Terry, Read about this V912 mod on RC groups. I just did this when I was putting in my new F45 motor. I drilled out the center hole to 1/16 on a V911 tail rotor and mounted it on the motor shaft, zip tied the wires for clearance. Flue the heli , motor is way cool ! I give this a must do. Peace

Hi Terry, I purchased a WL V912 after Xmas and I've been flying it every chance I get and it is fun and I'm a beginner at heli flying I also fly airplanes. I've watched your videos and took your suggestion of cutting away pieces around the motor and add the toggle switch to the radio and it has helped my flying experiences although I did burn up original motor right after I did mod but had extra and replacement was easy. I would like to mention I up graded my lipo battery with a 1300mAh and I get a good 10 min. of flying time which is good for a beginner I also modified the rear vertical tail fin with a 1/6 in. plywood piece I trace out of the original fin and put it on and it has seem to have given it more stability. Well keep up the good works on your videos and HAPPY FLYING

A Baller: Wow sounds like your a true RC Heli pilot. Glad to see you modified your heli. Hope all that helps you to enjoy you heli more more. When I ungraded my battery's my main original motor seem to burn out a lot faster. I would like more feed back from others out there if they are having the same problem. With running the MJX-F45 motor I was going to try and 1000mAh battery to see if it would last. With your 1300mAh battery are you running the MJX-F45 main motor? Good video Terry,i just did all these mods-(the plastic above motor and the side metal these are both real good mods ,but i go one further to help cool motor and to extend motor life,which is i put a small drop of oil on the top and botttom of motor shaft every 2 or 3 flights, as i mentioned this will extend motor life as well,thanks for youre video very informative.

hi terry, i have purchased 2 912s and they are great helis for the price. i stumbled across your vids on utube and immediately made this mod to both, needless to say i'm very pleased with these mods they were very simple to make.. i did not use my dremel though i found that a small pair of side cutters works even better, (just make sure not to clip any wires) thanks now i'm a subscriber....

Sure thing, I will keep you updated with some comments on this thread if I do pick one up. That said...it would only be in the spring/summer as I am new to RC heli's and still awaiting delivery on my second coaxial (Litehawk XL). The first heli I got is a micro help - 'DFD F103 Avatar', of which I am still training on...lol As for replacing the battery on the BL edition, looks like a major PITA...not exactly user friendly for trips to the park with a couple of spare batteries in-hand. Quite honestly I can't imagine picking one up until they re-design the layout and clean it up a bit. As I noted earlier I really want to see the BL tail rotor also, from what I gather this is a heavy bird which is why the brushed motors burn out so quickly if the heli is being piloted aggressively. Suffice to say I have some serious flight time to log before I am ready to move on to the bigger more nimble birds like the V912 BL. Anyways, thanks for your feedback TBT! Keep up the good work brother, your vids are informative, clear, and appreciated!

steve vandveer: Only problem I had with tail motor is when it went bad and slowed down. I don't know if F645 will fit, I do know lots of the MJX-F45 parts can fit. Just a thought: Make sure your tail blades are not hitting the ground on take off, this is a common problem with the V912. Just add a piece of plastic on the very back down fin on the V912 to keep the blades higher off the ground during take off. When my grass gets very high here I take off from a piece of board so the tail blades do not hit or pick up debris.
@milesnoell2137

Terry L For what it's worth, I just took the tail fin off, drilled some new holes, and reattached it in a vertical position. When it points straight down It holds the tail prop about a centimeter off the ground, which has greatly improved my ability to take off from grass.
@TerrrrrrryLLLLLLLLLL
@TerrrrrrryLLLLLLLLLL 9 жыл бұрын
Miles Noell great idea Miles. I know guys glued a piece of plastic on that tail fin so the tail blade would not hit anything on take off. I have a piece of wood I toss down and take off from it and I also built out of a old bar stool a heli pad for take offs. I like the bar stool as I don't have to bend down for any of my heli's. On my V977 review I featured that stool as lead in picture.

