The following TV model numbers have a high rate of failure with the TV panel. There are some symptoms that a TV can show that can lead people to believe the problem could be with the t-con board. If your panel is bad, and you replace the t-con board, your TV panel will damage the t-con board.
In this video we will show how to test a component on your existing t-con board to help determine if there is a problem with the TV panel.
Here is where the component is located on the t-con board.
As we take a closer look, we will identify a few of the test points.
Here we have the drain.
Here we have the gate.
And here we have the source.
There are a few different ways to test the component with our multimeter. We can check the DC voltage, check the continuity, and run a diode check.
Here are the DC voltage measurements that we should see on a working t-con board with video. I will start by powering on the TV and put my negative lead onto a ground area. Then I will test the drain by putting the positive lead of my multimeter to the drain pin. This should read about fifteen and a half volts (15.5).
Next, I will test the source pin, which should be zero.
Then I will test the gate which should be at three and a half volts, (3.5).
If you test all of these points on this component and they all show as zero or next to zero, then the board is bad and has most likely been damaged by the TV panel.
We have found that about 75% of these bad boards have been damaged by the panel.
To run the diode test, be sure your TV is unplugged, switch your multimeter to the diode setting and then place your negative lead onto the drain and then positive lead onto the source. If you get a zero or next to zero reading, then the component is damaged and the board is bad, thus meaning that the panel is most likely the cause of the problem.
We will now show the same test on a board that is good. The meter shows a reading of .42, if we removed this good board from the TV and tested it, it would show closer to .52.
These readings show that the board is good.
We will now test the board in continuity mode on the multimeter. I will switch my multimeter to the correct setting, and then put my probes on the drain and source. My meter is showing6, and sometimes it might show 4 or 5, but basically, if there is any number displayed, that means the board is bad.
When we run the same test on a good board, the meter says OL, which means the board is good.
It is possible that if you have a bad T-con board, that replacing the board will fix the problem. However, if this specific component that we just showed how to test, shows as bad, then there is about a 75% chance that your TV panel is bad. This component always goes bad when the panel goes bad.

HI, I have Vizio E70-E3 model, first few of the LED strips went bad and I had picture and sound with dark areas on the screen when watching the TV. I replaced all the LED strips but now I am not getting any picture nor the sound. I need some help to determine whether it's a T-Con or main driver board and I have no idea how to do that.

If the diode test (drain and source) measures .43, but the drain measurement while the tv powers on very low does that still mean the panel is bad? Dealing with an OLED where its power drops before it turns on. I’ve replaced the t-con, mainboard and power supply and nothing seems to help.

On my T Con board there is a white block with a stamp QB411V . Also printed on board , model: 30/37/42/47/55 FHD TM240 Ver 0.4 Is there a replacement board for this T Con board. Checked fuse, it is OK

Hi, let’s see if you can help me. My TCL Roku TV started showing a black cloud on one side of the tv then it started showing color lines. I changed the tcon board for a new one. The lines stoped showing but now I only see a white screen. No image.

Hi.. Ive just been given a 50inch jvc fire tv with lines horizontal and vertical, with the picture coming back and then flickering to lines and so on. Ive disconnected one ribbon and one half of the screen doesn't flicker, then when I plug the other side in the flickering returns. Ive swapped the ribbons across to rule out the ribbon and I get the same flickering result. My question is regarding the said failed chips that you tested, do they fail without a deeper seated issue? Like poorly made for example? Assuming these parts cost peanuts to produce in China... Im tempted to just throw another Tcon in and take a chance. Cheers

Hi, i have a problem with a Philips 42PFL7685H/12: after putting on the TV you can see the Philips logo and after about 10 minutes the TV works fine with no problems. When its hot in the area the time is a lot shorter. I have already replaced the T-con board (6807-0309c) after that, the TV give only black and grey vertical stripes, for ever..

It depends. The components can fail. Sometimes the failed part is due to a deeper issue.

Hello, I need help for Samsung LE32D550: the image periodically shakes and gently flashes. When it does not shake it all is ok. The TV is on service due to the vertical tape on the screen (no picture), this is solved by removing the damage to the T-CON flat cable!

I have a Samsung tv and the t-con diode keeps burning out. I've tried 3 boards. I didn't know what to do and for an experiment I tried powering it up with the diode removed and the TV turned on and it seems to be working fine. I wonder if it will cause problems in the future. only time will tell

Samson 60 in smart tv power up blk screen, 15 20 sec half screen slowly comes on very grainy then 2nd side all vertical lines slowly gets better 1st side gets dark after 2 3 mins turn off power turn back on then excellent seems like 1 or both sides have to warm up. but wont get good until power off then on.

