Couldn’t afford the TADs so opted for the KEF Ref 1 Meta. I’m not saying they are even close based on reviews but will say my Metas driven by my QSV4 tube amps, KT-150s(4/side), sounds glorious! Thanks House of Stereo, with special shout out to Joe Parvey for making it happen! D/S

Hey D, i’m looking for the area where your comment is missing and cannot find it. We are not deleting your comments at all, we’re happy to have you! I don’t know if this is a glitch, but I figured I’d reach out on a comment that I could find, hoping you’ll see it.

@@houseofstereojaxNope not at all, problem was on my end. I reposted and all is well. My posts are never negative which surprised me when I thought it was deleted, but in fact it wasn’t, just misplaced. Love my new Ref 1 Metas and my experience with House of Stereo was exemplary.

@@De132an The Reference 1 Meta's are an exceptional speaker. KEF was one of my first loves, and the Reference series really came alive with the Meta update. Enjoy them!

Great video! You have a nice laid back presentation style. At approx. 6:10 in the video you ponder if TAD could/would bring out a CE1 style floorstander, because you rightly remark at 6:35 that it's a different animal vs. the ME1 and the E1-TX which both feature the micro CST driver and not the original size CST that the CE1 has. TAD has actually already created a "CE1 floorstander" 18 years ago, in 2005. This was around the time Andrew Jones was still at TAD/Pioneer. It was called the Pioneer S1-EX and featured the original CST + two 7" woofers. They also had a Pioneer S2-EX in the same line, which was a standmount with same configuration as your CE1 (full-size CST + one 7" woofer) and the S7-EX which was a center speaker with the same drivers as the S1-EX. The Pioneers were a relatively bargain, ironically marketed as home theater speakers instead of Hifi, but sold poorly due to the Pioneer name and they were quickly discontinued around 2009-2010. After discontinuing the S1-EX, TAD released the original CE1 (not to be confused with the current-range CE1-TX) which had exactly the same driver configuration, but was vastly more expensive than the S1-EX because of the TAD badge. All great speakers. You can still read the product page of the CE1 in TAD's archived products website. Unfortunately, it appears TAD is spending most of its recent efforts developing "cheaper" products with each iteration. The E1-TX and the ME1 are both a step down from the original Evolution linup due to the micro CST. The E2 is again a step down as it no longer has a CST but simply a "conventional" beryllium tweeter + two 6,5" woofers. If TAD continues on this trend, their next speaker will be a "Micro Evolution 2".

This is great information, and it is certainly appreciated - I wish we had more commenters like you to help fill in some blanks on historical actions taken by the audio brands. This kind of institutional knowledge predates me in the industry, and though I do pick up bits and pieces whenever I talk to veterans like Andrew at shows, piecing together a full picture takes time. I don't know what the future will hold for TAD's Compact line (and a hopeful move upward) - but I would like to see TAD capitalize on the amazing success of this TX update to challenge a lot of the more mainstream products at the sub-$85k price point. That being said, my time with the E1 and E2 speakers has been very positive. I have moved from the original CE1's to the ME1's, then the E2 and now the CE1-TX in my home listening, and I still really like the E2's, for their size and their price, I'd be hard pressed to pick a more well-rounded floor stander at $20K. If I had to move the CE1's back out, I'd be very happy to have the E2's back. - joe parvey

@@houseofstereojax Thanks! I have no doubt the all TAD speakers are well designed, but my point is that TAD's "trend" in recent years has been downward (cost-cutting) from a technology perspective (i.e. original CST (E1 and CE1) --> micro CST (E1TX and ME1) --> traditional beryllium tweeter (E2)). Hitting a certain price point in the market is challenging, especially with the inflation of the past 1,5 years + prices in Hifi especially massively trending upwards. I also have to correct myself in my previous comment, the following sentence: "After discontinuing the S1-EX, TAD released the original CE1." should have been "After discontinuing the S1-EX, TAD released the original E1." To summarize the models purely from the perspective of the driver configuration (ignoring cabinet differences etc.): - Pioneer S1-EX = TAD E1 (non-TX) - Pioneer S2-EX = TAD CE1 (non-TX) The E1 was discontinued and TAD no longer has a floorstander with the same driver configuration in its current range. the E1-TX is a "downgrade" due to the smaller woofers and the micro CST.

No doubt! The Lambs have a warmth and naturalness that could do well with solid-state or a high end tube. Ref 6 or 10 or T+A's P3100 HV are going to be our daily driver.
