A van stopped in a yellow box is taxable . Tools stolen from a van costs money to investigate . Hope this explains the situation we are in
@WhiteDieselShed
@WhiteDieselShed 2 ай бұрын
All that money painting the box, probably more than £10,000 because that is what a few line on the local roundabout cost to paint. And then how much was the camera system watching over the box ready to fine anything with a bumper overhanging the lines? £100,000++ And yet report a crime in progress and they don't even bother to come out.

The government has deliberately built too few prison places while at the same time importing a dangerous criminal underclass. The gay rainbow tweet police have been undermined with a fifth column of bossy 5' short haired dikes, but even if they investigated actual crimes properly the fact is the rest of the system is against the idea of real punishment for these crimes.

I went down but they were all other trades so I said none were mine.The guy said,believe it or not,well just take two! WTF Roger! Why did you let this guy off the hook?? Go to any market in the country and you will see a shifty bloke (who does not have English as his first language) with 200 power tools spread out on the floor for sale. It is SO SIMPLE for the cops to just ask the question "Do you have purchase receipts for these items" - then just impound the lot there and then. Do that every weekend across the country for a few months and this whole thing will STOP. There are perhaps 100 gangs creating 99% of the pain. It is easy to make their lives painful. Police just do not do their jobs. Blaming manufacturers and having pointless meetings for 7 years is utterly shambolic. The very reason we have this problem is because the police decided to do FA about it. Impound, impound, impound - it is not for the law to prove you own stuff, it is for you to have evidence that it you came buy it legally. Wasted opportunity Roger (as I am sure these comments will concur with). #p*ssedoff

The police, whose first language is English, are the biggest irresponsible hypocrites by diverting responsibility to manufacturers, as it’s the easiest thing to do naturally ‘as they don’t have resources’ is always the joke of an answer. It just takes one sting operation with ‘marked’ vans in specific areas and a good 10year imprisonment to all those involved to set the example straight. But why would that do that ??!! Screwfix employees 1000’s because we get mugged, insurance companies work, vehicle workshops work, car manufacturers sell parts, signage companies works etc etc it’s all whole industry working plus the added bonus of the thief not needing to claim benefits!

Thieves aren't breaking into vans to steal tractors, wtf? One of my employees parked his private Transit in a railway station for four hours, it was broken into (fruitlessly, he doesn't keep anything in there) costing quite a bit to repair, turns out it's quite easy to drill through the sliding door and wiggle a screwdriver to open the lock (which these people did). He was parked in front of a camera, which had a number to ring. He rang the number, spoke to British transport police, who said they couldn't do anything unless he could narrow the timeframe down to something more convenient. Fucking outrageous that they wouldn't just load the tape and see who did it. He ended up buying some kit online that has 6mm plate stainless steel to cover the hole and slow down further attacks🤷‍♂️

I'm a plumber. I have been looking for some time now at what I can use to mark my tools. It is relatively easy for us to open up our tools and epoxy in a RFID chip or NFC sticker inside the tool, but what we need to know is what protocols are used with the police scanners so we can buy a reasonably priced identification device that will work. Immobilise sells NFC tags, but they are very expensive at around £15 each for a tag that at most costs 10p to produce. Manufacturers must be told to incorporate these tags in every single power tool produced. When you purchase the tool, you can register the unique code either on your phone while you're still at the merchant or make it law for the merchant to register it while you're there before you leave with it. To reiterate, a tag is a few pennies to produce. Buying something aftermarket can be costly. Is there a way that we as trades can have some sort of input in the legislation that Andrew is talking about?

Sorry Roger but i cant watch PC comedian Huddelston victim blame for 20 minutes. The main problem isn't the lack of futuristic super anti theft technology BUT the LACK of punishment and deterrence in the UK, no one is going to risk robbing a Hitachi if they get a decade plus behind bars. One pathetic example he made is the Honda quad comment, WHY should Honda go out of the way to to invest in super high tech immobilisation technology for a farm tool to heard the sheep which is not a road legal vehicle which would need expensive immobilization tech? what next chip and pin bio metrics for cow milking machines(!) Also saying manufacturers like their items being stolen because it creates more sales in replacements is BS because if you claim on insurance and insurance companies notices a trend of a certain product being easily stolen on their database they will increase premiums massively so people will be naturally less likely to purchase the product in the future. Back to my original point if someone in Hondas home country of Japan (where crime is the lowest per capita of any major industrialised democracy) was arrested and convicted for stealing farm equipment they would be banged up for 15+ years and life basically over, here in UK you would get a slap on the wrist 2 year suspended sentence.. My point is PC Huddelston is too focused playing politics by blaming victims of crime and not questioning the cause being the decay in British society and broken justice system with comically lenient sentencing which makes repeat offending an attractive lifestyle choice to many.

