The decision from Beyoncé to perform this song, instead of her own songs, shows how great and what an amazing artist she is. What I realised from some comments of people who didn't like this performance is that people will never be 100% happy. It's not good when she's sexy, it's not good when she's calm like this... There is always someone who doesn't like something, so why even bother understanding people anymore. Beyoncé will continue to inspire us who wanna be inspired by her. Can't wait to see what she does next! LOVE FROM CROATIA, you are a Queen! :)
@CHEETAH699 жыл бұрын
excellent point. I read comments all day about her being too sexual and needing to "cover up." But she does a complete 180 and folks are talking about "what is she doing singing gospel?" She literally can't win. That's why I hope she's just doing what SHE wants and what makes HER happy.
@notynoty75269 жыл бұрын
This has nothing to do with Beyonce being amazing. This is not a calm performance; she is still trying to be sexy. Beyonce asked John and Common to allow her to perform. She attached herself to this performance because she know all the hype around the movie and song, and wanted to get in on the good.
@CHEETAH699 жыл бұрын
NotyNoty where do you see "sexy?" Please. You're the type who will only always see bad when it comes to Beyonce. Here you are attaching all sorts of motivations and intentions on a person you don't even know. For as big as the movie is it ain't breaking box office records. It got just two Oscar noms and most folks still don't know the name of the lead characters. So basically, however big the movie is, Beyonce is still bigger. What would she gain by attaching herself to the film? Maybe the chick gives a damn about stuff that affects her people.
@greenlight3739 жыл бұрын
Lol! And I assume she called you and told you that, right? ;) This is an amazing performance, I heard the original and Bey was as good. She did it in her way - you either like it or you don't, but if 2nd is the case, don't waste your time here :)

I don't understand how you couldn't love her performance. Not only did she look and sound incredible, but the meaning behind her performance was also so intense and inspiring. She was using her wonderful voice to shed light upon an issue that is going on in America, and that's so beautiful to me.
@solargeknowles43549 жыл бұрын
The song and its meaning is so much deeper than the performer. So for all those pissed about Ledisi not performing need to realize that this song wasn't going to be performed by anyone AT ALL. Beyonce wanted to pay tribute to the film and King's legacy, you know it being BLACK HISTORY MONTH and all. I applaud Beyonce for choosing to intro Glory with this song from the movie. She could've easily performed her own song, but she saw any opportunity to be apart of something much deeper than her or Ledisi.
@ArchieGe9 жыл бұрын
LOL You are just using Ledisi's words as if they are your own. And you're trying to make it look like it doesn't matter Beyonce didn't have the Dignity to tell the Grammy producers that Ledisi should sing the song. Bey can $ing but Ledisi SANG that sung.
@solargeknowles43549 жыл бұрын
***** BEYONCE IS THE ONE WHO WANTED TO PERFORM IT!!! The fuck? Again I say the performance of this song wasn't going to happen. Bey made it happen, she wanted her performance to transcend herself. Hence the fucking video you posting under now. How can you misconstrue the intentions of this song being performed to Beyonce taking shine from Ledisi. Cause the people who love Ledisi see her shine through and through. What did Beyonce take away from her?? Ledisi was never going to perform this song from the jump.
@ArchieGe9 жыл бұрын
So what ? Who cares what she wants. Out of respect and dignity for a fellow artist, Ledisi, who performed the song in the Selma Movie playing Mahalia Jackson it was not Bey's place to $ing the song. Simple as that..... What's with the Caps ? Should i be impressed ? Michael Vick "The performance slot was not for Beyoncé to give up to Ledisi." Did she even try ?
@hope4me8479 жыл бұрын
"The song and its meaning is so much deeper than the performer." There has never been a truer statement about this song than last night's performance. The true meaning of the song was not conveyed. If it were, we would not be discussing who should have sung this song today.
@anpdm19 жыл бұрын
***** Bey singing Precious Lord or as Bey puts it "law-owed" was one of the most uninspiring renditions done by an African American singer to date. Anybody can sing a gospel song but not everyone can make it a spiritual. She says she was singing that song in reference to the struggles of her father and grandfather. That was nice and if they had sung it "the struggle' would have been evident and rung through as truth in spirit. The struggle is real or it's not; the emotions attached to that is real or it's not. Black church choirs are full of great singers but it's only those that can invoke the spirit that get to lead. Bey was simply out of her league in that regard.
@ShataiyaJai9 жыл бұрын
It's shame that most of you are talking about how "boring" the performance was or how "Ledisi was robbed" all while completely ignoring the message of the song and these men speaking on how they're viewed by society. You all are so lazy when it comes to focusing on things that truly matter.

