Since it’s release, the Sonic movie has been a surprise ray of sunshine in an otherwise bleak year, with the blue blur charming fans and non-fans alike. While there was at first trepidation in regards to the movie with fans outraged at the initial design for the character- who sported small eyes and weird human features- the movie ended up being a smash hit after these wrongs were righted. The movie has been massively popular since it’s release and it has continued to be one of the highest streamed movies of the year ever since it’s February release. Unsurprisingly, a sequel was quickly confirmed and with mid credit scenes teasing potential storylines (spoiler alert) with Dr Robotnik marooned on the Mushroom Planet as well as a quick glimpse of Sonic’s loyal ally Tails making an appearance in Montana.
In this video, we will focus on the latter and what Tails’ reveal will mean for the sequel and how he will fit in. We look at some of the theories, hints and comments made from the writers themselves as to what to expect for the two tailed fox- including parallels to the MCU, possible voice actors to play the part and how Tails could expand the Sonic Universe. So put on your best running shoes and get ready to dash through the world of Sonic!

Jim Carrey's portrayal of the iconic villain won fans' hearts over. With his official name being Dr. Ivo Robotnik before getting the Eggman moniker, his humorous take on the character is one thing from the movie that should return in the sequel.

Agreed, Dr robotnik is an awesome character, but in my opinion, if robotnik does come back in the sequel, that would be kind of weird and unnecessary. He went mental on a planet which doesn't have any kind of technology of any kind, plus it was perceived by the audience members that he is on the planet now for decades. If he comes back, how??? How does he escape a place that doesn't have any technology, and no people. Yeah, the writers can say " he accidentally grabbed a ring when he fell into the other galaxy, but why did he wait SOOOO long to use the ring? And even if he didn't know he had it, how?? He must've taken off his clothes at some point to bathe. Idk if Dr. Robotnik does come back, the writers must have a really good way that he comes back in.

I think Tails would stick with O'Shauna, because she played everyone's favorite Two-Tailed Fox, perfectly. As to what might happen in the Sequel, Tails might also stay on Earth with Sonic, Tom and Maddie. They might also visit Mobius more frequently, just to treat some possible home sickness and to visit Longclaw, if she makes an appearance.

I hope that when Shadow appears in the 3rd or 4th film that his portrayal is the Character from Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic 06. Both interpretations were fantastic.

I think a good voice actor for tails would be James Arnold Taylor, hes pretty high profile, he voices ratchet in every game from going commando I believe, and voices obi wan in the clone wars cartoon, I think he wouldve made a good voice forsonic too

I think that a great actor for (Adult) Tails would have to be James Maslow just like how SteveGreeneComedy (in More Annoying Orange voice) would make a great Sonic, that way he’ll be known as not only the guy that played Axel Chains in the formerly popular (2011 - 12/early 2010s) and Dino Yacht Club in Animonster, he and Maslow would also be known as a Frigid Fire duo as the Vega Bros. (Luis and Isaac) and Sonic & Tails!

I'm hoping we get a live-action Mega Man adaptation and then he and Sonic will crossover, just like in the Worlds Collide Archie comics. Imagine it! Sonic and Mega Man in Super forms, Eggman and Dr. Wily working together, the multiverse-altering Genesis Wave, and more! If they're gonna make it like more the MCU, with alternate universes and characters crossing over and working together, then I think that'd make it on par with Avengers. If it's done right, of course.

I agree. I don't know if it will happen in Sonic 2: The Movie but if Robotnik has one of Sonic's quills, I hope he'll build Metal Sonic. Imagine that, Sonic vs. Metal Sonic on the big screen. That would be "way past cool!"

@RICARDO LABOY I mean obviously Tom and Maddie are gonna be in it, they have to add them. I think paramount will add knuckles in the second movie just cuz he's one of the biggest charecters. And I think paramount will make metal sonic the rival in the 3rd movie, so it has a sort of a "bossfight", but they're gonna tease metal sonic in the 2nd movie But then again you never really know. I just really hope that they don't ruin the sequels

I’ve heard some people say that some sources say Amy was said to be in the sequel, as well as the chaos emeralds and super sonic (the latter two originally being scrapped from the first move. Perhaps you could do this type of video for other characters?

jim carrie is a marvilous character actor that can bring to live just about anything, iv seen him play the grinch, and i know he's got the skill and charisma to pull off the best version of dr robotnik we've ever seen, long as the sequils script can hold to a decent standard, i dont want my man carry to take a doomed role after all, much as i love sonic and hope for his succes in future.

I was thinking: If Sonic was sent to Earth when he was like what, five (He's fifteen, movie takes place ten years after being sent to Earth), then how did Tails know him? Either Tails was searching for him, this is a time travel story, or it'll just end up being a plot hole.

What if the echidna tribe sent Tails to look for Sonic, and Knuckles is the leader of the tribe and was the person who told Tails what to do? I can see some scenes of Tails talking to an unknown person on his communicator, and soon giving him to the echidna tribe when they go back to Green Hill.

*THEORY* Maybe at the end of the movie, it wasn’t taken in that present time. Maybe...it was taken a little farther into the future where Eggman had the time to create something to bring him back to his home world, because he did say “I’ll be home by Christmas,”holding up one of his quills, also he was in Mushroom Land maybe referring to *Mushroom Hill Zone in the Adventures of Sonic and Knuckles* so maybe he will meet Knuckles and they will team up to destroy Sonic. But this leaves to question, why is Tails showing up in Montana? I think that Tails maybe showed up because Longclaw knew about Eggman and knew he was after Sonic(who knows how?) Then Longclaw goes to warn Tails about Dr. Robotnick, and sends Tails where Sonic is. Maybe Longclaw knew Tails personally so that’s why she sent him. Now when he arrives that’s when this line comes in to play “There he is, I found him, I just hope I’m not to late!” He means he hopes he’s not to late to warn Sonic before Eggman and Knuckles finds him, and that’s when Sonic and Tails meet! *If this actually happens which it probably won’t..I would be so surprised*

Honestly, I hope they keep at least tail’s voice actress because I feel like that’s the BEST fit for Tails. Knuckles, Amy, Shadow though, those guys I can see being replaced, but I guess since she does do an Amazing job with tails and if they work with her, she might be a big and central character if they give her a chance. We’ll have to wait and see I guess

I want to see Amy in the sequel. Why? Simple. Sonic needs a love interest. Sonic x Amy for the win. Okay maybe not “need” but it’s fun to have the idea in the think tank regardless. Besides, Amy is one of my favorite characters so of course I want to see her in the sequel.

Jim Carrey's portrayal of the iconic villain won fans' hearts over. With his official name being Dr. Ivo Robotnik before getting the Eggman moniker, his humorous take on the character is one thing from the movie that should return in the sequel.

It could be a possibility if Amy Rose is in the sequel, same goes with Metal Sonic as well too. I mean yeah, the Sonic 2 game does come first after Sonic CD & then Sonic 3 and Knuckles in chronological order TBH.

Jim Carrey is awesome, I think his enthusiasm towards his character is great. Although a fat suit maybe similar to the grinch he played a few years back. But I would certainly love to see it, and encourage the team for making this movie

Hey @ScreenRant Tails’s flight actually originated in Sonic 2 if Tails got too far off screen he gets back on screen via flight it’s just that it can’t be done on command until Sonic 3
