In this lesson, I share how to establish the correct relationship between the arms and the body in your swing. I demonstrate how you can develop the correct sequencing through the feeling of a shorter arm swing, with a full turn back and through.

I love you Paddy, followed you at my first ever Open at Muirfield, Loved you ever since - what a player. Seen you plenty of times since. Bob Torrence is a local legend here in Largs & you were by far his best ever student. I'm sure he was proud of you - which means we are proud of you. You're giving back that love to the people, by giving your time for free here. Shame Largs has lost Bob's school, it's hidden by high fences now & inaccessible to the normal people who love golf, but can't afford to access facilities on their doorstep. Bob would NEVER have suffered seeing locals pushed away from the game like this, there were never any fences when you were there with him. Grassroots, is where we need to encourage future champions & you have always seemed to carry the love of the ordinary people with you, like Bob did. I wish you could see what it's like now & I bet you would be ashamed of what they have done. You'll always be the people's champion to me & I believe a little bit of Bob lives on in you. Can't wait until you captain Europe to a stunning Ryder Cup triumph, no one carries it better than you except Seve - but he's Seve & no one can carry it better than Seve :)

Another great video by the best professional golfer making KZfaq videos! Clear, Concise, and Engaging: Paddy's communication style is perfect. He breaks down complex details into easily digestible steps, ensuring that even beginners can follow along without feeling overwhelmed. He addresses fundamental principles and provides advanced insights, making it beneficial for everyone. His demonstration of the swing helped me understand the nuances better than any written instructions could.

This is a great advice. I started trying to imagine I was doing a three-quarter swing a while ago just to stop myself overswinging, and definitely found my timing improved as a result. Would love to see a video on how to play uneven lies. I'm never sure if I should stand closer to the ball, lean forward, lean back, bend my knees more, aim left, aim right... A video would be greatly appreciated!

What I would love to see is that TV programme come back ( around with Alliss ) but obviously it would be a round with Paddy , maybe your too young to remember it 😗………my tip would be to ask how you stay focused over a shot and stop your mind wandering , I have got better over the past year with trying to stop other things rushing to my head and just concentrate on the dimply object in front of me but just wondered if you had any tips for maximum focus ……thank you as always for your generosity and fingers crossed 🤞🏻 you win on the regular tour as your still up there playing unbelievable golf ……💪👏

Makes total sense--but the pro teaching world needs to wake up. I'm 72 with an 8 hdcp and have lost a little but not a lot of flexibility (I stretch regularly) and I can make a sufficiently full turn . A couple of days ago one of my club teaching pros commented, gee Tom, it's amazing how much speed you generate with such a short backswing--obviously this guy doesn't get it ! Look at John Rahm for instance--lower extremity orthopedic issues as a youth caused him to have a short backswing, but no one would argue that he can't move the ball because as you have pointed out, he is synched up!!

Love this. And thanks. This is first time I've ever seen someone encourage floppy arms warm-ups. Which is exactly what I need as a message from a golf swing expert. Because I (inadvertently) try generate power by getting far too rigid, too much body/big muscles involvement and not enough arm swing.

Really struggling with pulling my arms through the swing rather than swinging club. Suffer with low and high fades/slices. Losing 20 yards distance. Good luck tomorrow Paddy !! For me as a left handed right hander its bloody hard, I can only assume what you guys feel being propper handed, what I mean is, for me, as a left hander, my main hand is right hand, this is top hand, and left hand is lower which, when I hold anything in it feels weak uncoordinated no control, I just hope for the best when I hit, but being a left hander feels right, If I grab anything with two hands i'm left handed, nearly everything else is right handed. Here's to hit n hope lol. I have a hcp of around 9.

Fair to say, especially for amateurs, you'd generally see very little difference in clubspeed and distance between a full swing and a 3/4 swing? I feel like I play my best when my default swing is kind of an abbreviated 3/4 swing, but in control and well-tempo'd. It might even be better for me to think of 3/4 swings as "100%" effort, and anything beyond that is like 110%. Most people's perception of a 3/4 swing probably ends up being more like a ~90% effort in reality anyway.
@jerryturner2310
@jerryturner2310 9 ай бұрын
As an amateur, my thinking is John Daly kind of ruined us. I love me some John Daly, but he did NOT have a short arm swing. But we loved his distance and thought we could emulate him. But after watching a lot of John Rahm and Tony Finau, I've shortened my swing and have hit the sweet spot a lot more and I'm extremely pleased with how my swing has progressed.
@johnk.atchley5079
@johnk.atchley5079 9 ай бұрын
Good advice as always. But one thing. When you took what you called a 3/4 backswing at minute 3:57, your hands actually ended up high, about 6 or 7 inches above your hat. That looks like a full backswing for a male pro or at least a 90% backswing. This is only natural. Being human, when our conscious brain thinks our extremities have gone exactly 3/4 back there is inevitably a bit of extra movement back and up created simply by momentum. By the same token, and this confirms your advice, when we, especially us amateurs who don't have the extreme coordination of a pro, think we are taking a full backswing, what really often happens is we unconsciously keep going longer, which all too often causes the left arm to bend and the club head to end up even past parallel. We didn't try to do that, it just happens. So I agree 100% with you, but would just say if you think 3/4 back, you will probably find if you take a video or your pro watches you, that you actually made a very nice, controlled full backswing. One other thing your video shows very, very clearly is critically important to making good contact. Watching that swing at 3:55-3:57 I see that on the backswing you post against your right leg, weight slightly on the inside of the sole, and straighten it to allow your hip to turn, and allow the left knee to bend in slightly. Then just before you reach the end or top of the backswing, you make a shift of your weight on to your left leg so that your left hip moves toward the target about 4 to 5 inches (see 3:57) while your head stays over the ball. This is not a spin of the hips to the left. It is just a straight relaxed shift toward the target. Sometimes it helps to think of it as almost gently falling toward the target. Your hips are still slightly turned back, your back is toward the target, and your right foot is flat on the ground, just barely beginning to roll on to the inside of the entire sole a fraction of a second before contact. Look at 3:58 - even AFTER contact your right foot is still on the inside of the entire sole. You don't get up on the right toe, knees together in the classic posture we are all instructed to get into until the swing is almost totally completed. Having your weight on the left leg is what enables the left hip to turn naturally without force, and the right knee to come up next to the left knee naturally. You illustrate that perfectly, it just takes pausing the swing several times to see since it all happens in a second. A common error pointed out by many of the pros like yourself I watch on excellent videos is that amateurs think that to rotate enough like videos showing pros with hips turned all the way toward the target, they need to spin their left hip forcefully early in the downswing. This usually happens while their weight is still on the right or back foot. And often they try to push up onto the toe of the right foot which results in the right knee shooting toward the ball. The end result is standing up and early extension, producing a top, a hook, or a slice depending on how hard your hands tried to release to rescue the shot. That weight shift, beginning before you end the backswing and start the downswing, is so critically important.

Distance comes from the speed of arms and hands, not from the power from turning the body. I saw Marcus Edblad emphasise this on his channel by hitting a ball over 300 yards whilst standing on one leg. The body turns to the target as it follows the hands and arms. If you lead by rotating the body and pulling the club down your hands will be forward of the ball leading to a slice every time. I don't rotate anymore, I just allow the body to turn to the target behind the hands and arms, and I now hit straighter and further by doing so.

Hell a good workout for people that would work is 3 sets of 12 pushups 3 sets of 25 sit ups 1 set of 20 body weight squats do a 10-15 minute lower back and hip stretch video and you'll shave 10 strokes off your game. If you're stiff you can't sync the body idc what you work on
