Thanks so much for mentioning this, Gene! I'll have to give this a shot when I get home. I searched for an answer to this, Weeks before I made the video but was unable to find a simple solution. There was a youtube video demonstrating how to essentially hack into the gateway and turn it off, but it definitely would not have been for the faint of heart, so I didn't include it in the video. Again, thanks for taking the time to mention this, Gene- I really appreciate it!!

The problem is, A lot of people are so used to hearing about gigabit and multigig services that they feel as though it is necessary to have that in order to do things like play online games or stream in 4K, but the reality is, in most cases, 300 is MORE than enough to do all of those thing very smoothly. Thanks for the review! My wife and I have been with T-Mobile cellular for 2+ years. Last week T-Mobile Home Internet became available in our area. I've been a satisfied Comcast/Xfinity subscriber for 38 years. Our 30 devices (including 4 TVs, 8 Wyze cams/plugs, 2 iPhones, 2 iPads, 2 Macs, etc.) and a 3,800 square foot house, Xfinity has us at 1gigs speed. Probably overkill, but I am concerned that T-Mobile Home Internet can handle everything as well as Xfinity. I'm considering the 14-day free trial, but not sure it's worth the effort. Comments?
@NigelWorkman
@NigelWorkman 3 ай бұрын
Hello, Jim! This is a great question, and I think one of the most important considerations will be: What wireless network are you currently using? Is it the provided equipment from Xfinity or your own network? Switching to T-Mobile would require the additional purchase of a mesh network (if you don't already have one) as the provided router would require extending to cover that square footage. I also have a 3800 square feet home, and the provided router isn't emitting enough signal to cover the area adequately. Now, back to your original question: Can T-Mobile keep up with your 40 devices? Unfortunately, this also depends on how strong the T-Mobile infrastructure is in your area. I have read comments from folks who have reported speeds anywhere from 50 Mbps to speeds nearing gigabit. I'm getting around 700 Mbps from the tower, so I have more than enough to keep my 55+ devices working extremely well along with my Nest WiFi Pro network. At this point, I really do think you would have to just jump into the 14-day trial and see what the capacity is in your area. If you are getting anywhere in the 500-600 Mbps range, you will be totally fine! One last thing to keep in mind: Due to the nature of the tech, you will be competing with cell users on this network, and from what I've read, they do prioritize cell traffic over home internet. This hasn't affected me since there are very few T-Mobile customers in my area, but this may not be the case for you. I think that about does it, Jim! Hope this was helpful. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask-I'll get back faster next time! ✌🏼🤟🏼

Thanks for so the details, Nigel! I’ll give T-Mobile some more thought before I doing the trial. Currently Xfinity’s Gateway is able to cover my whole house and all my devices, even without a mesh system.

@@jmcafee6564That’s pretty impressive, Jim! The layout of my house doesn’t allow for a central location for the router so I have nodes all over the place LOL. Glad to hear yours is working so well. Unless you stand to save a ton of money, maybe sticking with xfinity is the move? I plan on trying out google fiber as soon as it becomes available in my neighborhood, but will certainly stick with T-Mobile until then. Take care Jim, and let me know what you end up doing if you have think about it! ✌🏼🤟🏼

Hey, Mploof! This is something I am starting to hear from quite a few of my viewers, as well as other reviewers. It has been roughly 3 months since my service with them began, and so far, I haven't had any noticeable performance issues. On the other hand, I do believe that congestion (or lack of) plays a huge role in my experience so far. Not only is T-Mobile the least used network in my area, but a recent upgrade in the network has me operating under the best possible circumstances. As they continue to grow in my area, I have no doubt that at some point, I will feel the effects, but I will remain hopeful that they have beefed up the network enough to at least give me a couple of solid years. I tend to be overly optimistic though, so we'll see, LOL. Thanks for stopping by and mentioning this, Mploof. I'm sure this info will help others out there! Take care and have a happy holiday! ✌🏼🤟🏼

My son lives in the same area and lives right my the tower and he gets amazing speeds in the a.m. (300+), but also feels a huge drop at night. TMO has told me straight up that they deprioritize home internet at night in favor of phone service.