It's almost as if a load of people who don't share the values of working people have suddenly shown up from nowhere. But, got to be careful with this subject because unlike tool theft, you will get a visit from the police if you express an opinion about it. 3) a SmartWater Home/Sole Trader pack currently costs 60 quid, the commercial pack is £250. How about a scheme where these items are Zero VAT Rated and subsidised by government grant / provided by police, to be taken up by as many people as possible?

The issue is not laws etc. but police presence and them actually doing their job. We need more police patrolling consistently as that is a preventative measure. Once the crime is committed (around by us is car thefts lately) the police can't do anything, even with full blown video footage. Prevention is what is needed, more police with the powers to do their job and not chase pointless hurtful tweets like someone else has said. This comes down to funding the increasing the force again...

not even that mate - my ex committed numerous (very serious crimes) against me and others, wasting police time, lying to them (their own officers witnessed it repeatedly and commented on it, two WPCs shaking with anger, one weeping) - but try to report it and get a number? Nah.. won't give one, not even with a witness, not even in reply to letters and emails. In fact, they (unlawfully) arrested me for peacefully and lawfully trying to get EVEN MORE evidence against my mad ex. Being innocent and challenging the system doesn't suit them - total politically controlled useless peons.

Put a chip in all power tools at source that can be activated upon purchase by the retailer with the purchasers details. Then legislate to make all carboots, market etc hold chip detectors and check all power tools on stalls to make sure they’re legit to the seller, who has to sign a receipt upon sale with their details to enable a buyer to have the chip updated at a police station. Long winded but might deter the thefts.

To use a building analogy... 'here's some paint..go paint that house'.. You think to yourself.. There is no where near enough paint here to cover the whole house.. Shall I.. 1. paint a really thin coat over the whole house and risk a crappy looking job, or 2. paint the most visible parts well so people don't notice so much... But I'll know which parts I've skimped on..and if people notice what I've done they'll still complain. There is no right or wrong answer....... Police just need more staff.. Its not that they're thick, lazy or apathetic... The government doesn't listen.. Same with NHS, schools.. What do they expect? People rightly feel frustrated and annoyed.. Do they not think that Police Officers don't feel this way too? You've no idea

They have enough officers when it suits, eg. when arresting a young autistic girl for calling a female officer a lesbian like her nanna! It's the couldn't careless here's a crime number attitude that has turned these type of crimes into an epidemic, it's time to start upholding the law not dancing about at LGBTQ carnivals. Complete waste of time, that's why the public has no faith in them anymore.

Vans are poorly designed and a rating and testing system rating their security might help persuade manufacturers to build them right. The company Transit Custom is likely to be replaced this year and the new version I think has added key less entry and ignition so RFID pouch will be needed. A system that is vulnerable added to a commercial vehicle to make it more vulnerable. The result will be despite 3rd party uprated locking systems the van will be vulnerable to being nicked contents and all. Driven to a remote lay-by and a hole cut in the van and unloaded. Van off the road with £1000's pound of damage and all the tools to replace.

I still think that tools and vehicles have to be registered at the point of sale, and also registered with one's insurance. People complaining about spending an extra 10+ minutes at the retailer to do this, need to suck it up, and just do it. A national database would help. Scribe your tools.

3:15 This makes no sense - theft won't generate tool sales, unless they sell them as metal to recycling. It just moves the sold tools from hands to hands. Put chips into tools so the police can easily read them with a scanner and check against database - that will scare away the people who buy stolen tools.
@SkillBuilder

It might not make sense but it is a simple fact. People who have tools stolen go and buy new tools of the same quality and often the same brand. The second hand stolen tools appeal to people who would never pay full price for tools and, if they can't buy stolen tools they buy very cheap low quality tools.

What's the point in marking something that they can't be arsed to find after it's been nicked?! If it never turns up it's pointless and it usually doesn't. I had a brand new trailer stolen, it had the number laser cut straight through through the chassis, all the Police did was ask me if I wanted a crime number as they usually do. No mate, I want you to go find it, you could trace it, but you can't be arsed. If someone buys something for a 1/4 of it's value they know it's stolen so they'll buy it and use it. There are people openly committing crime on FBMP or Ebay and the Police don't follow it up when you tell them.

Shame this was not a live chat where we could ask questions. eg. WHY will the police rush out on lights and sirens when a company or security guard say there is a man with a camera in a public place legally and yet a member of the public calls to say someone is breaking into their car or they have been burgled and they are not interested. I reported something stolen and the only interest was could it be used as a weapon to kill someone... No way was I going to say yes because they would probably arrest me...

Funny the police blaming manufacturers, try blaming weak sentences. You can serial number tools but do you understand how much admin staff you’d need to register every single tool ? Vans are commercial vehicle and you can fit them with an internal 250db sound bomber siren . When it goes off people streets away will hear it and the first things the thieves will do is bolt without tools, why ? Because it’s that loud you need to cover your ears , even ear defenders doesn’t stop how loud it is.
