No, him staying with Mercedes is unrealistic, him marrying Mercedes in the first place is unrealistic, no sane man would get together with a stuck up cold-hearted slapper and make her a wife and continue to stay with a trainwreck like that.

Know what else was harsh? Sending him to prison for something he didn't do. Prison is a nightmare for him. He had spend his childhood in there and Mercedes knew how traumatic it was for him and she still lied about him shooting her. Silver never wanting to be with her again is understandable.