I got this V912 from a friend, who crashed it, so it was free. The rudder is extremely touchy, just touch the stick and it will spin around. I did get it hovering, so it fly's but the tail is out of control I did the mod and ordered the motor you suggested, also ordered a new main board, thanks too the great price at Banggood it is affordable too try and fix this problem, and get this old bird in the air.

Does anyone know where the heat sinks can purchased for the main (and tail) motors? I found a site that sells heat sinks for the MJX F46...and I am fairly certain they would fit on the V912, but if anyone can confirm it would be appreciated!

Hey there Terry. One thing that occurred to me is that in all the heli mods videos I've seen, nobody seems to point out the longer arms on the swash. Maybe it's just so obvious that it doesn't qualify as a mod (of course I'm the kind of person who didn't notice the turbo button either, so maybe I'm just a little slow on the uptake). All my helis seem to come from the factory hooked up to the shorter arms, so I always end up switching them to the longer arms for more aggressive flight.

Terry, I don't have the the 912 yet, but it's coming soon, anyways , watching your video , couldn't you have just bent them metal tabs in to touch the motor. I think it would act the same as a heat sink, the hole metal frame is very large , I don't know because I can't see it very well, also the transmitter mod you did on this aircraft turbo switch installation , I'm going to do the same on my V915, I think it's the same, another thing do you have any more mods for the V915, I'm working on a few , but not looking to good, just isn't any room , heat is a big issue on that ship. I'm going to put the esky 370 super motor in , do you have any advice on these items , thankyou ROTOR HEAD FRED

Thanks Terry! Thinking about picking up the V912 brushless...seems to be pretty favourable reviewed...though the ESC is in a real nasty position and tie wrapped right to the LiPo!! How silly...that is a rush design for sure! Not a whole lot room to re-locate it. Also, would be nice if they offered a model that had a brushless tail rotor also. I suspect won't be long before they do, and at the same maybe find a better home for the main ESC. So stupid..that PCB will fail in no time with it sitting in the position its at now, and I am not a fan of fastening it elsewhere because it could impact CG and/or bring about other problems. You planning on picking one up? (V912BL)
@TerrrrrrryLLLLLLLLLL
@TerrrrrrryLLLLLLLLLL 9 жыл бұрын
Chris E: Yea my battery in my V912 emits a lot of heat and I was wondering how that would effect the ESC long term. They took a regular V912 and just added the brushless motor and ESC without redesigning the heli. I am sure it was the cheapest way to go. I also wonder how hard it is replacing the battery and If you have to use a new wire tie every time. I still think its a better heli but time will tell. Let us know how you like it if you get one. Hi Terry always enjoy your video's. Just want too asked about the MJXF 45 motor with a bigger gear on it, will it fit straight in or must you change the gear, it has tooth more, Also I did notice the wire's are reversed on the motor, but the also reversed the wires on the little plug going too the mainboard, so you don't have too do any soldering Looking forward too your Replies

Ruudy Leek: Thanx brotha on the great comment about my videos. I try to answer all questions asked on in my comment section. Yea they MJX-F45 you have to switch wires at the motor or at the connector whatever works for you. I have even switched them in the middle between the motor and connector. As far as fitting up the MXJ-F45 motor, it will fit up without any mods. Its a little tight but will fit nicely where the original V912 motor was mounted. One pilot to another...Fly Hard Brotha...TBT

Hi Terry, I had this machine as a beginner heli. It flies very fast and had a really nasty crashed. It flew into a bush at high speed. I went ga ga and forgot to close the throttle. It had a burnt smell which l knew it has to be the motor burnt. My fear the board get bad too so went to the hobby shop asking for the board replacement. The guy told me it cost $20 to replace and the heli V912 set with the controller only cost $55. I bought the new set hoping to make as a spares shud the new heli need some parts replacement. I flew my new V912 quite high up about 70 feet up circling my house at high speed. I lost sight as it went behind the trees. Fearing it will fall on the neighbour's cars i brought it further out. Lost control. To my horror the heli landed high speed on the roof of the neighbours about 150 feet away with a very loud thud. I imagine picking up the pieces on the roof and the angry neighbour . As climb up the ladder saw it only broke half of the landing skid and the canopy separated from tne fuselage. The rest ALL intact , the tailboom the rotors bla bla. Put it on the floor and restart and it flew as though as nothing had happen. Highly recommended model to all. A great machine.

