its funny how people have a different story in their head when listening to this song - their own stories of abusive relationships, unrequited love, not being accepted by your family, just pain in general. And we're all here listening to it and sharing it with other people, together.

I think the official meaning is about falling out of love with the person you’re engaged with. The whole song is talking about events which led up to the split, realizing they only got engaged out of societal pressure, and finalizing the split with lawyers. However, it’s still great to interpret the song in whatever way you want. That’s what songs are for. :)

Yes, this song was particularly painfully relatable for someone who had gone through so much before like me. But i believe how everyone has a different story behind them, and thus we shouldn't judge anyone without getting to know them.
