I respect the mans work some of his buildings are absolutely brilliant, however whats simply referred to as 'the Berlin wall' by some in my city is the pavilion and water feature he designed for Piccadilly gardens Manchester, admittedly the pavilion isn't the sole reason that ruins the space however it creates a large ugly barrier right in the centre of the space.

In what was is what I'm saying populist, nationalist or anything to do with Brexit? I'm a remainer, I don't care for populism and I am certainly not a fucking nationalist. Are you from or have you ever lived in Manchester? Protect or present his architecture in the way it deserved? The Council owes him nothing but the fee for his work, they paid him to do a job so he works for them, a retail unit was always part of the plans, also I stated this isn't the only thing to be detrimental to Piccadilly Gardens but its a big part of it. A bleak monolithic wall isn't going to work as a piece of PUBLIC architecture an a large open space/thoroughfare. I personally advocate protecting the structure and moving it out of the city centre either to Heaton, Buile Hill or the Meadows Park as it would work much better at any of those, obviously with a Tory gov this wont happen but nevertheless I think it should be saved. I think when removed from its current context it is a beautiful pavilion.

I just saw the new proposition, frankly it felt a wee bit too ambitious. all that light and green space, maybe that "Berlin wall" actually made sense in nowadays times, and to the state of the uk in general. but also, with my little knowledge, Id say Mr Ando made works that interacted better with its surrounding then he did in your city. Anyway good luck that you will get something people feel more connected too, and that works for them. @@LeWiS2K9SMUDGEMOONED