Btw I live in Malaysia which is closer to China and it is a lot cheaper down here. Complete set WL Toys V912 cost $USD 55 and V911 cost $35. I ve own maybe 4 or 5 models before and nothing come close to V912. Probably I will buy a few so that my future grandchildren can fly it.

reachingoutsho shox: Wow that's great story about how this heli holds up to crashes. It sounds like you fly a lot and are having a lots of fun. I own 3 of these and crashed mine very hard at times. A couple spare parts here and there and I am back in the air. I did crash one of mine into a 30ft high tree. The heli did survive but it shook when the blades were spinning. Since I had so many hours of flying that heli I just did not want to put any money back into it. I used it for spare parts and got one of my new V912's in the air. I will never be without a V912 but my next one will be brushless...Fly Har Brotha...TBT

i had a couple questions about my v912 first i noticed the tail skipping and it eventually stopped working so it would spin out. i changed the gear and it still spun out. it completely stopped when i was testing it and now won't even bind.
@TerrrrrrryLLLLLLLLLL
@TerrrrrrryLLLLLLLLLL 10 жыл бұрын
PS3GamerOGBoogie: I had to replace my tail motor more than the gear. The tail blade can hit on take off taking out the tail motor faster. I usually use a board or hard surface instead of grass for take offs. For some odd reason if you have battery attached and heli switched on I believe the main board can blow up fast during testing. I don't know if it comes from static from your body or maybe your hand conducting voltage across the main board when your hand is moved over it. I blew 2 main boards out this way as the heli would not bind anymore. Any work on my V912 make sure the switch is off and battery disconnect. If testing with power on be carful where you place your hands. Any time mine would not bind it was always the main board. I have 3 V912's and would swap parts around to make sure what parts were bad. CANANDALINKS98: The V912 is a blast to fly. Its bigger and has few issues but these are easily solved. I have had more fun out of the V912 out side flying than the V911 mainly because of wind. Let me know how you feel about the V912 after a couple flights. Order a extra motor MJX-F45 and when your original V912 motor goes bad install the MJ-F45 the heli will be faster and even more fun. I now have 122 flights on my V912 and its still one of my favorite helis to fly Runways, runways we don't need no stinking runways Tail Boom Terry

Hi Terry, Great job on your videos! I've found them very helpful in learning how to fly and repair my v912. I just replaced my first set of motors and tail gear, after about 30-40 flights. Have you flown the F45 motor long enough to know if it really lasts any longer? I flew most of my flights so far with the stock battery, but I also found a 2200 mah battery that only weighs like 60 grams more than the stock battery. Just strapped it to the belly with rubber bands. I've flown this rig 5 times so far and I really like it. The motor might not like the extra weight, but I think it helps make it a little more stable in the wind too. I haven't pushed the battery yet, but I think I'll get run times of 15-18 min. I saw that Banggood has a brushless kit for the MJX-F45. Do you know if that kit will go in the v912? Seems like it should, since those motors are interchangable. I was thinking I might try that next, if I keep burning up motors. Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated. Thanks! Don

Can't weigh in on brushless motor for the V912. I use the MJX-F45 in mine. I have about 35 flights on it so far with no issues. I do know there is someone else that put a brushless motor in a V912 and they posted a video on it. They had to mod the heli big time and used a larger battery. I don't know if its worth all the trouble as the main motors are not expensive and a easy install. With all the mods I wonder what would happen if you crash itMay all your flights be above the deck.Tail Boom Terry