@@RonnieRockafella Hey Ronnie, thanks for adding to this conversation. I was thinking initially that most of the folks who were experiencing these drops would likely be in more populated areas with more network congestion, but it looks like @mploof is being deprioritized as well, but in a "very rural" area as he describes it. Makes me question why I have been having such a good experience in my area? I think one of my advantages may be the small footprint of T-Mobile as an actual cell provider in my area, hence, no noticeable drops in the evening. 9 out of 10 folks you talk to out here are verizon customers, and the 10th is generally ATT. I'm not as confidant that these speeds will continue, but i will keep my fingers crossed that it does. If they end up letting me down, fortunately there are a growing number of options for us consumers, which was never the case until recently- I am thankful for that competition and hope that will motivate these companies to do what is necessary to give us the service we deserve. If not- on to the next!! Thanks again for stopping by and leaving a comment, Ronnie! I really appreciate it! ✌🏼🤟🏼

I went to my local T-mobile store and walked out with my phone back up but one of these as a two week trail period test. It's a lot cheaper and faster than Spectrum, AT&T and Verizon which is not available where I am in Texas. My total bill for the first month for everything is $70 then goes to $120. Affordable for phone and home internet. When I started it the device kept powering off and on the first few days. Maybe downloading updates? It has been stable and quick recently. Hope they don't raise the price unless they give better service.

Hello Vijay! I have not experienced any throttling whatsoever. Just to put this into perspective, I am using roughly 3 terabytes of data per month and have not had any issues with data caps/throttling. I would say you are pretty safe to give it a shot, but I think there may be other factors at play here. One of the most important examples would be- How much congestion is on the particular cell tower you are feeding from. I happen to be on the outskirts of town, with a very small amount of tmobile subscribers near me (for now). If you are in the middle of a big metropolitan area where tmobile is a popular carrier, you may have a different experience. For instance, a commenter below is in a very rural area, which I would imagined isn't a very congested network- but is experiencing extreme drops in speed in the evening. I suppose a good question would be, what is the actual capacity of the network in a given area. They may have built it out very small not expecting many folks to sign up, but ended up with more than expected. Then there are folks like me in a reasonably populated area that are having a great experience with no sign of deprioritization....YET! If you are one of us that is lucky enough to be in a area where the capacity outweighs the demand, I think you will be really happy! At this point, there is just no way of knowing what areas are good and which are not without having a lot more info. I do hope you are one of the lucky ones, Dang!! been debating this for months its been a hard decision cause we arent saving that much 20 compared to your 150. but thats literally a 10x speed increase wtf lol if its the same. but it doesnt matter if its unreliable i didnt know their was a 14 daay trial period i gotta give this a shot

I was in the same boat, Omega. To be honest with you, I don't think I would have pulled the trigger if it weren't for the 2-week trial. This house, as with most other homes in this modern era, relies so heavily on reliable internet that I would not have been willing to let it all fall apart for the sake of a discounted rate. Fortunately, the service does work well in my area, and hopefully, you will be able to say the same. Please share an update with us if you end up going for it. Would love to know how it works out for you! Thanks for stopping by and commenting, Omega- I really appreciate it!!✌🏼🤟🏼

I'm sorry to hear that, Jorge. I have been hearing that this can be an issue for some. I should start keeping track of the particular areas where service has been sub-par and keep an ongoing list in the comments so potential customers know what areas to avoid subscribing to. Would you mind sharing your approximate location, Jorge? No worries if not! Thanks for stopping by to share your story, Jorge-I really appreciate it! Best of all, your info may save others the hassle! Take care and happy holidays!

T-Mobile uses CGNAT. Hence no port forwarding. The upload speed is also really slow.
@NigelWorkman
@NigelWorkman 7 ай бұрын
Hello, Joy! I have heard the term port forwarding before but never bothered to look into it until now. I can see how this could be a problem in some cases, and I'm glad you mentioned it. As far as the upload speed is concerned, I suppose it depends on what you consider to be slow. With my previous ISP (Cox with Gigablast), I would average 30-40 Mbps up. With T-Mobile, I'm generally getting over 100 Mbps up, so to some of us, it's actually faster. I know some providers have equal up and down, but that has never been an option for me, unfortunately. Now I am located in an area where I don't expect much network congestion, so it might be the case that I am just extremely lucky, whereas those who are in a more populated area are experiencing quite the opposite. If I could add anything to this video, I would definitely talk a little about how my experience with the service is likely based on the most optimal circumstances. Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to comment, Joy! Take care and have a happy new year!

@@NigelWorkman You are confusing upload with download speed. T-Mobile only 'promise' upload speed of no more than 30Mbps and typically only around 10Mbps. I tried T-Mobile Home Internet and was getting almost 200Mbps download with only around 15Mbps upload. Latency is still not great with 40+ms. I will stay with my fiber optics line which has latency of around 10ms. The last straw for my is the lack of ability to configure the gateway (Model: TMO-G4AR) that was provided by T-Mobile and the terrible technical service thereafter.
@NigelWorkman
@NigelWorkman 7 ай бұрын
Hello again! I know it sounds like I am mixing uploading and download, but I am not, lol. I am getting around 600 down when hardwired to the gateway, 300 to 400 down when on my wireless network, and 100 up on average from either hardwire or wirelessly connected. It might just be that I am fortunate enough to be operating under the most optimum circumstances, which may not happen very often. I’m sorry you did not have a good experience with it, and I totally understand how frustrating that can be. If my situation at all resembled yours, I certainly would have kept my fiber optic as well. We’ll see how the network congestion over the next couple of years affects my current performance. T-Mobile is not particularly popular out here, so I’m hoping that even if the network does become more congested over time, it will be negligible, but that’s just the optimist in me, lol.

