two wires and the order will be counterclockwise around the circle.

Thanks for sharing. Yes, not only SYIL, generally everything can be okay during testing at the factory, but things can happen during transportation. Good idea to test with water first

Congratulations on your new Syil. Sorry to see the coolant tank leaking problem you had. Cheers, Aaron.

Switch any 2 of the 3 HOT WIRES to reverse the pump. Someone just starting to understand this will miss the fact you don't switch with the ground wire.

Looks so cool with both side by side. Must feel great to have 2 spindles for 2/3 the cost of industrial machines.

No doubt! I expect pretty big things out of the X7

For what it's worth, the high leg on the Delta impacts 240v and 120v applications. So, if one of the legs of the 3 phases were used to power 120v equipment, that would be an issue. But since you are going through a transformer, the transformer might actually change the wiring from delta to WYE.

I ran the coolant washdown hose thru one of the bungs and inside the machine. I was just worried if it ever sprung a leak. If something bad can happen it will happen to me. I want to do something different with the air line too, maybe route it over the top and down. Don't want those dragging on the floor. You were smart to remove the entire plate. I should have been that smart. I am learning with mine but it will be forever before I am making fancy parts. Good luck with yours!

I am looking more and more at a Syil. The Tormach just seems soooo Mickey Mouse.

The PEX should not be used long term. I breaks down with UV light and not rated for compressed air and may be affected by oil in the air. It will get hard and start cracking, which leads to blowouts. You spent good money on the machines, you should use copper it's not that expensive. Rapid Air is expensive, but that's a viable option also. The copper you can get locally at Home Depot also. You can get away with shark bites even, with the copper. Those feed wire gauges look a little small. Is there a green ground wire between the components? Flexible conduit is not a great choice for that application, conduit is much better. The voltages across each pair of the three wires should be identical. There are digital phase converters that can give you proper, similar voltages on all of the phases. 110V on the two legs is NOT going to give you full spindle and servo performance and may even cause control issues depending on which leg the control is running off. They make 110V single phase --> 380V 3 phase converters. Your missing wire strain reliefs on the idler motor and other cables. Tripping over that flexible conduit while live could be a big issue. You should add a disconnect switch box in addition to the circuit breaker. Your electrician friend did not give you the top advice I'm afraid you might need to consult the NEC standards. I'm concerned about your safety, especially with the 380V high voltages in some of the components. Best of luck.

Are you able to run the same tool holders from the Tormach in the Syil X7? Do they use the same pull stud?

I could be wrong but your wires coming into feed the machine look way too small. How many amps per leg?
@tj.schwarz
@tj.schwarz 7 ай бұрын
They are sized correctly according to rated amperage. I don't remember off the top of my head what they are. You probably already know, but 3 phase distributes the load and is able to use a fair bit smaller wire gauge than single phase.

Can I ask what is the minimal amperage you would need for the 3 phase converter? I currently have 40amps in my garage..
@tj.schwarz
@tj.schwarz 2 жыл бұрын
I'm not an electrician, so I can't really speak with any confidence. All I can say is that the breaker needed for this particular phase converter is 50amp, but I know for a fact that the Syil is not going to use the full capacity of the 15hp converter. I have heard of people running a 10hp converter with this machine, which would be below 40 amps, but again I can't really guarantee anything.
