I'm 56 years old, playing 9 months (900 Player). GM, Mr. Akobian is in my opinion, one of the best beginner chess instructors in the world. This is because he teaches so "you get it". Young or old, you can see people learning with his instruction. These lessons make very solid chess players and for that I'm very appreciative of these videos. Thank you..... SM

Yeah. I find I learn allot more from his videos than from other masters. He goes allot slower and gives you time to work the next move out for yourself rather than just outright telling you what to do.

I'm glad you're all enjoying these videos. We wanted to create a dynamic and engaging online community classroom. Stay tuned for new lectures from GMs Akobian and Seirawan and IM Levan Bregadze!

Love that adorable little girl who keeps identifying the moves so confidently. I bet she's a terror in chess matches. As an adult beginner myself, I found this was a great lecture. Thanks very much.

Varuzhan has probably had enough of strict Eastern-European teaching which only hampers the children's free thought processes. Even if the sweet little girl answers uncorrect every time, he keeps both her and the rest of the class interested, eager and inspired. They are not afraid to answer. They keep their focus for the entire class. I like this approach

Its wonderful, something such as 12:30 ... Varuzhan can hear them thinking ... such patience and paternal concern at their development. The excitement of meeting and being helped by someone so inspirational is a very special opportunity, they are so lucky to meet a good teacher, its a nice feeling.

just want to add my thanks to STLChess club for making these videos available to all of us. And...I must say GM Akobian is a really fine teacher. He has been a great help to me and I hope he will continue making videos of his lectures..His method of waiting and forcing students to think is really what makes him stand out. He really covers all the bases.

I am now in the rabbit hole of Varuzhans teachings as I learn chess, I am compelled to call out the attention needy annoying kid who is quick to be called on often before he even knows what move he will say. If someone knows him, tell him I think expending your excess energy through physical effort might help him think more methodically before attending chess lessons. and yes, this talented little girl gives me hope for humanity. May her endeavors promote world peace.

Well obviously she has no care for social appearance and probably older beginners saw the same moves and keep it to themselves fearing to appear smarter than the others(like in math class some students have already worked out the equations in their heads and don't raise their hands for reasons stated above). Not trying to discredit the young prodigy in anyway... She is a fast leaner.
