I have 4 old machines. My oldest is an 1895 Singer treadle. I've done a lot of cleaning and oiling. They are so worth it. I sew with them all

Nice! She's not a 15-30, too early for that, but she's a beauty! I think she is most likely a 15-11, an early center bobbin with a 1 0'clock bobbin case. If there's anything I can do to assist, feel free to reach out. I must say, that she is one major schmoo fest! Have fun!

So pleased that your rescued this old lady. Giving some TLC to these machines and they perform just like the day they were made. I had a singer treadle which belonged to my aunty and was so upset when I came home from College to find out that it had gone missing when my parents moved home. I have been looking for another treadle machine but living in the South West end of the U.K. they are hard to find. Those that are for sale are in poor condition with missing parts and are quite expensive.

It seems like treadles were more common here, and hand cranks were there. If you can find a decent treadle cabinet, and a motorized 66, just take the motor off and put it in. Good luck!

I'm a Bob Fowler watcher too, Marie - and though he's not making vids now if you haven't watched him yet AndyTube has excellent videos too. (I don't think I've watched all of Bob's and Andy's vids yet but I'm working on it!) :-) I'm so looking forward to seeing how this little beauty here comes up. If she's sewing this well now with all that gunk and tar and schmoo clogging up her works she's going to run like the wind when you're done with her! Hmmm, royal treatment, a sphinx, great beauty and history - wouldn't remind you of any Egyptian queens would it? Two spring to my mind, of course, but I'm sure there are more. I wonder what you'll name this one?

@@susanwheeler949 Oh - what a lovely surprise. Hello there Susan, it's so lovely to meet you! Yes, "schmoo" is one of my favourite words now to describe what I find inside these old machines. No other word quite does the job as well. Another favourite I've picked up from him is the technique of "tappiology" (tappyology? - I'll have to get in touch with Merriam's to see how to spell that). It's a great technique, works like a charm. We have a similar term, but it's a phrase "percussive maintenance". :-) Have a great week!

Great video! I'm in the middle of the same project, lots of very tight screws, but I have penetrating oil and a heat gun if necessary, so far, so good, but then I got to the end here and you don't take out the main shaft!! :( My poor 15 was in such bad shape with rust and really thick tar! I have taken off all the japanning on the top, and some from underneath, but I'm going to take it all off for a more bead blasting for a complete repaint and I really need to get the main shaft out. Any suggestions for maybe another video that shows how to get it out?

I'm sorry, I do not remove the main shafts of my machines. There are just two many risks of problems that I'm not ready to deal with. I have no idea if there are videos showing removing the main shaft of a 15 out there, but good luck to you finding one. I hope your project goes really well for you.
