the biggest part of systema's success is the mental state of your body imo. Starting with a good night's sleep, partying less and all the way to meditation, could, perhaps, help you, if you have that kind of lifestyle. It's a big commitment, but definetely one to consider, to craft your skills better, not to mention your whole way of life.

OK, I had heard a lot about this. I have more than a little bit of experience in many different styles, mostly Taijutsu, you can relate it to holistic Jujutsu. What I see here I cannot put a complete mark of effectiveness as a lot look to involve nerve strikes, which only look easy if you have trained years. But the basic fundamentals of motion, the redirection, the simple applications of fluent motion counter to the function of the body (skeletal, ligament, and nerve) are indeed accurate and a lot of what I saw I have either seen before, or have seen formal examples where this is a realistic application. Anyone taking SDF life or death serious should easily see the obvious real applications, that they cut right through the "Kata" concept and hit at the core. Basically the principle I see works. And Cap Obvious, how dull can you be to see this as complex and impossible at full speed? It is designed exactly for full speed and full power! What glaring fact that slipped by you is that their attack at full speed and intent is the power of the art. But all of you that think this is BS, keep thinking it. have now seen it twice, period. So in about 25 minutes, sitting on my ass, I have seen more than you could ever even think of doubting. What a shame. I am not saying this is the best method there is, no method is (tribute to Bruce). But for what I know, this was the intro to graduate training I have looked for 9 years. This is what I thought Aikido would be.

Very true. As you said though, some of them DO use it, so the point is the same. But systema is very much about personal development and style, so in a way it works if YOU make it work, just take some core techniques and principles. Which I'm sure you can.

thats the biggest part of being effective in a fight, not getting caught moving too late. there is so much room for improvement in that kind of recognizing the threat and reaction time work in most of us. systema guys probably know the "now" drill which helps me alot with this. training with students of vlads I can tell you, they are weaponized.

Yes videos. Systema is a martial art and like all martial arts you need to understand them, there's also the need to understand the difference between Martial arts, self defence and a street fight. I've known Systema to work firsthand and i'm very sceptical of any style that claims to have self defence applications

Well that is why you pay attention and focus instead of being overconfident always thinking that since you have a guard up then nothing can happen to you. You analyze the problem/attack and counter/deflect it. Like in any martial art.
@FPSaabaranov
@FPSaabaranov 11 жыл бұрын
In systema, if you understand russian (because i do as i was born there) the systema instructor says that you move in to any kind of attack hence the "best type of defence is attack" so you are already prepared to move in the second you see an attack. Then when you move in, a simple jab to the jam is enough to befuddle your attacker and to finish him by pushing him off balance as your hips are moved in thus you can apply more weight into a push/attack. How many hours do you spend gaming?

Also, in Taekwon-Do there are two styles of fighting, self defence and sparring so sparring is for competition and the art itself whilst self defence is focused on protecting yourself from grabs, chokes you name it so Taekwon-Do doesn't use many techniques from sparring or patterns but it does use some and adapts each one to the situation so that you have an easy, quick get-away. Oh and in s-d you do not have a guard up that often because you wouldn't even have enough time to. Surprise is key..

Fair enough. Have you tried traditional/japanese Jiu jitsu? You could always incorperate your BJJ into the systema.
@Hujjee
@Hujjee 11 жыл бұрын
Yeah JJJ was actually the first martial art I got into but I found that the lack of sparring didn't quite prepare me for the reality of fighting. You can never know how you'll react in a fight until you get hit or involved in a physical altercation with someone. Also, the small joints manipulation and the wristlocks won't work on everybody since nobody has the same level of flexibility. I really prefer Brazilian Jiu Jitsu because it incorporates self-defense techniques that really works.

Also, on the subject of knife fighting, you mention that you won't always have one and your attacker (hopefully!) won't have one. Obviously stabbing or cutting someone with a knife is going to end up with you in a lot of trouble, but that brings me back to the situation point. I imagine guys in the spetznaz, would have to be trained to defend against and use knives, as well as various other weapons. do you think they should abandon Systema and take up BJJ for weapon defence?

