You did a great job showing the installation of the valve and talking about the system. I expected that you would also show the thermostat installation. And maybe a little more of the app.

Missed a trick here guys. The whole point of a smart TRV is that you can then have a room stat in every room. The problem with traditional TRV’s is their close proximity to the radiator prevents them from accurately measuring the room temperature. All you have done is change the analogue control dial to a digital app. People want a wireless thermostat in every room which can measure the temperature of the room and then wirelessly control the radiator valve. There is no need for the radiator valve to have a thermostat. The boiler controls the water temperature anyway, radiators should just be ON/OFF
@farysely
@farysely Жыл бұрын
Not all homes have their own boiler. Some are connected to a central heating system of their city (which only blasts super hot water at your home). Your point about the thermostat being too close to the radiator is a really good one tho. The best system, I think, should incorporate these TRVs and a wireless thermostat unit in different parts of the home.
@cglees
@cglees Жыл бұрын
@William Tell i understand how it works. It’s trying to reinvent the wheel. Much better moving the temperature sensor away from the heat source to accurately measure the temperature of the room not just the air next to the radiator

Once you've configured your internet bridge using the ethernet cable and router does the bridge have to stay connected to the router via an ethernet cable or can you disconnect it and it will connect via wifi to your router?
5 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the nice review! I have 2 questions. First of all, how good is the range (the signal strength) of the valves? I'm personally using Netatmo smart valves and the range is very disappointing. The signal barely passes through 2 thick walls. Does Tado have the same problem? Do Tado valves communicate in chain or only directly with the internet bridge? Another important question is: can the Tado valves request the boiler to turn on when the valves determine that they need heat in their radiator? Or does the boiler follow its own schedule and the valves can only act as limiters on the radiators, completely dependent on the boiler's own decision to turn on/off? Thanks!
@gchecosse
@gchecosse 2 жыл бұрын
Exactly, my question is the converse: can you leave the boiler on full blast all year and if none of the radiators are calling for hot water will the boiler turn off?

Thinking of delving into the smart home setup for my heating. At the moment I have the programmer / control panel in my hallway, boiler in the bathroom and a dial controller/thermostat in the living room. Am I right in thinking if I used one of the Radiator Thermostats the current system / programmer would need to be set to 'constant' to ensure the boiler provided hot water to the radiator ?

If the temperature sensor is on the TRV, and the TRV is right next to the radiator, surely it would sense it reaching the temp limit way before the actual room does? Does it have remote temp sensors?
@gygabytes
@gygabytes 5 жыл бұрын
Most TRVs work like that. The actual temp of the room is not that much affected by the radiator as the sensor is based on air flow. the heat of the radiator pushes the hot air up and therefore the TRV is not that much affected like any other TRV actually. To answer your question, you can install a Smart Thermostat in the room and combine the TRVs of that room with that thermstat. when the thermostat no longer needs heat, it will close these smart TRVs

@davidnaylor83

Just like with your old thermostats, no communication is really necessary. If the radiators don't draw any heat, the central heating unit won't need to produce any.

A couple of questions, do you need to bleed the system first? And secondly how often do you need to recharge the battery?
@adriankeeling1476
@adriankeeling1476 4 жыл бұрын
No need to bleed the system, it just replaces the existing TRV. The batteries should last about 1 year but it really depends on ow well your property is insulated because poor insulation will require the valves to operate more frequently. I recommend Energiser ultimate lithium batteries as they are the longest lasting batteries on the market.

how does the radiator thermostat set the proper temperature if it stays so close from the radiator itself? I mean, depending on the size of the radiator and the size of the room, the temperature in the opposite position of the room will be different from the temperature near the radiator.
@Keito303
@Keito303 5 жыл бұрын
You have to assume that the radiators were properly matched to the room size. All TRVs have the problem of proximity to the radiator but if the radiator is creating a convection air current them it will have cooler air coming in at floor level. See also reply above.

Where is the questioning thinking? - to ask for instance why have rad stats having to communicate with the home network through Tado's wireless receiver (effectively establishing a single purpose home wireless network) rather than using an existing wireless home network? And why use up a wired port? The arrangement you show will be fine in a studio flat with no infrastructure, but in a large house some rad stats are bound to be 'out of sight' of the 'internet bridge' or will burn their batteries trying to reach it. Which is all a bit pointless if there's already a home network wireless repeater with bandwidth available on the same floor. What about discussion of the suitability of temperature sensing on the radiator itself as opposed to with a room stat? Or the widespread reports of false 'window open' alerts? Or that in a gadget supposed to help you be "ecologically friendly" (your words) it won't support the lower voltage of NiMH rechargeable batteries? I learnt very little, because you gave us not a REVIEW (which implies some critical thinking being applied) but instead an uncritical gushy 'fabulous features' sales pitch. Are you really in any position to offer a review of this when you've had it for a week and by your own admission, it hasn't done any of its primary function of temperature control yet? Finally, the music/musak is distracting and irritating. What is it FOR, exactly? - do you think we've so little going on between the ears that some mindless pap is needed to fill the empty space? Or are you worried that what you have to say or its delivery is so banal as to need supplementation? No - stop - don't answer the last question.
