wouldn't last in St Louis either somebody would just hook up logging chain or cable around it and drag it down the street with a 1 ton pickup truck around the corner and down an alley where they would just disassemble the whole thing that money would be gone in less than 12 hours there just be a hole in the concrete where it used to be the next morning..... they put a real big bronze plaque in St Louis it was bolted to a rock it was on the news about this plaque the next day it was gone somebody drilled out the rivets and stole the whole 300 lb piece of bronze for scrap

The case did not contain $3 million. In actuality, it held only $500 in Canadian currency. The rest was fake. Presumably, if someone had broken the case open they would have received their prize through some other more secure method, such as a check. The glass itself was not bulletproof. It had a film applied to it to strengthen it. 3M does not claim that Scotchshield makes glass bullet proof. Instead, it is designed to make glass more shatter resistant so there is less risk of injury from flying shards of glass. The case was never just sitting in the open waiting for anyone who passed by to break it open. It was set up for one day and was carefully protected by security guards. The stunt was actually remarkably cheap for 3M to pull off compared to all of the attention that it still seems to gather. In addition to the fact that only $500 was actually in the case, other expenses were probably minimal as well, such as a one-day rental of the poster box and a team of security personnel. While passersby were allowed to do some crazy things in their attempts to break the glass - such as getting a running start to kick the case and taking a sledgehammer to it - it wasn’t exactly a free-for-all. When the aluminum frame around the poster began to give way the security guards called a halt to the challenge. After all, it had to be the glass which broke rather than the frame around it.

The glass money thing isn't really that real as they make it seem in this video. There was actually only €300 - €500 in that glass case, and the rest was fake money. There were guards surrounding the thing in case anyone broke it. They gave people sledge hammers too. But in the span of 24 hours they had to take it down because the outside frame was breaking.

It was a highly regulated event with armed guards. They allowed use of a sledge hammer or a baseball bat. The event lasted a day before it was called off because someone almost broke the thing down with the sledge hammer. It is now illegal to take the money (hence the security camera). Also it's only 500$ real money with loads of fakes.

they should have put that safe in Russia. It would be opened within a day. I have a railway track near my home. Hammer and a knife for the film. Really crazy how it lasted so long, but I also worked in the security film/glass industry. The frame is also a weak point, I saw the aftermath of a truck driving in to a building, the window frame broke but the Bondkap and security film remained intact.

Any homeless guy knows that he is surrounded by food. The shops are full of food. The problem is that this food is produced to be sold, not to be eaten directly. You can't buy it? Then you won't get it, no matter how much you're starving. You have money? Then you can eat, no matter where you are in this world, even if you're in a poor country. Those oranges in the display has been bought. If they had not been bought, they would not have been given for free to some starving people. Usually, food producers prefer to destroy their overstock, which they sometimes do, rather than giving it away for free. Because giving away free food is the opposite of what they're trying to do: to earn money. It has never been easier to produce food. The productivity is higher than it has ever been before. Probably 100 times higher than it was a couple of centuries ago. So producing food is not an issue. The problem is that we do it to make money. We don't do it just to eat the food. During the first 99% of mankind's history, food was produced to be eaten, not to be sold. So when food was there, people were not starving. People were starving only when not enough food could be produced. Today, when food is there, when you are surrounded by food, you can still be starving if you don't have enough money to buy it. And food is always there. Always. A natural disaster destroyed all crops where I live? Who cares? In the shops around me, I can find tomatoes from Spain, avocados from Peru, pineapples from Kenya, fish from Norway, beef from the Netherlands, etc. I don't care if the crops around me has been destroyed. I won't even notice it. Enough food is produced for everybody. And we could easily produce much more, and would, if we could sell it. But if we produced food in order to eat it, rather than sell it, then everybody could eat well enough as long as we can produce what is needed. And of course, with the efficiency of today's methods, we could produce what is needed. Thinking that we should not waste food because of starving people only reinforces the problem. If you want to solve a problem, then find its cause. Its real cause, not an imagined caused that was valid centuries ago but is not anymore.
