Come and take a ride on Melbourne's newest tram route, the 58 which runs from West Coburg in Melbourne's North through West Brunswick, Royal Park, William St City and through the affluent suburbs of South Yarra and Toorak. Tram 58 was formed in may 2017 from combining routes 55 and 8. Individually, routes 55 and 8 actually date back to the 1920s.
The video runs for around 1 hour and 10 minutes and the actual tram route is one of the longer journeys in Melbourne at 18km. Sit back and enjoy this ride on Melbourne tram route 58 - Have a great weekend and Easter - Brenden S.

Nice Video of Melbournes trams👍 It is good that Melbourne keep there trams as a part of city life. I lived from 1964 to 1982 in Melbourne and as a kid i liked the trams and now about 40 years later i can see with the help of KZfaq the tram routes in Melbourne although l lived in the little City of Coburg in germany.

This one of my two local tram routes and is a lovely trip if you have time . A lot of variety of suburbs and the section through Royal Park is really special. Car drivers always try and zoom ahead of the trams and sometimes leave it a bit close with the parked cars getting in the way!

Thanks Brendan. Watching this video is a great way to spend a rainy afternoon. I have only used the 58 to get to Vi Markets from the CBD, where I am usually staying. Next time I get down to Melbourne, I must go along for the full journey. It's a great way to visit the 'burbs 😊 Oh, it's good to see that some blow level trams run this route, I find the steep steps rather hard on the older trams these days.

How did YT know to recommend this to me? I grew up in West Coburg, one block from Melville Road along which this tram runs. It passes several churches in West Brunswick where I attended various life events, and the site of my aunt's home, now demolished. Coburg and Brunswick have become very gentrified, but this is not obvious from the video. For 4 years from 1964 to 1967, I used this tram to get to my school in North Melbourne, now closed. I always loved travelling through Royal Park on the way to the city.

Excellent video as always Brenden of a tram route I used often upon my first arrival in Melbourne in 1972. Brought a tear to my eye when we crossed the junction of Chapel and Toorak to see that the pub I have fond memories of (South Yarra Arms on the right) is no longer there. Similarly, when we approached Williams Road traffic lights to see the old apartment block where my mates and I used to live, still there on the left. Great times when we were young, and, with a bit of luck, I'll be able to return before I'm much older and buy you a pint or three at a salubrious venue of your choice!! I'm sure there are plenty of watering holes that have replaced the above. Wish you well and keep up the good work.

Great video, thanks for the journey, I like the "W", "Z" and "B2" class trams, don't care much for the newer ones. Nothing like a decent tram ride when in Melbourne, the trams make the city. Good history info on screen too, learnt a bit from them. The "B2" also had a very quick take off speed too, no mucking about. Couldn't get through the whole video as the advert interruptions started to drive me up the wall. Excellent effort Brenden and much appreciated.

Brendan, I have watched European tram videos and have noticed that some of them have extended single articulated trams (B2 types) by adding a low floor mid section. Has that been looked at in Melbourne as I think it would be a good way to add capacity? The B2's are being refurbished are they not.

Hi Brendan, Thanks for the video. I really enjoy all your videos. As a South Yarra resident, I elected to receive email updates relating to the construction of Anzac Station. My recollection is that the original intention was to restore tram services along Domain Road and Park Street, however the government agreed to a request from Stonnington Council that the change be permanent. I believe that the reason that the rails are still there construction site is accessed from Domain Rd. I think that the tracks will be removed once access 5to the work site is no longer required.

Many overseas watchers have the same question. It happens but not as much as it used to. Tram stops like this are either slowly being removed, moved to a safer location or replaced with a platform stop. When it happens, it's normally quite serious with the pedestrian coming off second best!

You could do with some cushioning for your camera to eliminate the vertical shake. I use a set of "tripod shoes" which I made myself. They're basically a box(which contained light bulbs) stuffed with foam, a hole cut on one side with a cap from a bottle or jar for the foot of the tripod to rest on. Make up 3 and sit your tripod on them, they work a treat.

Otherwise make them travel on these stupid ancient cold slow fucking trams that are supposed to be the biggest Melbourne trademark of all time. Fuck me! Ding, Ding.

@@Schony747 Ok. That makes sense. Another question. Is this an issue for drivers and what happens when the tram just sits idle in the middle of the road waiting for the driver to get back. Don't get me wrong, I can imagine what can happen, but I would like to know from case studies of what issues have occurred in the past when this happened. I'm just curious as this is not something that is generally talked about. The same issue can happen in a bus, but at least the bus has more flexibility in its movements and so is able to park somewhere. A tram can't.