Hello, I like yours videos, have problems whit my westinghouse tv 55' the image freeze every 2 second and come back for 2 second and freeze again, the sound still working good during this problem also when freeze have some vertical lines, I have opened and the T-Con make sound like buzzer or similar when freeze, What do you thing? 75% chance that the Panel is bad. But no defined statement on what actually happens to make the Panel bad. Is it a mechanical issue (like a cracked Panel)? Is it the bonding failure of electrical connections to the Panel Itself? Is the Panel drawing too much current for some reason?? I wish that this relationship between the TCon and the Panel had been discussed in better detail.

I did this test on my t con board and its good... so what would be the fix for my tv? LG 60UF7300 the menus are clear but when I try to connect anything to the hdmi or any inputs its snowy, I can hear the audio I just cannot see a display. I have already purchased and tried a used known good main board but I still have the same problem. any help appreciated that can help me test my tv further to find the problem thanks

Check if your LEDS are working. 50% time its the fauly LED. You have to test the panel with a flashlight. If you can see the dim images moving them its definiately your leds which have gone bad.

If you know how to use a multimeter, you can check the supply input coming into the t-con board..then check the supply output to the lcd panel..just be careful ayt..own risk.

I have repaired about a dozen sharp paneled vizios with this bad panel issue by cutting the buffering chips off of the bad side of the panel with a razor knife after replacing the tcon. one of these sets gets used a lot in my bar and has been working fine for over 2 years since this repair. one out of the dozen has come back as failed afterwards.

Thank you for your great input. I decided to unplug half the T-Con connection and now this made right half of the panel work. Could this be a Tcom or cabling or panel problem? At least I now know the power supply is good and half the the tcom is good as well as the Logic main board as I have all menu controls. What do think I should do ?

@@frankbarbaro5447 At this point with your results, I would cut the flexible ribbon and IC buffer chips off the SIDE of the lcd panel that doesnt work. you have nothing to lose You may actually be able to see which chip failed but you need to remove all from the bad side not just one.

it is lso possible the damage to the lcd panel is on the board attached to the panel where the tcon ribbon plugs in. in that case I do not know of a way to save the panel. I do not believe its a tcon issue your having. could be ribbon cable, you can try cleaning the contacts.

Have a Samsung Smart Tv model number UN65H7100AFXZA version TH01 and one day when watching TV it just goes blank with no sound...tried turning back on with remote but no response from TV...I unplugged TV to try and reset...when I turned power on Smart TV comes on screen then goes away and I am left with blue screen that looks almost black and dark. Mark Cob Hey this is old but I'm confirming that if the TCon board is bad, that replacing the motherboard and the TCon might NOT fix it because the "panel" means other components as well that could be the issue.

SONY BRAVIA, KDL-55EX640. TV was working fine till one day i turned on, had normal video and audio for a few minutes but suddenly got distorted picture, then fine vertical color or black/white lines, then pitch black screen while the power on light (green) remained on. I tried shutting it off, right after, but wouldn't respond to remote. Finally, i tried unplugging it, waited at least a minute, trying to reset it before plugging it back on, but the green light remained on, no picture and still unresponsive to remote. I kept trying unplugging it and plugging it back on, using the remote, and hand controls on side of TV to shut the green light off and have the stand by light come on but wouldn't work. Now, literally, the TV has its own mind, the stand by or power on light come on whenever they feel like it. Inconsistent response to remote when powering on/off. When it decides to turn-on it has normal video and audio but short after it makes a loud alarm like sound then the screen shows distorted picture with fine vertical color or black/white lines then picture goes black . Then it turns on/off on its own, with long intervals, then it cycles again.

Love your videos! Having trouble with a Vizio and want to see what you think. It's a Vizio M420SL Led Smart tv. Symptoms: I can power on and see the Vizio logo with backlights just fine. After the "boot logo" disappears the screen then starts flickering boxed blue, red, and green all over the panel. I tested the Tcon board as you did in this video and my results are odd. With power applied and the screen on, I'm getting next to nothing in voltage on any of my pins. I'm thinking bad panel, until I pulled the board and tested it with no power just like you did in be video and it reads completely operational. I've tested my voltages in stby and on to each board and everything I reading the normal range. I did identify two bad diodes in parallel with each other (SB560s) on my secondary power supply (SMPS) as they both read open in both bias'. Going to swap them out with two new ones but wanted to see if you could identify anything you've seen caused by this? Thanks in advance!

But that's only where it is located on THAT SHARP TCon board.... how does one go about identifying this component on other brands of TCON board? I've got a Samsung 46" TV's TCON sitting in front of me that causes the entire TV to constantly reboot (Power on, Samsung "warble" sound, power off, power on and repeat) when the ribbon is connected between it and the main board. Even when disconnected from the display panel it still causes the TV to reboot constantly... but unplug this TCON from the main board and the TV comes on and stays on (though there is no picture of course). I'm on the fence, spend a little money to try a replacement TCON board that might or might not solve this TV's problem (and might be ruined itself) or just go ahead and pack it all off to the recycling center.... ?
