Almost all of my practice has been with dry fire and I can hit steel at 100 with everything from my P10F to my P365x...dry fire made it so that when I was at my recent pistol class I mostly focused on rifining my grip and managing recoil instead of trying to shore up my ability to take a clean shot because at a base level my ability to take accurate shots was already set. It felt really good to have other people who clearly have more money and ammunition to burn look at my target and say, "damn kid!" even when I was focused on the rounds I threw, why I threw them, and how I could prevent it in the future.

What a shame that you can only press the like button once. JJ is a Great teacher. I’ve been shooting IPSC since 30+ years and I always look to learn something new or get confirmation that I am doing things right. This video is really all about efficient dry training and JJ is all about efficiency

Met JJ at the PanAm Champs in Frostproof over a week ago. Amazed at how cool he is for a celebrity in his own right. We approached him and said "You know why we are here", and he laughed and started posing for the pictures immediately. Promised to give us some more iron sight videos for us production shooters too.

I love this. This is a great video for those who want to take JJ's course. This going to help not just new shooters but even seasonal shooters step their game up because we now know the philosophy and mindset behind JJ's train of thought. I always found a road block in dry firing training. Always asking how can i get better, what small movements do i need to improve on. What areas can i cut corners, or where should i not cut corners. Like not dropping the mag. Simple yet efficient. Keeping elbows in. The little details like this are going to make me and other better shooters. I love it. Thanks JJ. I can't wait to watch more videos of you.

Dry firing with a laser cartridge has been a HUGE help, huge! That and using LaseHit app with homemade targets. I was shocked when I went back to the range after not shooting for months and seeing how accurate I was. In fact my accuracy increased along with speed, time to sight picture, grip, presentation, trigger pull.

Mr. Racaza, there is so much correlation between shooting technique and practice, and drumming - start slow, repetive practice of a single technique, daily practice, and extended repetition. For example, the movement practice at the end. Doing 10 repetitions is not comparable to repetive practice for 30 minutes with no stopping. This is "The Simpsons Practice." When the TV show intro begins, start playing a pattern with the percussion instrument and do not stop until the theme song finishes at the end - 30 minutes. Another example is warming up. The drumming warm up (15 to 30 minutes) prepares the hands with blood flow and dexterity. The drumming warm up is excellent preparation for handling the pistol. Another correlation is clearing the mind of all thought and then focus on what is about to happen, what I call seeing ahead when playing the drums. I wonder what revelations a shooter of your ability learning to play drums would find.

Myles knows that I use my Dry Fire Mag for these drills with my Glock, for trigger work, and DAA weighted mags for reloads. Tape over your red dot to really accentuate target focus.

Freakin amazing video!! Normally you have to pay for this kind of info!! Very thankful for this great information. Definitely helped my dry fire game. Good to know about not dropping the mags on reload practice. I started doing mag changes standing towards my bed letting the mags drop on the bed so they don’t get any wear and tear and I don’t have to keep bending over every time. Thanks again JJ!!

Excellent, excellent video and instructions!! I’ve made every mistake JJ refers to from pressing the trigger as a reaction to coming on target, pinning it, etc. very helpful information. Now, a question, if I understand correctly JJ, you actually begin your trigger press once your sights are on target and not as you come into the target? This has been a point of confusion for me for years as I attempted to interpret direction from other instructors on KZfaq. I smiled when I saw your Beretta 92, as I also carry and practice with the PX4 DA/SA. Thanks again!!

Yes, I don’t press my trigger until I “start” the sight alignment process. It is a fine line as I don’t want to wait too late either. Basically, if I’m going fast on my draw (movement) then I avoid the trigger until I start the process of my shooting (I.e looking for my sights) when I switch to that process is only when I’ll start my trigger. Any more than that, I’ve found myself to HAVE to slow my draw down coz I’m fiddling with the trigger with a live gun. :-)

Well done, I like the way you segment or separated the different steps of this process. Do you see any problem with DryFire trigger manipulation using 1911 trigger platform Vs single/double action trigger like yours?
