A video slideshow of my DIY 'TOAH' open baffle build with sound demos.
Total cost for drivers and parts was $420 for the pair. About half of that was in the crossovers. You could probably save $100? with cheaper crossover components. I just decided to step up a notch on this budget build.

Glad I came across this, I have a similar project idea using open baffle dual 12"s and searching for appropriate/affordable woofers. I'm using an active crossover, the minidsp 2x4hd to apply eq/phase adjustment to each woofer independently to play nice with my room

Agreed, the 4ohm version will balance the impedance, but they are more than double the cost.

I wonder if GR Research could make a better crossover that would solve the tone and timbre problems. The demos sounded pretty good to me.

I'm sure Danny could. At 65lbs each, it would cost more to ship one to GR Research than it cost to build them. It's setup so I can still tweak it in the future. The fun continues.

Donnie, just a question. Where do you get your crossover components from? I'm building a center channel right now and I'm thinking about parts Express. Thoughts?

Why not go separate amps and have each driver independently amped. You can then tailor EQ to each driver. Eliminate the crossover. You can use a vst EQ so you can get pretty fancy.

I apologize, but 86dB is not a "high sensitivity". That's a cleaning sponge but not a high sens driver -) You need to push 16W where a real high sens driver will be satisfied with 1W

Measurements are not 1 watt at 1 meter, just at 1 meter. I did not have the equipment to set 1 watt. Just trying to get the frequency curve better. The real sensitivity is probably higher because of my amp settings. A little volume equated to loud SPL's.