I’ve been really impressed so far! As it happens, I have really good service in this area and not much congestion, so, pretty ideal circumstances. It’s hard to sign off on this 100% due to the fact that others may be in a wildly different set of circumstances as far the congestion is concerned, which I think would be the main detriment and potential deal breaker. I’ll hope for the best cause this guy wants to keep that discount rolling!!

@theradiantchild I feel ya man- My ping with Cox was usually around 20-30ms, and with T-mobile it's typically been 2x that. With that said, my experience with COD and GTA didn't feel any different on cox than it does now on T-mobile. On the other hand, I am not particularly serious/competitive when it comes to multiplayer so I would take my gaming assessment with a grain of salt LOL.@@theradiantchild If you are curious about it, give that 2 week trial a go! There really is no commitment and they will have that gateway to you in a couple days. If it doesn't meet your expectations, send it back- easy peasy my friend! Certainly! Fiber optic connections do offer a level of reliability and speed that's hard to match. It's great to hear you found a solution that fits your needs. I'm curious, how has the overall experience been with the cable company and the eero extenders? Switching providers can sometimes bring about challenges, so I'm interested to know if you encountered any hiccups during the transition. It's always valuable to hear about different experiences with internet setups, especially when it comes to finding the right balance between speed, reliability, and personal preferences. If there's anything specific you've noticed or learned in the process, feel free to share! thanks for stopping by and taking the time to comment- I really appreciate it! ✌🏼🤟🏼

I have had other carriers, and have always returned to the local company. We have a good size house, and I can get reception in the garage and outdoor shed. They normally charge $5.00 for every extra Eeros, so buying them will pay for itself in less than a year.
@NigelWorkman

@@angiemperaza8694 it’s good to have options, but I suppose it’s all for not if the options don’t provide a comparable experience. Eero is a great mesh network so I’m sure you will have no issues there. Google is building up the infrastructure for fiber in my area as well as cox. Not sure if I’d care to check the cox service out, but I will absolutely be trying out google fiber when it’s available. It will be hard to pry me away from the 30 bucks a month though 😂

I am jealous of those speeds. I have had T-Mobile home internet for about a yaear and the speeds were around 100, better than from what I had with century link. Starting in October the speeds dropped down to 5 to 20, with once and a while getting 40 maybe 50. As of a week ago for over an hour it just dropped out completely. I keep being told that there is a tower since November that needs service. As of last week I am now being told that the service will fluctuate from time to time. So I am not happy with their service but not a lot of options in my area.

Jeez, Titan- Im really sorry to hear this. The more I hear about these bad experiences, the more I worry about the future of this service. Are they just jumping into areas where they clearly don't have the infrastructure to support the potential customers? I just don't see how they can be blowing it so hard. Those speeds are terrible!! Im shocked that they are just basically telling you to live with it- this is bad business and I hope you have some other options become available quick! They don't deserve your business, Titan. What a shame Thanks for stopping by and sharing your experience. I hope you are able to find a resolution to your issues asap. Take care ✌🏼🤟🏼

Hello, Darrin- thanks for stopping by. Sorry to hear that your area doesn’t have as good of service as mine. The tough part about doing a review of such a thing is, experiences can vary greatly depending on your area. I did mention that I was in a pretty optimal set of circumstances which like accounts for why mine is so good. Many people have great service and unfortunately many people don’t. As far as my relationship with T mobile…..pretty sure they are unaware of my existence- wish they did though! 😂 Take care and I hope your service improves!! ✌🏼🤟🏼

Hey gamelauncher! It seems crazy to me that they would even bother rolling out home internet in areas where they clearly do not have the capability to support the additional bandwidth requirements, which will be tenfold the daily usage of a cell customer. If they were able to provide service at the level that I am experiencing, you'd be a happy camper. However, it is becoming more clear to me, as I read these comments, that I am but a small percentage of folks who are quite lucky to be seeing the speeds that am. I hope they manage to get their act together and give you the service you deserve, gamelauncher. Thanks for taking the time to comment and best of luck to you in your future bandwidth endeavors. ✌🏼🤟🏼
