In April 2019 I left Belgium and started a big motorcycle adventure around the world. My plan is: take no highways, ride off-road when possible, wild camp and stay with the locals as much as you can and try to rock climb in every country.

TAJIKISTAN
If you like big mountains, steep valleys wild rivers with awesome off road tracks, remote mountain villages and glacial lakes, then Tajikistan should be definitely on your bucket list!
The whole country is full of +7000 meter mountains, icy cold glacial lakes, dusty but very spectacular dirt tracks and off course PAMIR HIGHWAY. The second highest "highway" in the world and absolutely surreal to experience. Not your convenient highway with 4 lanes, mid section and superb bitumen but more likely mud slide affected, put hole infested, river crossed, gravel-dirt-off-road-track. Absolutely crazy that big trucks drive there daily.
Wondering what the Anzob tunnel or Tunnel of Death is? It is 5 kilometer of dark, dusty puthole-dodging tunnel mayhem.
Further along the Pamir highway I'm riding on the border with Afghanistan and Tajikistan, avoiding land mines and picking up AK47 gun shells like they are shells on the beach.

Yes, the anzob tunnel (aka death tunnel) is no longer the experience it once was. I recommend for others who are going this way, avoid the tunnel and take the anzob pass to the north. It goes over the mountain (3372m) rather than under it, quite a spectacular road with amazing views towards the pamirs. Much more interesting than the tunnel and it's only a short detour.

It looks like the Anzob tunnel has been vastly improved in recent years. If you look at older videos, there's water flooding in from the ceiling, huge water filled holes in the roadway, and construction work underway mid tunnel.

It might have been improved but it is still in pretty bad shape. Luckily for me, there were no construir works going on and it was relatively dry those days. I can only imagine how terrible it must be back then 🤯

Hi, nice video! Could you help me by answering few questions. I planning to visit Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan on Honda Monkey (yes, not the right bike). My range is 175km and has limited carry capability. Would I need to carry extra fuel or there is enough fuel station or locals that would sell fuel? And would I able to travel without camping? I speak little bit Russian and don’t mind knocking someone’s door and asking for help 🙂 Thank you in advance!
