I recently bought one of these along with a Trek Domane, and had already watched another of your (excellent) videos on Neo trainers when trying to get it set up - but I felt compelled to leave thanks here because not even a minute in, you've already provided far more information than Tacx themselves did. Here I was faffing about, failing to make their included adapter work with my thru-axle frame, when I should have just inserted the bike's own all along! The manuals for these are *terribly* lacking. So, thanks for all the other information - and the nifty factory shots! - but thanks too for explaining what the makers themselves did not see fit to. Made my evening. ;D

Tacx reply to me saying i just bought the Neo 2, and that i was not happy "We are sorry to hear this. But the only difference is that you don't have to use the special thru axle adapter when your bike has 12 mm thru axles. So please do not worry you still have a very good trainer with all same support and firmware updates."

My New 2T arrived on Tuesday and I did my first ride on Wednesday. The powers numbers seemed to be -1/+1 against my favero Assioma duo power pedals. I say seemed because I didn’t use a overlay program to compare the data I just simply looked at the two screens while I rode. Overall I’m very happy with it. Also I was unable to get any wheel slip which is great. I’m not a sprinter by any means but I tried to get it to slip from short burst of power to about 1200 watts and it held firm. Also the erg mode felt a little more sudden then my kickr when it engages but not much difference there. Overall I like it better then the kickr.

I purchased a Tacx Neo 2 in February with the expectation that Tacx would be unleashing new tech through software or firmware updates over time. With the launch of the Neo 2T only a few months later, I wanted to reach out to someone who might have an inside scoop on whether we Neo 2 owners should expect to be screwed for new features, or if Tacx still intends to provide much anticipated releases like the road surface release they did with the original Neo. Thanks for your insight!

Awsome vid Shane! At 7:52 you mention the way the flywheel goes bananas when you wind things up and stop pedaling. What did you do to stop this? It really only started on my Neo 2 after I applied the .27 update. This morning I finished training and had my shoes and HRM off well before the flywheel stopped spinning. At one point I thought it was stuck in a simulated descent. Edit: It seems to hover around the 7km/hr mark for an extended period. I'm guessing that's to help with the slipping in the older units.

Thanks so much for this review. I too have the NEO 2T and vector 3 pedals and have noticed the 10 or so watt difference. I recently put a bike on the trainer that has the new Sram AXS Quarq power meter and noticed the exact same thing. I called Garmin and they had no answers for me. I thought maybe i was doing something wrong. Seeing this video and looking at your tests let me know that the Neo 2T just has that much difference in the reading. Is there anything i can do on Zwift that will compensate for the difference? I don't want to give up the Neo 2T. I love everything about it just give me the extra 10 to 15 watts :-)

I was on the fence between Wahoo Kickr 2018 and Tacx Neo 2 but after pouring hours researching online, it seems that the Kickr 2018 has a lot of problems (even though they said it was fixed). There's people that are on their 3rd, 4th, and even 5th unit after the revised S/N. I was really hoping for Wahoo to announce a 2019/2020 model for EuroBike this week but apparently they were too busy developing the Kickr Bike. But since Tacx announced the Neo 2T and your review looks positive, I decided to place a pre-order at Clever Training. Now I just need to endure the outdoors for another month until it arrives. Its now 2021, has firmware addressed accuracy issues?
@Jazzysoda

We just got a new NEO2 T and both my wife and I immediately found it "Harder" (reading LOWER watts) than our usual bike mounted STAGES - so we just tested everything side by side and sure enough there is a 15-20 watt gap between the 2 sources (again with Neo reading LOWER). This is baffling to us for a couple of reasons and since I referred to this video as part of our shopping process I wanted to share this as your 1 critique was related to power accuracy! We have latest firmware installed on the new Neo2T, and using our freshly calibrated STAGES Power Meters & Stages APP, you can see a very consistent 15-20 watt difference. I was under the general impression that Smart Trainer (integrated) Power Meters would almost always read HIGHER (more generously) than any Bike Mounted Power Meter (True? False?) so this comes as a real surprise. My hunch: since the sole purpose of this new "T" model is to address the former slippage issue, perhaps they have somehow "overshot" with the base calibration in the process? IS there a way to calibrate this thing NEO2T or are we stuck with this reading? For now we have to continue using our STAGES power meters in order to ensure consistency with our data (we've been using our STAGES indoors and out for years now). Thoughts!?!?

@@gplama single sided - but we each have different strong and weak legs so one of us should be "high" and the other "low" when doubling Stages number, no? Even then, 20 watts is a monster gap IMO. For consistency sake we'll have to stick to our Stages for now - just can't believe its so far off!

Were you using ERG Power Smoothing on the Kickr? That is enabled by default and will show an artificial flat line when in ERG. Power will bounce up and down depending on how smooth you are. The 2T is a little rougher than the Kickr.... Also update the 2T with the latest firmware (0.32 I believe).

Nitpickers Corner: When you compare accuracy of the Neo and Vector 3 you have to aggregate the error margins of both devices. So the difference in watts allowed is not 1% but 2%.
@gplama
@gplama 4 жыл бұрын
Assuming both are off by the maximal allowable percentage, in opposing directions. With the Vector 3 being two independent power meters, the chances of that happening to a maximum of 2% is... low. I'd think. Either way, this didn't match the performance of the Neo 1 across four pedal based meters, and two other crank power meters. Work still to be done I think.

Hello guys! I just bought 2 neo 2ts, but after first inspection, I have a few questions regarding compatibility with carbon fiber mountain bikes. I saw that, unlike some of the competitors, the endcaps on the neo are fixed in place, they do not rotate freely in the trainer hub. So, given that a mountain bike, even with the fork locked out, has more up and down pivoting, I feel that it could cause the endcaps to eat into the frame, damaging the dropouts... any experience using the neo2t with carbon fiber mountain bikes? Do I worry for nothing? Thank you!

Tacx claims 142mm thru axle compatibility but then is providing a 2.7mm spacer because the rear caliper touches the unit. This effectively turns the trainer into a 144.7mm which is off with most current disc bikes of 142mm which as a consequence creates several problems (misalingned chainline, thru axle that does not attach entirely, tension in the rear trinagle of the bike - especially for those carbon bikes). Any comments on that? Thanks
@gplama
@gplama 4 жыл бұрын
I’ve been watching the comments posted everywhere on this in the last few weeks. I don’t have to use the spacers on the TCR. The 144.7mm ‘solution’ doesn’t sound ideal. I’ll leave it to Tacx Support to address this. There’s nothing I can contribute further, it’s their issue to resolve.

I guess that the new magnets are bigger by a few percentage based on the shapes 🤔Also, Neo 2 has discount on it on some other platforms, and based on the pictures in the video, it looks like it doesn't worth to manufacture the two different flywheel with that many differences, so I expect Neo 2 to be discontinued (also, the same pricing suggest that)

@gplama

I minimise it by using a clean chain, clean drivetrain, a straight chain-line for the ERG testing, etc. It should never be more than a few watts which is most times within the measurement accuracy range of the power meters/trainers used.

The Neo requires tools to switch from TA to QR. I don't believe the cassette needs to come off for that. The Wahoo Kickrs are likely a much easier solution. I bought a tacx neo 2t last week, when I do workouts (ERG mode) in Zwift the power fluctuates a lot, for example if it is an interval at 180W the power goes up to 185, 190, 200 ... and more or also drops to 170 , 160, 150 ... For warranty I changed the equipment thinking that I had a problem with the power and they gave me a new one but the same thing happens. What can be?
