Not only is dirty grip tape on your skateboard unsightly, but it can sometimes affect your skating if it gets grungy enough. We'll go over a few quick techniques you can use to clean your grip so you can get back that fresh feeling flick.

In britain, especially winter, this place is rainy as ever and with the rain comes mud. My grip tape has been caked in mud today and i’m still trying to clean it all off lol

You have to add water and dry it off then use grip gum to take off the surface gunk off

I’ve always used the water method. Every time I’ve messed with grip gum though, I was really impressed. Just one of those things I always forget to buy

I was really impressed how bad water is in cleaning the grip tape if you dont use the towel method. Even then the gum is superior in cleaning dust. But when it is really dirty you need that water but still

i just went longboarding in the morning at the park and it had recently stopped raining. My brother wanted to give it a go so he put his wet shoes on my longboard, his shoes had tiny bits of leaves stuck to it and once he finished using it there was stains and bits of broken leaves everywhere, i didn’t think too much of it until now, im now struggling to remove it, i’ve attempted using wipes but they’re leaving scratches on the board and it’s not really doing anything. Any idea what i could do?

The methods in this video should get the job done. Grip gum should be able to get it out fine, but if you don't have any (or don't want to get any) you can try the old tooth brush method to get in between the crevices of the grip. 👍

The other day my board slipped off under a car and ended up picking a lot of grease and stuff from the pipes. Do I need to worry for my deck? It’s not wet or anything, just some stains.

Grip gum is imo, better than a belt sander block as those are much more expensive. The only guy I know who owns a sander block is a camera guy who works with a bunch of local sponsored skaters so he's helping someone clean their board almost every day lol

Of course! Any grip we sell should last the lifetime of the deck. Of course it'll still wear out if you're landing in darkslides and chipping up your deck, but that's normal. Cheers! www.tactics.com/grip-tape

if im getting a 8.0 deck with 31 mm wide wheels will they stick out if I use 139 indys?

Nah, you'll be fine. 31mm isn't a particularly wide wheel, and the Indy 139s will fit perfectly on your 8.0 deck. 👍 - Tim

What's on your grip? If nothing is working, you could just peel off the grip and regrip the board with a fresh sheet.

I stained the tape with WD-40 removing a stuck bolt. I cleaned it as instructed, but the stain didn’t budge.

When using the grip block do you need to wet it and what about after use what do you do with a dirty grip block?

You do not need to wet the grip gum block. The block does not absorb the dirt, but more like rubs it off like a durable pencil eraser, so the dirty bits usually crumble off the block. But I'm not going to say that the grip gum stays nice and clean all the time. You can keep it in a ziplock if you're concerned about the dirt, but I just keep mine loose in my skate bag and it's fine. Cheers! - Tim

I'm sure it'll come out if you use the tiny bit of water and the toothbrush technique shown in the video. The board in the video had energy drink spilled all over it (along with mud) but after scrubbing it out, I couldn't see the liquid stains on it anymore. So I hope it works for you too! 👍 - Tim

You can, but the grip will disintegrate the pencil rubber in 2 seconds and it probably won't last long enough to fully clean the grip. - Tim
