Kyokushin Karate. Some of Jin’s moves are used by actual Kyokushin fighters today and his motion capture actor is Ryu Narushima a real practitioner of the art.

Nikolić Pavle Badass. I practice Shotokan but can appreciate the toughness and intensity of Kyokushin. I just don’t understand why Jin needed to leave the country to learn it though, he could’ve studied it in Japan.

@@songoku9348 Same here, was on many championships in Shotokan and after 8 years I needed a change 😁 well Japan reminded him of his family so he wanted to sever every bond he had with them plus Heihachi could have found him in Japan, Mishima corps. is like the biggest company there is, that's why I'm guessing he has a hoody on all the time

The whole gameplay and narrative intertwine with Jin in this game is what made me a Jin Main still to this day. The idea of unlearning mishima style seems sick to me.

8:32 The way characters adjusted their stance with the uneven terrain is such a cool detail. I remember an interview where the developers say that wasn't the hardest thing they did in T4. Another interesting detail is the muscle deformation which is more realistic than what you have in subsequent games. This game was groundbreaking and excellent on so many levels except the most important bit - gameplay.

Honourable mentions to: * CH Laser Scraper without delay being guaranteed (you can avoid JFLS if you block the first two hits though) * You had to pick a move that reduced the effectiveness of it on hit (e.g. using Nina u/f+3+4 to avoid getting fully combo'd) * Wall push guaranteeing 2,1 so you were in the mixer all day (wallpush / JFLS mix, decent due to tiny throw escape window)

they changed jin's fighting style because it was very similar to kazuyas. in t3 kazuya obviously wasnt present and so they had jin kind of stand in for him by being able to replicate certain moves. in t4 they knew they were gonna bring back kazuya so they knew they had to change jin somehow as to not have two characters with similar move sets

Jin was considered to be the top tier god of Tekken 4 for the longest time but I recall at the end the Koreans had a tier list having Steve as number one. Steve was new and I guess they figured out how to play him. I hope MainMan keeps doing these Tekken 4 videos. They're great. Maybe he can demonstrate Lee's SS 2 move that he had huge damage with.

A massively OP combo for T4 Jin if I remember correctly...I may not remember all of the inputs anymore. JFLS, EWHF, dash 1, then 1,2,3 into D+4 It does like 140 damage! One of my favorite combos to land since it was harder, way more stylish because of the EWHF strike and also the damage on it. LOVE T4 Jin, easily my favorite Tekken character of all time.

I like how what lengths they went to make a good story, to the point of even making Jin unlearn his previous style and learn the one that we know today, there is also a lot of hidden stuff in tekken 4, like Yoshimistu's copy blade that I actually uploaded to my channel, sure the gameplay was off, but everything else was splendid.

@@tatewaki11 it's too imbalanced unlike tag 2. If someone said a character was easy you still had to put in work with them and EVERYONE had cheese which evened it out. This game literally has characters that can launch off jab or generic low like akuma, geese and Eliza for good damage. That means every punish is a big punish. You have character that can zone to waste time off the already small clock to win by time out because you can't get close(doesn't happen to me often I main Jin tho so it's hard to get in anyway but when it does happen it's annoying as fuck and I know to duck and side walk and they know that too so they keep jumping back, I only made it to genbu in this tekken before leaving). You have characters that can spend meter to make unsafe moves safe while others can't. You have ultimates while some are safe and some are not and usually the safe ones do the most damage. You got armor moves that some again are safe and some are not like hwoarangs which launches and does big damage on it's on. You can duck it yeah but it forces you to turtle or spam your own armor move. In lag that shit is deadly as hell and I know I catch people with it often. Certain characters pressure is way too strong vs other characters for example Lars is suppose to be a pressure character but he can't do a damn thing in this game. Katarina and noctis run it. Noctis can whiff punish you from full screen so you can't even bait moves out with him like you would in any other tekken. There are auto combos, good or bad doesn't matter they exist which takes away from actually learning the game. Just put a tutorial like tag 2 did and it would of been simple. They make you pay to train against characters you don't have, how would you prepare for a tournament when a new character released when you don't even have that character yourself? Tag 2 avoided this by making all characters that were dlc free but oh not tekken 7 so your fucked if you don't know someone who uses that character. You have unbreakable grabs in the game now, you have weapons that really cause a problem like noctis. Feels like he's plus on everything he does. Ranked is way too easy you can rank up off lower ranks which is stupid and you auto rank up everyone if you rank up to a milestone which makes you not wanna try new characters cause you don't get a chance to learn them. Also doing that makes starting a new account take years to rank up cause everyone's well beyond 1st Dan. There is so and I mean so many things wrong with this game it's ridiculous

Tekken 4 stages were so slick and unique in layout. I miss that type of variation. Now all stages are perfect arena rectangles with a few balcony breaks that lead to another perfect arena rectangle below.

In t4 jins staple combo was 1, ffn1, ffn1, ffn1,3~3, d4. Also, jf laser scraper was avoidable on block, i believe its with a ssr. It was a hit confirm.

Correction. There are four known variations. Regular 3 hit that juggles, two types of just frame blue spark and lastly the held version. I have seen the just frame version blocked and dodged at the last moment so obviously the real just frame version can't. Not sure if you have time to parry or reversal it.

