Great to find this video. I discovered today that I was loosing fluid from this very spot. I ordered the flange hopefully it comes with a fresh o ring as that’s presumably all that really needs to be replace. Thanks as always for your help. This van would be tough to maintain without your videos. 🙏

The plastic flanges deteriorate/ deform over time... so it's always best to replace the flange & o-ring at the same time.

I have been tying to replace this same coolant flange on my ev but can’t seem to get the new one inserted all the way. Seems to be a real tight fit. Any suggestions there? Maybe grease on the insert sleeve?

Make sure that the bore is clean. Use a mirror for close inspection or take a video with your phone up close to the hole. Once you are sure the bore is clean, use a bit of sand paper, wrap it around the flange and twist the flange a few times. The sandpaper will remove a bit of plastic from the flange... then test fit the flange in the bore. Repeat sanding & test fitting till the flange enters the bore and is "fully seated". Depending on the flange manufacturer... flanges are made from a mold of a mold or a mold of a flange. Resulting in size variations from the factory part.

The bottom of my 93 2.5l is a mess. The side of the oil pan where meets up near the transmission. I always have oil hanging off those, I think they are the transmission mounting bolts. Are there any certain areas up there that are known to cause this leak?

@@EXOVCDS i have this sort of problem too. there seems to be some leak around the transmission mounting bolts AND the seal where you show a repair in the video. if the crankshaft seal were gone would there be a drop in transmission fluid too? AND where can i get a new o ring seal that you replaced in your video?

@@jamessullivan1648 crankshaft seal will cause oil level to go down. Standard or automatic transmission? Engine oil, standard transmission gear oil and automatic transmission fluid all smell different. The colors are also different, but can look similar with age. Clean the engine & transmission, so you can spot all leaks better (if there are more than one). Always replace that coolant flange. It should come with a new o-ring.

Hi Thomas, I’m dong my coolant flange today the one closer to the alternator it have allen bolts and they won’t bulge I tried spraying them with WD40 and I’ll leave them for about 24hr. Any tips you can give me to avoid stripping them or breaking the head of the bolts?

Hmm, usually 10mm head bolts. Not much room even with radiator in service position. Alternator is in the way for the top one... I would have suggested to knock against the head of the bolts with a hammer or use a bolt / nut extractor socket... to bite into the outside surface of the round bolt head... but not much room. On the other hand, if you are replacing the flange... break it, then you have room to get a socket over the bolt heads. With the flange broken and only the base remaining... you can probably get a chisel on the head of the bolt and shock the bolt in a counterclockwise direction to loosen them.

@@EXOVCDS I haven’t tried forcing them off yet. I just saturated them with wd40 and will try again tomorrow with a hex bit. I’ll update you on how it went thank you very much for replying.

Hi Thomas, after saturating the bolts with wd40 for 24hrs they came out without a fight now I just have to reverse the process. Thanks for your help.
