Tainted Waters: Eastern Oregon's contaminated water crisis

Thousands of Oregonians in Umatilla and north Morrow counties rely on private wells for drinking water, tapping into a massive underground aquifer. But pollution has steadily contaminated that groundwater source in recent decades, turning what was once safe water into a potentially toxic supply.

A large share of those impacted are low-income people. Many do not speak English. They may not have political power, but they share a belief that the water has made them sick - even if they can't prove it.
KGW's The Story traveled to eastern Oregon to speak with residents and learn more about the problem. Here are all four parts of the series that came about as a result, "Tainted Waters."

Fantastic reporting. What a mess of a problem. Our taxes are way too high to have all these studies and have the problem get worse over time.

This documentary must be required viewing in all K-12 for a minimum of thirty years plus additional years that the violations continue.

Between 1962 and 1969, chemical weapons were received and stored at the depot; and from 1996 to 2012, under the name Umatilla Chemical Agent Disposal Facility, the depot was the site of the destruction of those weapons. There are many moving parts in that area and across the river.

Have they tried filtering with activated charcoal if not advanced filtration? Some of this problem is leftover from the homesteading days and the industrialization of agriculture. How many farms are too large, too much monoculture, and too much much artificiality?

first problem is forming communities, they never solve anything, just waste money pushing the problem down the road they've known for 30 years plus and studying the problem still. the farmers need to start farming regenerative agriculture.
