In this video, Navy SEAL Mark "Coch" Cochiolo, talks about plate carriers. He talks about different setups, what he recommends, and how he sets everything up on his own plate carriers.
Coch has over 30 years of Naval Special Warfare experience ranging from Special Warfare Operator, Operational Tester, Combat developer, Officer In Charge, Training Officer and Weapons Instructor.
Coch has four operational SEAL tours of duty to the Western Pacific (WESTPAC) under his belt and has spent eight years as an assaulter and breacher on the US Navy's tier-one counter-terrorist unit (Naval Special Warfare Development Group) making operational and combat deployments to hotspots in Eastern Europe and the Middle East.
In Coch's most senior military position he was the Chief Warrant Officer in charge of training and combat systems for forward deployed SEALs in the Middle East out of NSWU3, Bahrain.
After retiring, he served as Contract BUD/S instructor responsible for curriculum development and teaching the basics weapons course for all US Navy SEAL candidates. He has trained over 3,500 Navy SEAL candidates in Combat Shooting and marksmanship with the M4 Rifle, Sig 226, Glock 19, MK 48, MK 17 SCAR and 40mm grenade launchers.

One guy at Lewis McCord gave me great advice. Save money by getting a cheap Condor or used carrier, take it to the Korean seamstresses at one of the off post cleaners, have her do a double stitch job on the areas that could potentially rip/come apart and voila' you have something almost as strong as a Tactical Tailor/Redback/Ferro rig that can be run hard at a class or on deployment.

Tactical tailor chest rigs aren’t very expensive I got mine in 04 before my 1st tour and it lasted 3 1/2 years in Iraq and a few NTC/JRTC rotation, but getting any gear re-enforced but Koreans off post is a good idea

I think a very safe rule of thumb for going outside the wire was "if you don't want to carry it 15 miles in 105 degree heat, don't bring it." You could always spot the combat virgins by how they strapped every damned bit of gear they owned to themselves like a walking gear issue reciept. Ounces equals pounds, pounds equals pain. The real salt dogs always just had weapon, plates, mags, water, food, comms, nods, an IFAK and batteries.

I snaked mine in with my aft helmet load to balance out. An additional one dedicated to a summer rig much like yours you shown. It saved my life 2x, an I wish the US Brass would except it as a life saving tool vs too violent to issue. I would never go into battle with out my Jack. I think the one thing that came along and has continued the development of plate carriers has been ceramic material plates, steel is robust and long lasting but it’s heavy, uncomfortable and a bit dangerous for comfort, lightweight and fitment a curved ceramic plate does wonders, I upgraded my front plate to a ceramic plate and I won’t ever go back sure it’s more expensive but I’d argue that it’s worth it just because it’ll save your back and knees

I carried 6 mags in Iraq in 05', we all did. I never realized the standard changed. I have 6 on mine currently, but I'd only use my carrier here in the states defending my little town in case of civil war.

7 technically. 1 in the mag, 6 on you. that was the standard across the board and still is. for us tankers we had 7 Mags for M4, 3 mags for 9 mil.

I remember wearing early version of the IOTV with the pull chord. wore pouches enough to hold 7 full mags, a seat belt cutter, pouch for NVG's, admin pouch, Camelback attached to the back of the IOTV and Antropene/2 pam chloride on side in the event we got slimed. with everything worn came close to 120lbs of gear. not counting breaching kits, rifle and sidearm.

@@Pentazemin44 . Exactly. They teach you discipline and the basic know hows to start your career. I gained weight and weighed about 225 on all 4 of my deployments. carrying that stuff did a toll on my body but not once did I ever complain. even went as far as carrying 1200 round of 7.62 in my assault bag and lugged my M240B around on dismounted patrol. I never wanted a partner to lug my shit around.

I liked to put four triple magazine placards on top of eachother, and have every pouch issued to me on my vest. That way I can put everything I bought at the PX on my kit and not use shopping bags when I take the bus back to my trailer after I ate a four course meal at the dining facility. When I would get back to my chu I would take pictures in my immaculate kit with my M16 and post pictures on MySpace so my friends back home thought I actually did something for a living other than eat surf and turf and collect a pay check tax free.

GHOST I hate that ifak so much, if it remotely snags on anything, all your shit gets yard sale all over the place. Our medics started having us take the Israeli dressing out and start carrying ace wrap because it’s more universal and frankly Israeli dressings aren’t built the best. Anyway that beefy role of ace wrap just put that POS ifak on the bleeding edge of being able to contain it’s contents
@wormfrom808
@wormfrom808 3 жыл бұрын
The place of the first aid kit differs from unit to unit. That "back of the plate" position may be only good for spec ops since they would have multiple people to help each other all the time. If you only have yourself or inexperienced friends for company, having an ifak in your backpack or in front of the vest would be a better idea.
