T.O.P is the 1st underground rapper in KPOP. Since his debut in 2006, many talented underground rappers started debuting as kpop idols (Block B's Zico, BTOB Minhyuk, BAP Younguk, Winner Mino etc). Before 2006, kpop idols were looked down by the general public and khiphop artists (that idols are "money-making-company-produced" products) instead of artists. T.O.P wanted to break that stigma. The huge success of BIGBANG, proved to the general public that IDOLS can make their own music and be this talented in rapping as TOP. So that's why he is referring to being ORIGINAL. Also TOP is a big fan of ART (he is a big art collector) so the whole music video is about DADAism - a movement in art based on deliberate irrationality and negation of traditional artistic values (that's why there are a lot of confusing things used for mv). Ah TOP... My ultimate bias. He is a member of BIGBANG. He has had a huge impact on the rapping in kpop over the years for sure. The first underground rapper turned into an idol turned into an actor turned into a true artist. All five members are legends as individuals and even more so as BIGBANG. I'm not sure if you're gonna read this but you were reading the lyrics from Genius and often you have highlighted words ( like "Pinot Noir" "Basquiat" "Somelier", etc) and if you click on them in the same page you will get an explination (they tend to be acurate). T.O.P is known for his taste in arts and a lot of time in his songs he chooses to make a lot of mentions so many words would go over people's knowledge at first watch/listen. Also it has already been said but: T.O.P is a member of BigBang debuted (with them) 2006 but before that he was an underground rapper in Korea (probably 16-18yo), so when he says "the real one is here" he ain't lying. Back in 2013 he was talking about the upcoming rappers within Kpop but you can also talk about nowday rappers/kpop rappers.

This is one of my favorite MVs in kpop (ever!!) and it's a really under appreciated one because people think it's just a super wierd video. T.O.P. enjoys a lot of art so this MV is referencing a lot of the art movement called Dadaism (which also contributes to the title [he's a genius]) , he even has a reference to Salvador Dali. And it's just a well write song as well-- I'm always sad that T.O.P. doesnt have more songs out there but yeah a rare genius p.s. i almost forgot!!!!!!!!!!! also a reference to space oddyssey!!!!!!!! so good

I'm very late to this reaction and I see a lot of comments about how TOP is the OG rapper-in-boy-bands legend, etc. I don't know how many people have also mentioned that TOP is well known for being a big lover of art (he makes references to artists frequently) and leans into the weird. Dadaism was an avant-garde art movement that was all about challenging norms, defying classical classification of art and interpretation, etc., and I will always love the surrealist visual and audio elements to this MV for playing with the feel of that movement.

The MV was heavily inspired by Dada/Dadaism and Salvatore Dali (Salvatore Dali wears his mustache upside down which TOP also does in the MV). This MV is basically a mix of contemporary art and Old fashioned art. Dada was a movement of the European avant-garde in eary 20th century. It was a development in reaction to WWI. Dada consisted of artists who rejected the logic, reason and aestheticism of modern capitaism society. Instead expressing nonsense, irrationality and anti-bourgoise protest in their works was first. In short, Dadaism was a PROVOCATION against the capitaistic society after WWI. While Salvador Dalí was not part of the Dada movement, their ideas shaped his work. Like the Dadaists, Dalí's work seeks to PROVOCATE (like TOP's MV): 1. The baby: Dali did a painting called "Baby Map of the World". It is a giant baby’s head with countries and axis through it. The painting symbolises that children are the future of the world. Top is basically alluding that the youth is the future of rap. 2. The atomic explosion: Dali created many works of art surrounding this subject expressing his horror on these bombs. One of them was the Three Sphinxes of Bikini. 3. Zebra: The Zebra Cavalier by Salvatore Dali Also, when TOP mentions “I’m the rap Basquiat”, this is in reference to Jean-Michel Basquiat. One of his paintings, a black skull with red and yellow sold for around $110M making it one of the most expensive paintings ever sold. At 5:24, when the Whanki Foundation copyright appears, is a painting of Kim Whanki, Korea's pioneering abstract art artist. TOP is his great nephew. A sommelier is basically a wine expert. Becoming a sommelier is notoriously hard, with the exams having a low pass rate. I believe there are only 262 master sommeliers in the world right now.
