Here is a comparison between a 2000's Soldano SLO100 overdrive channel and the Synergy Soldano SLO module.
Both running through the same Two Notes Dave Friedman Collection Dynamic IR. The SLO is running through a Two Notes Captor X, while the Synergy SYN-1 is going through Two Notes Torpedo Wall Of Sound plugin with additional power amp simulation and Eq.

Great video, excellent comparison and top notch editing! I appreciate the work you put into this! They are so close to my ears that it doesn't really matter. Very much the same flavour. The little difference I can hear would probably be of the same magnitude with two SLOs just due to pot and component tolerances. Seems Synergy nailed it with this one. I'm working on a similar comparison between my Diezel Herbert head and the Herbert module and they sound quite different unlike this. Again, thanks for sharing!

pretty different how the EQ acts. SLO sounds more open and a bit bigger, i like what the knobs are doing more here than on the synergy.

Hi Luca, you're right and I can hear what you're saying but...will you hear a difference in the context of mixed guitars on an album? I don't think that I'd be able to hear it

Would love to see you revisit this idea by comparing the new solid state Soldano Mini - I wonder if it could be made to sound like the tube SLO with either some careful tweaks of the eq, or by running it through the power section of a tube amp so it’s not entirely solid state?

I've tried few Synergy modules in person, my friend owns couple of them (SLO modul, Friedman and Mesa Boogie modul) with Synergy power amp, through V30 speakers. To me, Soldano was the best out of those three mentioned. It had enough bass, there wasn't any lack of it. It's more in your face and bold sounding compared to Friedman which sound kinda "quiet" and "polished". Those frequencies doesn't stick out like in Soldano modul. Soldano modul had best response to guitar playing, those frequencies sound open and they cut through...really stimulating to play through it. I don't know what the deal was with Mesa Boogie modul, it was terrible. I was so desappointed, barelly could find some usable tones (i'm being honest here..that's my expirience with it, and i am sure that somebody else has found that Mesa really works for him)..especially because my brother has Mesa Boogie Studio preamp, so I kinda knew what to expect from Mesa, as far as pre-gain eq-ing with treble, middle and bass knobs and post-gain graphic eq. Studio Preamp is literary a beast in comparison to Synergy Mesa Boogie modul..so much more gain and right tones avaluable in there.

If you're talking about the iiCP, try the settings that Ola Englund uses in his demo video because he made it sound great.

the IICP module is what you're referring to....you need to drop the bass on it almost all the way (like the original MkIIC+ amp it's based on). The eq on those amps is not traditional like you'd expect. Same goes for the Bogner Uberschall...if you've ever played a real Uberschall, you'd know the EQ DEFINITELY does not work in the traditional sense. You dial-in amps like that with your EARS not your eyes...which, really you should be doing anyways with EVERY amp, if you ask me.

The iicp module is one of my favourites! Is absolutely killer! But you really need to do some research how to dial it in...just as the original Mesa iicp it's needs to be dialed in a not so obvious way. Once you learn how to use it it's amazing!

They sound exactly the same except the Synergy has no bass whatsoever. Do they have more bass with a real power amp?

I find the real SLO is a little light on the low end for my preference. I would have the depth knob mod if I owned one myself.

Of the 12 Synergy modules I have, its one of the best and thickest bass end tone, really is a nice module, and I run through a Fryette 2/90/2 and have very seldom needed more than 3 o clock, the HBE is the module that smacks but is missing low end, IMO

I have a syn 50 which has a "density" knob on the poweramp section which can get more than enough lowend. Every preamp I've tried so far sounds like the real deal when I've adjusted the presence and density knobs. I'm never buying another amp... but I am gonna buy more modules lol.

@@francismcfadden3305 I think the Density knob on the Syn-50 head is lacking. I was expecting it to really dial in a bigger bottom end but that's not really what it does. What it does is VERY mildly broadens the low-mids. That's my only complaint about the Synergy stuff....that Density knob needs to be modded to produce some ACTUAL low end.
