For the first time ever, Dan and Tom go head to head in a full 5 set table tennis match! You guys have been asking for it, here it is!
To make things even more interesting we used OSAI's latest AI technology to analyse our match in incredible detail.
We then used this data to work out what techniques and tactics we need to improve on and implement more into our game strategies for next time. Check out OSAI here for more on the technology: www.osai.ai/
Enjoy!

Actually, I thought that Tom would win much easier. Looks like Dan improved a lot in past 2 years, generates more power at least with forehand and quite consistent (more consistent than I expected). Maybe it is just because Dan knows Tom quite well, but I hope that he moved his game to a new level (finally)

Yo man this is sick,great video and this camera is a great technology and these movements that you guys are putting to,this can upper your strength more and you turn your body and swing (this helps you even more in rallies and this is how you put the big power into it but also keep your Consistency when you finish the match because you will need that) and also just a quick thing i wanna tell you is that the video (the robot) it looks into your movement = when you turn with the body and swing at the same then the power is charged then attack it with your weight to generate it and theres a thing about the attack,when your in that rally remember this isn't a theory when you're in that rally you just have to attack the target just like what it says in the ball tracking everything there is where you hit at that means you attacked the target and they don't think about any theories they just do what they do. #ForTheLegacy #TableTennisDaily #DanTheFounder #TomTheFrog #TheDonkey Keep it up TTD Team

We’ll played Dan. I’ve said in the past that sometimes it looks like you’re holding back slightly - I don’t know if maybe it’s a slight lack of confidence, but once you upped your intensity in sets 3 and 4 we see what you’re really capable of. Given Tom’s pedigree as a high ranked English player you must be pleased you can run him that close.

Like a wrestling match... The outcome was never in question. Dan never stood a chance. The skill gap between those two is still huge. Tom lost sets 3 and 4 on purpose. He stopped playing aggressive and was very far behind the table in those sets. But a great video nonetheless! Keep em comin'.. :-)
@janosch7210
@janosch7210 Жыл бұрын
exactly my thoughts. This was just a 'exhibition match' for the sake of generating viewers. Tom totally knew, the vid will have less views, when he is going to destroy Dan clean, 3:0. Thats why he hold back in the 3th and 4th set, to raise some additional tension. Then in the 5th he made it very clear, who's the better player. Nonetheless hughe props to Dan, he made so much improvement the last couple of years! I have to aknowledge that. If his workrate stays that high, the skillgap sooner or later will be closed! Wp from both guys. In the end it was a very entertaining match

@@TableTennisDaily Hey. I'm definitely no basketball expert and have just s"half-knowledge about stuff" but to my knowledge the upcoming of analytics in basketball (dont know how they do it in the NBA - by computers or many many people counting... ;) ) it emerged over the last 15 or 20 years that shooting "3 pointers" is statistically more valid than dribbling into the zone and shooting for two. Basketball NBA-channels on youtube analyse and explain such tactical stuff deeper. That combined with some regulations/rules changed (less hard defense, zone defense etc) lead to the point that more and more players shoot more and more 3 pointers that the generation afterwards got even better in this playing style and now much more players can shoot much higher percentages "from 3" then ever before. I believe they actually think about a 4-point line... but players like steve curry nearly don't care anymore about distance and hit insanely from everywhere (and in much higher arcs that its nearly impossible to block). (hence basketball is to my view not nearly as entertaining as it was when Jordan played :D ) in tabletennis with the larger ball etc tactics and techniques changed, too (see harimoto near the table etc)... I would think that this analytics might reveal even more "places were players can improve on a statistical relevant level". Imagine you have not just a feeling but hard data that Player X hits only 75% on hard long serves but 79% on fast sidespin to backhand... or anything like that. You would want to know and exploid that.
