Hey guys!
So recently I’ve been using the Amicus Prime table tennis robot to try and improve my backhand basing it off Patrick Franziska’s. Two weeks ago I was lucky enough to be able to meet up with the man himself to try and improve it further with his coaching advise.
I also reviewed his equipment setup focusing on his new blade. The video for this review will be out next week so be sure to keep an eye out for that!
Hope you guys enjoy!

Hey! I really like your videos! You make them very clear and with a great quality! I know a rubber that is more than amazing. Its not a tensor rubber but feels like one. It picks up spin better and works amazing with alot of feeling. Its as fast as the 05 to. The rubber is called: Nittaku fastarc g-1. Nittaku has a fastarc series witch includes the fastarc g-1. The g-1 is the second fastest in the series but with the hoghedt throw angle. I would love it if you guys could make a review on that series or atleast the g-1 rubber! With best regards Kasper!

Dan is a good player, but you really can see a distance between good non pro players and a pro player. Patrick looks so relaxed and yet his shot is crisp & very powerful
@TP-mp5lk
@TP-mp5lk Жыл бұрын
Dan can mimick Patrick's shot quite well (although there are still differences as you rightly say) but it is only the very first step to actually using the shot in your game and that is where Dan has a lot of room to improve (as do I). This is actually why I am a bit disappointed by this video. I would have liked to see Dan do some more advanced exercises. The highlights of one hour Training with Patrick would have been great.

@@ngocnguyendinh9984 Dan is a real player who had to step down on TT because of his bad back. 2x Commonwealth champion and he built an academy from dust. He has a very decent level. And he tries hard to get as good as possible through lessons with pros. To become better as a player and as a teacher. So dont talk when you know nothing. 😉
@TableTennisGalaxy
@TableTennisGalaxy Күн бұрын
Just fyi: Given that you have your technique, timing, and positioning correct, being extremely loose and relaxed is THE ONLY WAY to hit with that much power and spin on either side. It's what allows your arm, and subsequently, your racket to WHIP with as much speed as possible and this is exactly what allows you to hit with power and spin. The same principles apply to throwing a baseball. Watch how much whip a Major League pitcher creates in his arm as he throws the ball.

It's amazing that Dima and Patrick give you, and all of us, this opportunity. It's so insightful to see the pros and hear from them the nuances of their body mechanics during the strokes. You just don't get this same level of detail watching a game as opposed to these training sessions. These are amazing, please keep them coming.

Thanks for sharing. Good progress Dan. One thing you could observe - note where Patricks left hand is throughout his stroke 3:50. If you impliment this also, you will be able to fully utilise that triangle of energy Patrick mentioned. It will help you explode with less effort also. Much respect to Partick for giving back in this way 🙏🏽

Interestingly, even though Patrick and Liam from the recent vid have quite different backhand technique, there is a thing in common between them: just look at the amount of the wrist movement, the explosiveness in the wrist area and the timing of the hole body movement to focus on this wrist stroke exactly in the desired place and time. Just awesome. Big thanks Dan for sharing this and big thanks to Patrick and Liam for being able to spare some time with Dan and the KZfaq community!

The explosive power... _ends_ at the wrist (and blade) . The kinetic energy starts at the shoulder. Examine PF's strokes in frame-by-frame mode . His shoulder humps upward a few inches. That's your high-mass/low speed kinetic source. It is mediated through the upper-arm and elbow to the forearm which snaps the wrist with low-mass/high speed energy, with the highest speed ending up in the blade. And PF also points the importance of the legs and feet. Bouncy-bouncy. You want your whole frame to be mounted on a springy base, not flat feet and shock-absorbers. A spring-loaded frame allows extra impetus to be loaded to the shoulder. Finally, a hand barbell with weight (only at the far end) and a month's worth of shadow-stroking brought the greatest single improvement to my own strokes, back in the 70's. I was a lousy player in terms of winning (stymied especially by long-short placement artists), but the power in the drive, forehand and backhand was second to none in my province. Weighted (5 pounds, and 15 pounds) strokes not only greatly developed the muscle-strength, but forced me to use every part of the power-train from feet to wrist.

I like Patrick and his playstyle a lot, since im 1,88 and i kinda have to play medium distance too. His performance at Budapest was pretty nice. I think he's germanys No1 now! Contentwise i think there wasnt something completely he had to tell. You move from left to right, accelerate explosive, use your wrist, move into the ball, hit it and prepare your bodyposition for the next stroke. All the people with a relatively nice backhand kinda now how its done im theory. Its just that he does it so effortlessly, so smooth for such a big guy and yet so powerful. The quality he puts out on this shots is quite next level! Amazing to watch!

Dan, on finishing your stroke. Look again at the video from the side. Compare that with Patrick. The real reason why your BH does not have the penetration is because you tend to lean back. It is as if you are trying to create the arc with your body. Try to hit through the ball, & you should feel as if you are finishing your stroke on your toes, instead of your heels.

@@TTDPocketRocket i Am fair because i actually watch his progress. But if he does all that to not use it in match situations, whats the point? The most important is to force himself to use it to improve. I like Dan as a man but i think he needs to get out of his comfort zone as a player to really become better. Like you my bh is my force. And modern TT needs a good bh. I just want him to go for it for real. He says he watches himself to compare but if he doesnt try hard enough it will never come out. Thats why i say that. The day he plays his bh full bore with success will be where i will see him as a complete player and proper teacher. Im not trying to offend him. Just to shake him. Its a huge chance he has to learn from these guys. He has to make it. Cheers pocket rocket.
