Damn insomaniac spider man was going to be brutal by looking at the early combat gameplay

Honestly i wouldnt have minded to see a more brutal arkham style spiderman game

The combat feels prett visceral, kind of like Wolverine with the closer camera and blood, feels like they just shifted towards Wolverine for that grittier style

This early footage spidey had so much more weight to him it seems. I kinda liked the more "grounded" approach, especially with the overall animations. Not that the final product is bad, not even close, just that these animations looked a lot more realistic in comparison

I agree with the decision of removing the blood. Spider-Man isn’t meant to be some bloodthirsty maniac, unless he’s wearing the black suit.

From what I can tell, some of the finishers that you would normally press 🔺+🔴 with would've actually already been done in the combat itself without you having to press those 2 buttons I mentioned earlier. Also the blood splattering effect isn't a terrible idea, but in my opinion would only make sense if he's wearing the symbiote suit. Regular Spidey isn't unhinged, so I'm glad that idea got disregarded. But I'm extremely bummed out that the TASM 1 crane move never made it into the final release. That could've easily been implemented in Marvel's Spider-Man 2, as well as the blood splatter effect only when using the symbiote suit.

The screen flicking when zipping webs was purely realistic. They should have stayed with that concept

game seemed to be a bit more mature especially in the first clip with the blood and the brutal combat

I’m thinking how can you make more Spider-Man games like this without making the other games the same. Spider-Man from Spider-Man 2 is a big leap forward. Now how can they keep this up with improving combat and swinging without making the new games feel the same or dry. Spider man 3 seems like a challenge cause now they gotta somehow make it better than 2 and 2 seems like the peak of super hero gaming

Some fight moves from early stages can be use with mods. There are some different fight and travel animations mods for PC.

I like how they cut the little weapon gadget wheel out in the first game but brought it back in the 2nd 😂😂

That's awesome. I wish Insomniac added a few things in the 1st game. Not complaining btw, the game is still amazing. I love the game, but after seeing this. I wish they could've done more like made NYC more interactive & feel real like in the 2nd game, but a LOT more. Like add extra crimes like stopping a thug who is running off with a stolen purse or bike, save someone who's about to fall off a building, save a hostage that's involved in a car chase, save a cat from a tree, help a civilian with directions like in "Homecoming". Take crimes out of District Completion like in the 2nd game, pick any crimes to stop like in "Miles Morales", wave at civilians while hanging on a wall or something like a light pole, & shoot webs at enemies while swinging. Lastly add wall run on the web swinging like the end swing in "Far From Home". Crawl on the walls a little faster like in the 2nd game. Have there be QTE's in a few cutscenes like in Uncharted 4. Give some of the villains more appearance in the story like the Electro, Vulture, Rhino, Scorpion, Tombstone, Shocker, & Hammerhead little scenes in the game. Add some of the combats, parkour, & traverals that we've seen in the early prototype & alpha. Also for the gadget wheel I would've done it exactly like the one in the 2nd game, also so you can customize your gadget wheel by choosing different gadgets, pretty much like the abilities. Done better with some of the boss battles (add 3 rounds & health bars like in the 2nd game) like Kingpin, Scorpion, Rhino, & Electro. Replayable missions like Miles Morales & Spider-Man 2. I also think they could've added more into the story that we've seen in the comic that is based on this game, E3 2016 trailer, & some that we seen in the concept art. Once again I'm not complaining or anything, I still love this game a LOT. I just think they could have done a little bit more into this spectacular game & story, but it's still perfect & I'm still grateful for what we got👌

The e3 era version is said to be a version with more content than base game

One thing I noticed, Peter uses his fists a lot more than later in the game.

Looked like potential moveset switches like more focus on follow up attacks on a single target rather than crowd control every fight, would like to see that added, bit like ghost of tsushimas sword styles. Maybe a combat style focused specially on webbing or range and then a fighting style that focuses on air combat which could add in flying enemys with more complex fighting systems

God I really like E3 2017 version of the game and the art style they went so far, it’s probably my favorite version. The color grading, more stylised UI, shiny suit, brutal strikes and more weighty animations for both combat and swinging just makes it much more realistic and filmic.

One detail I noticed that I dont see discussed more often is that the streets are crowded like in the spiderman 2

It looks like a lot of the old animations to the combat and traversal were inspired by tasm 2, the game. I'm glad the stepped away from it, and went on the more cinematic style. Suits the game much better.

The combat reminds me of Assassin's Creed 3 up to Rogue, as when Spider-Man attacks, the camera shakes like how it does in the Assassin's Creed games, and noticing how grounded it was like Batman Arkham.

This really looks like an arkham style spiderman game and i would love it if they did that too

Idk if this is how it would have worked but at 3:57 we can see the gadget in the bottom left corner which really reminds me of spider-man 2 R1 gadget wheel Maybe gadgets were meant to work like that but when they realized they wanted to add more gadgets they just created the 1st games gadget wheel and when spider-man 2 came around and they shifted focus away from gadgets a bit they brought it back

To me, the combat feels mostly the same. The added blood makes it more brutal, but many of the animations are unchanged, giving it a slightly heavier feel.

Everyone saying that the old combat system was more brutal and they should have kept it that way but I think the final version is better than this. Remember: Spider-man does not move realistic or brutal like Batman, his moves are supposed to be amazing!

They shouldve left the blood in the game i mean spiderman literally violently beats them up until they are knocked out cold. Spiderman isnt a murderer but hes definetely a violent person.

It's amazing to see what is essentially early dev footage that insomniac considered a starting point of sorts, while other spiderman games went ahead and said "yeah this is good enough" and shipped it.

You think you can find more OLD combat clips of the prototype... maybe they hid some canceled mechanics.

Ngl there's a lot stuff they should've added or should add in sm3 and I think they will considering the Web line was confirmed to Be made for SM but got added in SM 2 They should've added Peter triple kick into SM2 to switch up the combat and Enemies should've bled whenever Peter had the symbiote suit on And being able to zip through a crane should've been added like a reference to The amazing spider man

BRO. That Zoomed camera movement in web swinging during the "Wall Object Testing" portion of the video looks a bit similar to the amazing spiderman 1. I remember how much everyone had mixed feelings about it when that game was out on the 360. I wonder if that's what caused them to move it back a bit.
