Former Navy SEAL, Toshiro "Tosh" Carrington, continues where we left off by talking about the quick draw in more scenarios, particularly for concealed carriers.
The scenarios in future videos will continue to build on top of previous videos as we place Myles in more complex, dynamic, and realistic scenarios.

Exposing these test scenarios is exactly what people need to see! I haven't seen any other youtube videos where it applies real gunfighting chaos in a force-on-force environment. Keep making these videos!

Best segments on KZfaq. Force on force is the closest to real world scenarios that we’re going to get. Take boxing for example, doing heavy bag work will not make you a skilled boxer. Likewise shooting at the range will not make you a skilled gun “fighter”. A skilled marksman? Perhaps. A skilled gun “fighter”? No.

I know this is a role playing scenario, but in a real situation create distance the second you feel there might be a threat. If someone came out yelling at me to stay out of his neighborhood I definitely wouldn’t continue walking towards him.

Tosh remember that drawing first is a big legal problem, seen as excalation. Love these research scenarios, great work. For the younger crowd one might dive & roll to a safe position, or perhaps kneel quuickly and return fire. This makes the bad guy use marksmanship, which they apparently lack, and favors the trained shooter.

Hey Tosh great video, you have really made me change my current training. With that being said I wanted to know if you can possibly do a part three but this time involving a scenario where you have a child (infant, child, then teen) with you and another scenario where you have another adult with you. In both scenarios you are the only person armed against the bad guy.

I love and appreciate the content y'all are putting out. I'm looking forward to practicing some techniques I've learned next trip to the range. I have a question in this scenario. Maybe you've covered it previously, so please forgive my ignorance. What about trying to disengage or diffuse the situation, and what would be some good techniques to do so? And if that goes south, how to draw, move, seek cover in that situation? Thanks again for the great content. I really have learned a lot from y'all.

I agree. I dont' think a bad guy comes right out and shoots without some verbal harassment or bluster first. This gives you a brief moment to analyse and move.

Have Myles do this again while holding something in his hand Many ppl in gunfights don't drop whatever it is they're holding which compromises their grip making accurate shots difficult.

I'd like to see this too. I see in a lot of vids people not dropping irrelevant objects to get both hands on the gun. IE officers hanging onto licence/reg while 2 way ranging with suspect or defenders not dropping shopping or phone to engage the threat. And TH, do you ever train in point shooting like WE Fairbairn taught?.

With what happened in Brooklyn, we saw a situation where a public defender with a sidearm went up against an active shooter with a rifle and body armor. How would you guys feel about exploring asymmetric scenarios like that? At what point do you assess armored vs unarmored? Is it viable to intentionally aim for unprotected areas on an armored attacker (head, pelvis)? Is volume of fire with a sidearm a viable tactic? Is it better to rush, move laterally, retreat? Mindset for engaging these kinds of encounters, with the understanding that any tactic is likely to be a losing proposition?

I’m a big fan of James Yeager’s method of practicing drawing and moving laterally simultaneously, and seems like it worked better here too. I also try to practice yelling a simple command (like “stop!”) while drawing as well to make it easier to do in real life.

In this, in my opinion, unrealistic scenario, you may as well say a really quick prayer. You're dead. But even bad guys don't just unload like that. They're not expecting much resistance from somebody just walking down the street. They might pull a gun on you to make sure you comply, but they're first move isn't going to be murder generally. What I think would be interesting to see is if there is a way to pull your gun when someone is holding a gun on you at close range and demanding your wallet, a much more likely scenario. If you had a gun in your pocket, you could pretend to be reaching for your wallet and catch him by surprise. But then you have to ask yourself, are the odds of my survival better if I try something like that or if I just let him take my wallet, tough decision.

Let's face it, criminals are ambush predators. With or without situational awareness we are already at a disadvantage. Being able to draw and shoot fast and accurately is all well and good if you can do so while getting to cover and being able to hit your target. Just remember every bullet has a lawyer attached to it. You are responsible for every round that leaves your gun. Be safe and train, train, train.

I've been in situations where you find yourself in a bad neighborhood or unknown area that has potential hostiles. I was always at the ready, not holstered, but somewhat concealed. As long as you are not "brandishing" a firearm there is no law that says you cannot be at the ready when one perceives a dangerous situation may be in the offing.

I'd love to see first person view videos to go over situational awarness from different perspectives. There is little to nothing on that topic while at least it's mentioned how important it is. That'd be the main factor and that would be also cool training without knowing the exact situation beforehand. In this video the biggest issue was the draw. The holster or the combo with the clothing got in the way. Distance is one's friend even when there is no cover. Lots of stats that survivability increases dramatically for leos cause most attackers aren't good shots.

Hi Folks, Here's deal. Why do we do force on force? Its the point where our omnipresent situational awareness fails. Nobody walks around perfectly aware 100% of the time. If you did you could leave the gun at home. The truth is most of us are thinking about other shit, family problems, car troubles, your boss is a woke asshole who wants a special pronoun and is offended by your toxic masculinity etc..... We train this way for when we have failed our selves and to be able to get back up on step with the situation at hand. Train for the difficult problems not the easy ones. So yes we slant all our situations in favor to the opposition. The scenarios aren't built for you to win but to learn how to assess, move, communicate and shoot under stress. No matter how many scenarios we do, the one you get it in is the one we miss. Remember not all good tactics work and just because you got away with it doesn't mean it's a good tactic. Thanks guys

A reload idea for lefty's. Grab a fresh magazine and grip old one then strip with new magazine and then insert new magazine to mag well. Hit the bolt catch on the left side of the gun. Or if you've got a bolt release on the right side then hit that with your thumb.

Myles take off that huge head gear and let your muscle memory do its job. Remember as soon as he's moving his hand towards his side or backside. You can say there's no reason for this. In a firm, but Calm way. So please stop, at the same time. You should have already went from Yellow to Orange and 100% ready for Red. Almost 100% of all the failures are created by Not watching their hands and foot work. If I'm going to go hand to hand, south paw my right foot will be in the first position. So when I Strike down my vengeance upon thee. They'll receive the rumbling as God has moving clouds and shaking the earth with my right-hand being thunder, than my left-hand lighting between their ear and right eye, the sweet tomatoe spot. To fight you've got to have anger or fear. Tobe a great fighter you've got love to dance and fight with compassion "Muhammad Ali" All boxers, quarter backs, pitchers, gun slingers, everyone, myself included all do the same thing. Watch their opponents hands and feet!!... The moral to my story is. Watch your tell signs and take appropriate actions!!... Widowmaker a man of God. "E Pluribus Unum" D'n Deus Le' Vult!!...

Force on force while pumping gas or while at an ATM machine. I tell my family to stay close to the machine and, turn the wheel to the left. Left foot on the brake, right over the fuel. Setting up to pin the attacker between the building and car, that pain should slow or stop them.
