I am fascinated by Japan! I visited Japan twice and also China. I am always amazed at how Westerners do not differentiate between China and Japan. Japan is special because of the way it developed and knew how to cut itself off from western influences in certain parts of its past. I noticed that the Japanese national pride is reawakening among the young in the face of geopolitical changes. I'm addicted to Japan's onsen culture, I wish the West would learn from it.

We visited in 1999, stayed at a beautiful ryokan, felt that we had to return in 2002 and met the same woman working in her garden the second time. Her chiba dog ran up to us to say hello, as if we had been neighbors all along. A magical place!

The traditional Japanese Architecture is amazing and looks extremely comfortable for hot and humid climates. Besides lots of video I actually visited some homes (supposed) according to Japanese traditional construction techniques found in Brazil and one in the USA. I never visited Japan. I wander how they survive harsh Winter found in many places in Japan in a such traditional homes. It really is a mystery for me.