Make sure you look at my motor temps. I leave my V912 cool down with a fan blowing over it for at least 20 minutes and on very hot days 40 minutes or so before putting it back in the air. If you don't let the motors cool down the main or tail or both will burn out. Also make sure your batteries are cooled down before charging them Wings are for woosies Tail Boom Terry

Aaarg! I just learned a hard lesson, but maybe I can spare someone else the pain. I was loading a new battery into my V912 and the white jack of the charging cable bumped the prongs of one of the capacitors where they stick through the bottom of the PCB board. The battery contacts must have lined up just right with the wires from one of the capacitors. A puff of smoke and it was too late. I fried the board. :-( At least Banggood carries the PCB boards in their US warehouse so the replacement will come quickly. My next board is going to get a wrap of tape or heat shrink so I can't accidentally touch those wires that protrude through the bottom of the board. Live and learn...

Miles Noell Wow sorry for your bad misfortune. I know even with the switch turned to the off position the board still seems to have some power can still fry. I learned the hard way always always unplug and remove the battery in the V912 when working on it or making adjustments.

@milesnoell2137 9 жыл бұрын
The battery wasn't even plugged into anything yet. It was just a freak accident. The spacing of the wires and the prongs perfectly aligned and it only took a moment for it to deliver power where it wasn't meant to be to fry the circuitry.

Joe Leon: Sorry to hear about your crash. If it worked fine before the crash and does not work now only thing in common is the battery. There where I would start to look. The battery is not charging. I had that happen to me on a battery for my v912. One of the solder connections broke on the black wire. I soldered it back on and it solved the problem. Check to make sure all the wires are ok from the battery to connector. Maybe one of them got cut during the crash or the connector might have got damaged. Also do you have more than one battery to try? If all the wires are good and connector is good try charging for 2 hours and see if it takes a charge. Make sure you remove the battery from the heli for all tests. If all else fails try share battery if you have one or buy one as you will always use it. Let us know how you make out. Hey Terry. We both share the same first name too. LOL. Anyway, I've been flying radio control aircraft on and off since college and I'm 56 years old. I started with the fixed wing stuff, then got into copters a few years ago. I have several three channel copters and a 6 channel. The 6 channel, quite frankly, is just too hard for me to control. I'm a private pilot too. So, I'm targeting a nice 4 channel I can fly outdoors in my backyard. I've watched several of your videos. I've been looking at the V912 and the double horse 9116.. I'd like to keep the cost sub $100.. Any suggestions on which I should purchase? I know the larger the craft, the better they can handle slight winds.. Thanks...

MrPolymers: Glad to meet you. I can't comment on the double horse 91126 as I don't own any. I feel you just can't beat the V912. Is it a perfect Heli no way by any means but for the cost it flies great and holds up well. I believe these Helis are about 71.00 with no shipping charges out of banggood. Shop around on the net you may find better deal. I know the BNF are 42.99 so if you destroy the one your flying don't put a ton of money repairing it just get a BNF. Once you get the hang of flying it there are lots of parts to make it go faster and tricks you can learn off the net to even make it handle better. I am 57 years old and own 3 V912's they are my favorite Heli to fly out side in my back yard. Add a camera for some great pics. I also own two 6 channel Helis. I can fly them but they are much more tinkering & much harder to fly but I do ok with them. If I want to have just plain old fun I fly my V9122's "Wings are for woosies" Tail Boom Terry

Terry.. I'm also looking at the V913 which is larger. Cost around $83.99. I'd like to place one of those small micro video cameras on it. I'm a motovlogger and if you visit my channel, you'll see I primarily take videos of the three motorcycle/scooter clubs I belong too. I'm part of a group of motovloggers on KZfaq. Anyway, another KZfaq guy who really has some nice video footage off many of his fixed wing planes has advised me taking video off the fixed pitch choppers won't be good. He's tried several times with craft as large as the T-Rex 450 which I know is similar in size to my 6 channel. I don't wish to invest in a small micro camera that will not work. I may get the heli first and try taping weights on the nose to see if I can get the lift. I love to fly both the fixed wing and heli's. It's finding the room and property to fly the airplanes that poses a problem for me. Around here in Canton, OH, most of the schools/parks, etc. have banned flying aircraft due to insurance reasons. I've been chased off a time or two. ;) Terry

