If only in the land of America we could get more than garbage attempt of anything close to this. I think this is a fine example of a Japanese man that controls the actual products in the Japanese stores. Is sad. You have it way better than we do here in US. Basically what we get from a 7-11 is literally garbage on comparison

Totally agree. Food deserts are a huge problem in a lot of places in the US.

Japan is engaged in a 'race to the top' between the convenience store chains. They want to offer the best quality and service at the best prices. In America, we're engaged in a 'race to the bottom' where all the chains are cutting every single corner to maximize profits while slowly but surely reducing the expectations of the average American. We accept it, though, and that allows them to get away with it.

Cinnamon is really quite pungent. It has to be balanced by something really sweet.

People who say it is expensive have probably never been to Japan. It's no more expensive than going somewhere in western Europe for hotels, and food is way cheaper in Japan if you do not go for super fancy stuff. I've been to Japan several times and even the cheap food there is spectacularly good, well worth going even just for that. Taxis are not cheap but not super expensive either, about the same as western Europe. Busses for long distances are cheap, Shinkansen train is pricey but cool to try once or twice just for the experience. But if you can budget about the equivalent of 100euro a day you can cover a business class hotel and food and some travel, a little more will allow you to try out some more exotic kind of food experiences like fine Wagyu beef, maybe Fugu if you are willing to try that (it's very good!).

@@noth606 yep agreed Japan is inexpensive. I have been several times and yes the food and the sights are first class. Japanese people are so respectful compared to other parts of the World. I love everything about Japan, food, culture, nightlife sights, history and the people, so much so I married a beautiful Japanese lady. We have now been married 22 years. We never stay with family we always stay in hotels or Ryokans, as I love the hot springs (rotemboro)outside bath. Tip you must get away from the tourist traps otherwise you will pay dearly. All the of the Japanese konbini stores are way better than Australia for example, there sandwhiches are always fresh, the variety is huge compared the sad and sorry 7-11’s I. Australia.

@Tima yes mate several times. My wife’s is Japanese. I love the culture, the people and the food. Also the sights and smells are wonderful. Have been to Aomori for the Nebuta Matsuri? It is an experience. Possibly Tsukiji market is my favorite place.

The problem is that, here in America, the 'convenience stores' have no incentive to offer high quality products since the low grade garbage is still selling. American's standards have been decimated by a corporate-led race to the bottom.

This is true of the USA too: when you dine in a restaurant you are paying for the service and the environment. The menu price pays for the ingredients and for the preparation of the food and drinks, and the "tip" is paying for the service and the environment provided by the waitstaff. (I put "tip" in quotations because it is almost 100% of the waitstaff's income because the restaurant only pays them enough to cover the taxes taken out of their checks.) Unless you are cooking something that requires special equipment or uncommon ingredients, it is almost always significantly less expensive to cook it at home instead of going out.

It’s always cheaper to buy ingredients and cook because for restaurants, they need to pay for staff, rent, electrocute etc.

Lawson Convenience store actually originated in Ohio, USA and was named after J.J. Lawson, a dairy farmer! I don't think there are any Lawson stores left in the USA, though I could be wrong about that.
