It's been a busy year full of non-stop work, long hours, successes, and failures. Now that we have picked up the final pieces of damage from the storm, it is time to step away and call it quits.

We are a couple who are building our own home from the ground up in the mountains of West Virginia. After living near the city our entire lives we finally decided to sell it all, pack up our 3 kids and live in an RV on our 73 acres while building our own debt free, off-grid house and learning to live a more self-reliant life.

Josh & Erin, you did it! It took bringing Josh to great heights, but you did it! " Finally, you got away with the family. I get more joy watching you two have fun with your children than just about anything you do anymore. Ellie's excitement over the fish and her compassion for not disturbing the crabs home, along with the excitement a sea shell found gave your son, reminds me of the early years spent with my children eons ago. You can't get enough time with your children before they are grown and gone, just leaving you the memories of what once was.

I agree 100%,my parents never took us on vacations. My father always said we live in Florida,we don’t need to go anywhere else. All he ever did was work.

@@fw1421 yeah my family was dysfunctional but there were some good things that I am thankful for I just want to do better for the kids I do have and help people that have kids learn this lesson watching this video series I think really will teach people how to live their lives in a more basic form thanks for the reply

It is not that most parents never find the time, it is that most parents never make the time. You have all the time you need to do anything you want. How you budget that time is entirely up to you.

Your kids are growing up fast. We have three boys and they are about 5 years ahead of your kids in ages. It’s crazy how fast they grow up. Enjoy these trips with them as they become independent so quickly.

Love how you indulge your son for his love of light houses. Each one is different and deliver the same protection to those at sea. Did whole Oregon coast line and visited every one. Your family works hard and deserves the family time away of rest and fun. Making memories. Enjoy.

Problem being in the renovation house in the top most floor he had no problems, but heart was going fast and I have almost no problem with heights. :)

Nice to see Joshua overcome his fear of heights and persevere up that creaky ladder....brave guy! I do not like heights either, but did go up the Sears Building in Chicago when it was the tallest building in the world...that was over 20 years ago.

Glad you guys were able to visit and climb "Old Baldy!" As a native Carolinian who lived 2 islands up from Bald Head, you saw the beauty of the natural marsh, river and ocean. Be SURE to visit Provisions in Southport and the other local seafood joints. Good eatin! Enjoy your visit!

You guys are a beautiful family! My wife and I just returned from a trip in the smoky mountains alone without our now grown children. It was bitter sweet but we’ll always have those amazing memories of all the great vacations we took together. Watching your family enjoying each other brings a smile to my face and a tear to my eye. I love this island! We always visit when we are nearby:) So unique. No cars, and 3 different climate/wildlife zones within miles (beach, swamp, dense forest).

In June my wife and I moved from Wilmington, North Carolina to Temple, Georgia (45 minutes west of Atlanta). Wilmington is less than an hour from Bald Head Island and Wilmington also sits on the Cape fear River. Seeing Bald Head brings back a lot of good memories of when I was a teenager and use to play golf on this Island. It was a great time. So glad your family got to visit this island. It truly is a gem!

I understand Josh's fear of heights it is something difficult to cope with, I bet his legs were shaking when you reached the ground level. You will need a week to get over your holiday. You've got to "unstring the bow" every once in a while, especially when there's still some summer left. The archer's bow can't stay in tension, so it must be unstrung. Same with us, or the string and the bow will become fatigued. Just the right thing to do for your family.