Ruudy Leek: Thanks this video as made long before the brushless version of the V912 came out. They still sell the brushed version as it's fairly cheap. This video is for early versions and people that still buy the brushed version. One pilot to another...Fly Hard Brotha...TBT

What does the button on the right "shoulder" of the TX do? I've never even noticed it before.

Miles Noell : Since this transmitter can be used more than one WL Toys product it may or it may not do anything depending on what your flying. I know the right top push button is used to turn on and off the leds (lights) on my WL Toys V959 quad and some other quads. On the V912 it is an accelerator button to make the Heli go faster. I did a conversion video on adding a switch so you don't have to hold this button down all the time to make the heli go faster kzfaq.info/get/bejne/d9Jjgt2pq5vXj5c.html I did this mod to all my V912 & V913 transmitters. I'm flying a brushed motor V912, and faster sounds good to me! Faster blade speed or faster forward? Since replacing my burnt out stock motor with an MJX replacement the up/down power has been improved a little, but I often find that the heli has trouble cutting through even relatively light winds. I already switched to the longer connector balls on the swash, removed the delta shaped decoration from the tail (I'm considering pulling the tail supports too), and adjusted the forward/back servo link down until it idles with a forward drift to try to get a little more speed out of it. I've considered weighting the nose, and I saw a mod to mount the battery a little further forward, but haven't gotten there yet.

Miles Noell I was also checking out a vid suggesting bending the tips of the flybar inward, which I am guessing reduces the gyro stabilization effect, but the guy in the vid speaks another language so I'm not sure if I understood the point. Thanks for the vid and the advice!

Miles Noell I heard guys were bending the fly bar to prevent the fly bar from striking the canopy causing either canopy damage or erratic flight. I do know one guy that bent the fly bar up had I had problems specially with the up bent fly bar when in windy condition = Loss of control and crash.

Terry, I replaced the motor as you recommended. I also applied a little heat sink grease to the heat sink. I notice that the heat sink does not stay tight against the motor, I get as much as 1/32" gap at front of motor. The temp gets up to 143 DEG on the heat sink both sides of motor and front. I never took a temp on just the new motor by itself. I did all the mods you suggested. Is heat sink suppose to be tight against the motor and if so how to attain that tightness. That aluminum is so thin that I am reluctant to bend it out of the round shape to bring the sides in a little to increase tightness that way. Also I only get 30 yds of distance with radio system yet I have seen other videos of a 912 flying around a field with much distance and speed. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you for your posts of the helicopters and your wife. She is pretty(SMILE).

dajatu I bent my heat sink just a little so it would sit tighter against the motor. I used a small amount of epoxy glue on the heat sink corners and a wire tie to help hold it tight against the motor. Make sure have a antenna wire on your heli's main board. I heard there are some helis that did not have this wire and had to solder one on there board. Full Throttle & Blue Sky's Brotha...TBT

I will try that. Could you post or send a photo closeup of the swash and the linkages connecting the blades and counter weight. I cannot find a good picture and I think I may have something backwards. There is a little arm with two balls on it and it will go on two ways. One end is longer than the other. Also how do you tell if tale rear motor needs replacing other than it dos not run at all? it seems to not be holding as it should. Thanks for your help.

1313neoos: Seems like every time I upgraded my battery from 850 to 1000mah the stock main motor went bad much faster. I also had 3 brand new 1000mah batteries not hold a charge after 3 flights. I have not tried the MJX-F45 main motor with a 1000 mah battery at this time to see if it would last or any other lipos. Anyone else want to weigh in on this subject?