I talked about the "just frame laser scraper" on your last Tekken 4 Jin video. The nightmares bro. So hard to deal with. I mained and still main Law and Bryan, and they both just happen to have punch parries. It's been years but I think that's how I dealt with it with those characters.

MM forgot to mention that the JFLS is only unavoidable when you get hit with the first or 2nd hit. You could side step it on block but I believe the trick was to neutral block the first two hits. Also some characters like Nina could avoid being launched by performing a move (I forget which one) that puts them in an airborne status. What this does is you get hit by the 3rd hit but instead of flying up, you simply fall down because the 3rd hit does not launch airborne opponents.

From what little footage ive seen of high level t4 gameplay im still suprised you didnt mention lingering soul omen (b 1+2, d,u,f,b at least I think it is that) and the moves that are altered from it (Soul HS and Soul EWGF)

Eh, not so sure. I recall reading that T4 came out relatively quickly after TTT. It's possible that they made a whole new style, got carried away, and didn't have time to balance it. Jin got nerfed big time in T5.

Well, it certainly wouldn't be the last time they would do that because in T6 Lars was the new poster child and that f***ing character was OP as hell in T6, Bob too, which I believe came first, before they decided to add the two new anime f***heads Lars/Alisa in Bloodline Rebellion. So they Infact did it twice with T6. First Bob then Lars. Smh. Now we are stuck with these dumb character designs. Jin atleast was relevant to the story, and didn't have a dumb fighting style like the one they gave Lars.

Even though I’ve been gaming so long that I bought SFII Turbo on SNES, Virtua Fighter on 32X, and the first Tekken on PSX on release (or not long after) playing Tekken 4 in the arcade is what got me into playing fighting games competitively. I played the hell out of it in the arcade, and then at home on PS2. Sadly, I stopped playing Tekken after 4, until I bought Tekken 7 not long after release, and had little patience after getting beaten online by people who weren’t even that good. You really have to stick with a fighting game to stay competitive at it. Anyway, I loved Tekken 4, and have great memories of playing it in the arcade on the weekends against the best Tekken 4 players in my area at the time.

Little late to the party, but the JFLS can be SSR if the first 2 hits are blocked. If you get hit by the bf+2,1 you are screwed if they hit the JF though.

Yeah this is my favourite tekken, any of its issue at high level could have easily been fixed with a patch, everything is else amazing. To this day, in a similar vein to third strike, it still seems like the most modern tekken game.

Old games were pretty much neglected back in the day before youtube have grown enough for KZfaqrs to make money from it, besides its fun to watch you playing. Also i was like 10 and most if not all of us have grown enough to become more curious about game mechanics

Bruuuh, that low hell sweep on block use to get me fucked up when I tried to punish with a WS launcher. Jin is quick enough to parry the "punish" launcher, then have his way after. Smh

TMM, I would suggest checking out the widescreen hacks that you can accomplish with PCSX2 so that the image doesn't come out stretched. Hopefully you'll see this.

Tekken 4 and 5 are by far my favourite Tekken games of the Franchise. Especially Tekken 4 is sourly the most unique and underrated (mostly because of the choices that hindered the competitive scene) but it is my favorite Tekken to date, because of the very seriousness Vibes of the Story aspects perspective. The seriousness atmosphere of Tekken 4 it's on another level in my opinion. The soundtrack is what gets me the most next to the game's atmosphere. With soundtracks like: Fetus(Prologue), Authentic Sky, Unihabited(Mall Area) Didgerhythm(Jungle Area) Touch and Go(Airport Area) and Kitsch(Beach Area) and The Inner Shrine(Hon-Maru Temple) and others soundtracks, For me Tekken 4 remains even in these days the most Unique Tekken game of the series.☯️

Thought he unlearned it for 2 reason 1.because his moves was pretty much a replacement for kazyua so they wouldent pretty much be the same character since kazyua came back in 4. And also because Jin was trained it by heihachi but he taught jin the style with holes in it so that he could easily beat him which he did in 3 so he had to learn karate. Not sure been long time since played 4.

If you blocked the first two hits of the string, you could sidestep right to avoid JFLS.

According to Aris the third hit of the scraper could only be avoided by specific characters like Nina with uf4 because it would make her airborne right before impact thus partially avoiding the hit. She could do it even if the first two hits of JFLS connected but it would only be a partial evasion because she would still be hit and launched although from an already airborne state and therefore could not be further juggled like you normally could and at least recover safely despite eating a JFLS. I really don't think stepping it is possible. Aris also mentions that Nina is "the only one in this game (T4) with movement" because of hayashida step, and while it allows her to evade a lot of offense no one else can avoid, he never mentioned it would help against JFLS. Maybe I'm wrong on some points but just thought it would be fun to share some more info about this old gem. Maybe it was possible to step but just not realistic to pull off.

@@XT873 I've also heard that you can sidestep it but the timing is very specific making it very difficult. Could be wrong though. Haven't played the game in many years.

Most the cast could step it on block, a couple characters could not, some had partial escapes to just get floated, ling could aop the last hit on hit.

My guess is that, since the developpers removed the ability to release the button as soon as the sparks appeared, they never realised in testing that if both happen at once on the same frame, the unblockable hit happens way too fast.