Beyoncé is the perfect example of "sometimes you gotta be quiet and let God handle them". Notice how Beyoncé has continued to stay humble, keep God first which she's said several times and let her haters hate. Sometimes your best answer is none, every evil that is spoken against Beyoncé she just continues to be blessed. That's not the devil on God can provide a clear peace of mind and stability. Til this day she isn't falling out of clubs on drugs like 80% of her peers who she's started out with. Y'all can continue to hate but remember the karma is always watching.
@WheeJones7 жыл бұрын
when has she recently said she keeps God first?
@drlight7777 жыл бұрын
Hey Kinggg, no hatred here, just wondering what "god" Beyonce is 'keeping first'? How do you measure blessedness? By popularity? Music sales? Concert revenues? BTW, there is no such thing as 'karma.' But there is a Living God Who bore our sins in His body on the tree, and rose from the dead, that we might be forgiven. We will have to deal with Him soon.

Beyoncés last interview was in 2013 for her life is but a dream in which she says several times she knows God is real blah blah blah, she said it at the 2013 super bowl, she says it all the time at concerts idk what actions you want her to prove that she's holy but please get off your high horse. Even people who claimed to be as holy as they were I e Whitney was filled with there on demons. I don't have to question what God Beyoncé serves because I know theirs only one God, being a lover a God isn't about preaching the bible it's not about screaming from every roof top I LOVE GOD. Cause those people usually the ones sinning the most tbh. Beyoncé til this day attributes God for all her success and all her failures, it's that Beyoncé doesn't walk around pretending to be self righteous which is the problem
@brandivosmith7 жыл бұрын
Actually no, I'm not attributing it to success at all in ways yes but more than that, beyonce didn't get to where she is by anybody's devil she got to where she is by keeping GOD first and minding her damn business. People have continued to talk and she's stayed above the fray. When I say blessings I mean the $200,000 her and jayz gave to kids after school here in Brooklyn with no press no publicity, the program has allowed after school funding for schools in Brooklyn in effort to keep kids out the street. Stuff like that no press no interviews no bs, is why I say she's blessed, she doesn't allow y'all to be her judge HER ACTIONS prove that.

That was absolutely beautiful. I feel people are just so hell bent on Beyonce, the Flawless singer, that when she strips down and sings her roots you thrown off. He sang the song beautiful and soulfully. She did a great job. This woman is human and as humans we have many different sides. We're not one dimensional. So yea she may like to pop it and drop it but she also knows who God is. So much respect to Beyonce.
@greenlight88199 жыл бұрын
qbbowles Then why did she have to step over another singer to get this moment? She's not a flawless singer, this performance had them. She was unmoving and unemotional. You can't bring praise to God when your intentions to do this were bad. She has no soul. She gonna get hers eventually.

Half of you convenient critics didn't even know who Ledisi was prior to this performance and the movie. Black people was up there SANGIN' and shifting awareness to an critically important topic but all you saw was Beyonce "stealing someone's moment". This perpetually covert I hate Beyonce act is tired outdated and unwarranted. She has proven herself time and time again as an irrefutable force within the entertainment realm. The lack of respect she receives from her own people is absolutely disgusting. The same ones berating her historic achievements as a black female artist will be the same hypocrites raining her praise and referencing her feats when she's dead and gone. Had you idiots fixated your attention towards the performances and what they were referencing to, the victims of racial injustice would've received headlining attention this morning instead of this petty shit. So congrats, you STOLE their moment.

Girl take your tired ass back to the Beyhive. You stans are ridiculous. Idolizing and worshipping a woman who wipes her ass with her hand just like you do. Beyonce isn't a feminist or empowering because if she was then she wouldn't have STOLEN this moment from Ledisi who was in the movie Selma and on the soundtrack. Beyonce had nothing to do with either. This half ass baked "documentary" and tired shit about how her mother sang her the song so she is entitled to sing it fell flat. The fact that Beyonce even released this video trying to explain and give some sort of relevance to pulling a shady ass move is ridiculous. She put out this video to calm down people who are calling her out for her bullshit. After Jennifer Hudson outshined her in Dream girl, Beyonce has been determined not to have any black woman have any glory. And John Legend and Common proved what a bunch of punks they are for not standing up for Ledisi. Just goes to show that all skin folk aren't kin folk.

