Crazy when you think how far load carrying gear has come. When I first enlisted we were using ALICE grear- suspenders and belt. After that was MOLLIE but it was all about the vest or chest rig. Now it's split between a vest/chest rig and a belt. The more things change, the more they stay the same. The only difference is the attachment method.

I only have a belt set up for "when things go bump in the night." Nothing tactical. But all of my kit is there when I need it on a belt that I can put on and go. Including spare mags, a good light, dump pouch, knife, and a med kit.

British tend to stick with belt kit, web gear, tiered setup with ruck as another layer ... u.s. going in the direction of swat setup... no sustaining on first line gear.. Guys, in Nam the order didn't need to be given to ditch rucksack.. everyone just knew time to ditch the bag to move fast.. Bravo two zero, operation Redwing.. for long range patrols your belt kit needs 2 water bottles plus ability to carry more, etc.. Without water you are finished.. all the cool gear but you need sunstainment in you belt kit..
