I own a very similar knife, sold as a Japanese Peasant knife, although mine has a steel housing for the blade rather than brass. It's beauty is in its simplicity and the fact that the blade steel is very good quality - it sharpens easily and holds a good edge. A fine pocket knife for many day-to-day tasks. Thank you for posting this video.

Ohhh nice! It took me a whole day of deciding whether getting the stainless steel variant or this one, xD. Somehow I liked the brass more. But it was tough desicion :D So happy to hear someone also enjoys such beauty :-)

How ironic, while I watch this video I am playing with my own Higonokami that looks very similar.

:D Its a wonderful piece to play with! wondering if the blade comes out easier the more it gets used, mine is now still pretty stiff.

I don't think I can rely on this, a standard us military knife is far better

Definitely agree on that! Or smth like a swiss knife :-) Tho this one has a nice design

@@justdothang I think if you make a price Tag to reliability chart 📊 you will see how military grade knifes are top tier, but if style is a factor that matters it becomes something personal

Such an exaggeration. Nothing about this knife is impressive. The steel is not impressive. The build quality is not impressive. The design is not impressive. This is just a sub par knife thats stuck in the past and refuses to adapt to better engineering. Thing is basically glued shut between that horrible pin. If you tried to use this knife to do any thing other than open letters it would break at the fulcrum and if you left this in a drawer for a year or two it would rust.
@justdothang20 күн бұрын
The rusting part is actually something I wierdly like about it. It requires me to take proper care of it and I just enjoy the process.

@justdothang I dont see the point in putting time and effort into making a bad tool usable. If im building a house im not gonna find a bunch of rocks to drive nails im gonna go get a hammer. I will happily maintain the hammer or axe that actually does the job efficiently.

What if we take this to the world of cars? Why do people drive old veterans that are probably way less efficient as the modern cars and even more dangerous to drive because of lack of safety tech?
@DeathmetalPersian19 күн бұрын
@justdothang I think they offer something other vehicles dont. I also think that they are complex machines made by engineers who put thought into it. the core design of this style knife is dysfunctioal. its just half a sheath around a fulcrum thats badly pinned. yes, people like old cars, but they dont fix them with stone age tools just to feel special and unique. if you get medical treatment would you want them to use 18th century medicine? ofc not.
