I wasn't told anything about it until 16 years later when my obscenely abusive government appointed adoptive family decided that I was "ready" for it. What I have had to endure is terrible. What's interesting to me is that she considers herself Japanese, which is perfectly fine and in her right but considering the history between the Okinawans and Japanese... Okinawa was an independent country, but were invaded in the 1600s and have been treated poorly by the Japanese even up to this day. They became a part of Japan in 1975 after that long period. They have a lot of struggles akin to native peoples in other places. I also wonder if she speaks the Okinawan language as well as Japanese and English

Ppls perceptions are weird to me sometimes. She's soft spoken and appears polite because it's a cultural thing it has nothing to do with her character. Some ppl are easily fooled by what they think they see. Most ppl don't really speak from their heart so it's best to not take ppl for who they might be based on appearances. That being said, I agree that it's awful that she was bullied so hard in America. That too is a cultural thing. It can stop if ppl want it to stop. Respect goes a long way ❤

I wonder if she was living in America when she was in elementary/ middle school or was it during her highschool years. Cause I think bullying can be brutal the most during middle and late elementary years no matter where you are cause middle schoolers are buttholes cause their hormones are wild. And perhaps she made the generalization because of that. Usually ppl tend to mellow out in highschool. It can still be brutal but it really depends on the school environment and how teachers and admin set the tone.