If something seemed to work, then all of those points on how peoples minds are tricked into believing that they a true martial art then you yourself a re a victim of that, as you said. Oh and FYI you can kill a person with just one finger, just thought you'd be interested in that weakness, because this system WORKS.

Generally said, its a demo, maybe halfway choreographed. When you get into real violent situations, think you may did before, attackers tend to project the strikes because of adrenaline and anger, it makes them predictable to a certain degree. And if they wanna hit you hard, most of them will probably do the wide swing to generate enough speed/power. Not talking about professional boxers. If you happen to mess with them, its a bit more difficult...next post I'm about the spot in the video...:)

bout is impossible to predict. but to force the enemy to fall into the void with his fist in the attack possible. I will try to explain. if the enemy shoots and gets into the unit, there is a stop of one stroke and begins behind him a second blow. if the enemy hit will go into space, (it does not block in any case have tactility. make a block in karate from a blow to the top of the head, but to change the plane of a roof of the house at which the flow of rain drops on the ground.) and is the fist reaches this emptiness, the brain does not give impetus to the beginning of a new strike. this little sekunada will give you time to answer, and you'll have to attack the enemy, and your opponent will be forced to defend themselves.
@overture13

you say Martial Arts that DO work and martial arts that DON'T work. This is a bit of a silly comment, it's far dependent on the practitioner than the style. The situation is also important. How well do you think Wrestling would work against multiple armed attackers? What if someone wanted to learn to use swords/knives/staffs and various other weapons...would you recommend they take up BJJ?
@FPSaabaranov
@FPSaabaranov 11 жыл бұрын
I never said that I wouldn't run if there was a man with a knife attacking if you don;t have an option though, blocking a knife is useless so having a guard up isn't necessary because as you said the person would cut your hands into ribbons, which is why the systema practitioners don't have a guard and instead prepare their hands, arms body etc. do move away from the attack and step in to disarm or immobilize.

Oh well thank you for the kind compliment of accepting TKD, but I never said that ANYTHING is a lethal system, a martial art is a way to protect yourself, and yes there are some that may be a little bit difficult to understand/master so yes some do have faults, but I would still like to get an email in the near future with the dozen (or did you say there were DOZENSSSSSSS of articles, so how about at least 24 articles, tough challenge aint it, but you should handle it.)

As a great man once said: "Attack is the best for of defence" so you step inwards like the systema people, and then you have the kick which is useless at such a short range so you can simply have it go past you, push it away if necessary so that the muscles in their groin are stretched thus they are losing balance due to unforeseen attacks and a uncomfortably stretched leg. Some people (like you) need to pay attention to something they're criticizing as what i'm saying is shown in the video.

If the person comes, and sees that you do martial arts and that you're ready to fight him, he WILL attack you harder, faster, more intensely so simply looking baffled might be an advantage to have them overconfidently step into a fight with you. And if by the force you mean either saying "don't come near me" or "I don't want any trouble" then yes I would do that.

***** If we only talk about "Value", then yes. But I clearly stated Human Value, so we are talking about objective values. Not opinion or consensus, you may not agree with that premises but then again it has nothing to do with my original comment. How can you *not* understand the difference between a popular fighting style and an effective one?!? A popular fighting style *can* be effective, but just because a fighting style *is* popular does not make it effective.

That's the point about Systema, it's about remaining calm and being able to take punches. It's not too much the techniques no waddam sayin?^^ Boxing is great as I discover myself but I think Systema can help,hitting even harder.They learn to hit the vulnerable parts of the body and use leverage and balance breaking.If you practice BJJ or else you certainly know these principles.So it's not that unfamiliar. I intend, as to the systema instructors/partitioners to do what is in the video watch it again and see. After I pointed out that they could have a knife you said that (which is what he wants if he just pulls a knife on you and doesnt demand anything, without covering his face) so your obligations on anything to do with a knife were proven wrong so you simply dropped the argument on that side. And a kick, lets say a front kick would be easily deflected, no need to grab it, as you see in the video