I came back to this performance today. What a wonderful performance and message by Beyoncé. People ignored the fact that Ledisi never asked to perform this song before John Legend and Common performed Glory, and John and Common never asked Ledisi to do it, either. They performed Glory on more than one award show. The song would've never been performed at the Grammys had Beyoncé never thought up the idea. I swear the crap a successful, black woman has to put up with. I'm glad Beyoncé is so strong and hope she feels the love so many have for her. We understand her struggle.

Everyone who said they don't like her singing songs like this simply don't know Beyonce then. That's what she grew up on. This is her roots. And with everything that happened last year, when she was asked to be apart of the Selma tribute, of coursed she accepted and she did a beautiful job. That's what's wrong with the music industry today, don't nobody wanna hear real music anymore, they just wanna hear stuff they can turn up to, smh!!

Sad how we've finally come to the point where powerful people promote love and purity, and some people still choose to question Bey's motives behind performing this song, or how she performed it. I, for once, have come to an understanding that it doesn't matter. Comment sections, tabloids, social media - cynics, curmudgeons and haters will always be there. But it doesn't matter. What matters is the individual meaning and interpretation of music like this, and what we feel when we hear it. It is incredibly important that this music exists in times like these.

One things is for certain though, there will be a LOT of people curious as all get out to hear Ledisi sing now! I recently found out that her concert is available, and I am certainly going to see her perform! I can hardly wait!! So this 'exposure' albeit through controversy has really put Ledisi's name on the lips of many, and for those that didn't know, now does!! She is on her way!! I love that Beyonce did this song and did it for the right reasons. People see her singing and all they can think of is Ledisi. When what they should be thinking of is what the song is about and know that people sing and love songs for different reasons because the meaning is unique to us all. This song doesn't belong to any one person and I love Beyonce's version, vision and purpose for singing it. We need to heal and we need God to take our hand. Like the gentleman said don't ignore it but face it, then maybe we can conquer it.

Would you be okay if the devil was quoting scripture in the pulpit? Compassion and justice are two of many qualities that the Lord has shown to us. So, my question is where is your compassion for Ledisi. Where is the Justice in what Beyonce did. The fact that she made a pre-empted video explaining herself speaks volumes to where her heart was. Pharell did non-such and was so moved to give God the glory on the stage and left it like that. I have so much more respect for him. Matthew 7:1-5 on Righteous Judgement. Means we need to have a keen eye when we see wrong being painted as right.

Often times the devil is in the pulpit. But she was not in a pulpit my friend; but on a stage and she is not quoting scripture but singing a song that has meaning to her. Matthew 7:1-3 King James Version (KJV) 1 Judge not, that ye be not judged. 2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. 3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?

Oh and she paraphrases scripture. However, as God's children, although we must be cautious in our judgments concerning ourselves and others, we cannot ignore our Lord's commands that instruct us to make judgments. In John 7:24, Jesus said "Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment" (emphasis mine: JH) Here we are clearly commanded to judge with righteous judgment. If we take the view that judging is completely and totally forbidden, then that would make the doctrinal and moral purity of the church impossible to maintain. This would violate other teachings and divine examples that Christ has revealed in His word (see: Matthew 7:15; John 5:30; 7:24). It would commit us to neutrality and that is the very opposite of the stance Christ wants us to take.

is it coincidence that this was her last big televised performance and exactly a year after that she came back with formation followed by the superbowl performance paying tribute to TBP?

this bitch sang the fuck out of this song. she sounded better here tho than on the grammys, maybe her nerves kicked in on stage. nevertheless what a voice!!
@TerrellAmari9 жыл бұрын
I think so too, I think she was nervous you could tell... She still sounded great, but she sounds much better here though. I think with all the haters that was saying she shouldn't be doing this song.... It might have been in the back of her mind

Terrell060 yup that could be one of the reasons. and maybe her mood was ruined after she was robbed for AOTY. screw the grammys

I was thinking that tonight. For as awesome as Beyonce is on stage, I'm sure she still gets nervous. Also, I'm sure she heard about all the hate she was getting on the internet. Couple that with probably her uneasiness with singing a song out of her comfort zone and I'm sure she was pretty nervous. But the next day at that Stevie Wonder tribute though...

At first this pissed me off. I thought she was trying to broach the topic of racism. So I was annoyed she was so prominently featured.I thought it was self aggrandising and tasteless. But she is simply explaining her grammy performance and what i meant to her and and the 12 men standing with her. It's an explanation of the performance, hence the title the voices.
