Жыл бұрын

Pete and Rachel talk about how the new single 'Can't Outrun The Truth' came about, why it was written, who wrote it., who produced it and who sang on it. Over a mug of tea in the kitchen, they discuss the recording of the song and about how it was all done in 2021 during lockdown with Pete in his home studio and Rachel producing whilst suffering the aches and pains of a bad back. Such is show biz!
"Can't Outrun The Truth' by Pete Townshend. Written and produced by Charlie Pepper.

Pete Townshend is the most erudite and intellectual Pop Star ever. He is always a good interview and does have something non-trite to say. He is also fearless in his honesty and never minces words. A breath of fresh air, and after seeing him play live with the Who multiple times he is one of the greatest Rockers of all time and a wonderfully engaging frontman.

I saw Pete first perform with the Who in 1970 and both he and the band were incredible and the whole experience is indelibly printed in my soul!I saw Hendrix a few months before and he was not particularly memorable. Although a great player he became lauded after his death by people who were too young to have ever seen him.Pete, thankfully,is still with us and although the Who are not as such you can still see and here his talent!

Roger was really sick, but even with the struggling he went through, he was still able to do a fantastic job singing. He was still able to hit every note, High-Or-Low.... Of course, Zak Starkey on Drums, Bassist Pino Palladino, and because John ''Rabbit'' Bundrick had to leave for part of the Tour to be with his Wife, who was very ill at the time, To cover for Rabbit, his Keyboard Technician, Brian Kehew, (Who Did One Heck Of A Job), stepped in and played for 25-30 Shows on the Tour, until Rabbit's return, Plus Kehew was totally awesome... Craziness playing an unplugged gig at an abandoned water treatment plant along the river on a rainy night and I slipped on the last trip back to the car. I never got the hang of crutches so I was unable to walk for almost the last half of the year. Being able to keep working from home while I wasn't ambulatory was great, but I definitely went extra stir crazy just existing in my reclining chair for months. Found a way to create dumb music with Bandlab on my phone to keep me sane until I could sit in a position to play my bass again.

Always great to have you back anyway we can get you, Pete. Miss the old days when the business end was good and the rest of the time was one long argument. Too much for the Magic Bus, old friend.

Love the new song....new to me, just heard it today. I lost them all, when he passed away...I withdrew and they slipped away. Can't go home...I'm So alone. Something I wrote when I decided I had to deal with the truth.

Pete looks so good - I'm happy for him. The last song of his I listened was The Real Me, and The Rock was the one before - a great guitar solo in it, very subdued and beautiful. Go on, Pete!

As a teenager in the 70s, I was blessed to listen to modern music and then be able to reach back one full decade and discover heaps of gold. I discovered the WHO via WHO's next 4 years after its release. Then I discovered Quadrophenia. That gave me the roadmap to understand the confusion and pains of teenage angst. Thank you, Pete. Much love.

Not a big WHO fan here, but I do appreciate Pete’s work especially his writing collaborations with David Gilmour and nothing comes close to Who’s next for me, as being their most stellar body of work imo. The drumming, the bass work by the Ox,Pete’s playing & writing,Roger, all of them just firing on all cylinders.

The WHOs music is very unique, incredibly well produced. The speaker systems love it. Pete Townshend is a genius and was very kind to my late father. David.

The Who are an important and wonderful part of my life. In 1966, while in a seminary high school, studying to become a priest, I saw a TV production (with about 30 of my classmates) of three bands playing in England: Graham Bond Organization, Manfred Mann (if my memory is correct on those two) and The Who. The Who opened up a brave new world for me with My Generation. Later, I became a bass player, but was nearly ruined by trying to be John Entwistle and play leads... A few years later, my band mates and I saw The Who in Fargo ND, where they played with Herman's Hermits. An interesting mix! Between the band's prodigious musical talents and Pete's amazingly brilliant creative mind, we all have had the chance to be a part of something very special. Thank you. Carl Weimer.
